Chapter 756 What's the Use of Being Serious

Julian thought for a moment and said, "Alright, when I'm ready to leave, I'll let you see my dad. But you have to promise me, you can't reveal to Mommy that I'm not George these few days!"

"Deal!" Edith agreed readily. After all, she had no way to prove that this little boy wasn't George.

However, this little boy looked exactly like George. Could his dad be...

Katherine and Charles brought a lot of snacks upstairs. These snacks were bought by Bernard for them last time. Because she was afraid the kids would get cavities from eating too many snacks, she locked most of them in a cabinet to prevent the kids from sneaking them. Usually, she would give them as rewards.

Today was a special situation. Some unpleasantness had occurred among the three little ones, so letting them eat more and be happier might make them forget today's conflicts.

The next day, Katherine got up early to send the kids to kindergarten and then went straight to the office.

Just as she was about to push the door open and enter her office, the secretary stood up to report, "Ms. Galatea, a gentleman came to see you this morning. I asked him to wait in the reception room."

Katherine raised an eyebrow, "Is it Jonathan?"

The secretary shook her head, "It's not Mr. Mostow. I haven't seen him before, and I don't recognize him."

This young secretary had only been with the company for a few months and indeed didn't know some people, but she knew Jonathan. If she said it wasn't him, then it definitely wasn't.

If it wasn't Jonathan, who could it be?

Who would come to the office so early to see her?

Katherine nodded, "Alright, I got it! Make me a cup of coffee, and I'll go to the reception room in a bit."

"Yes, Ms. Galatea."

Katherine first went to her office to handle some routine tasks, then got up and went to the reception room to see who was looking for her.

Pushing the door open and entering the reception room, she didn't see anyone, just two cups of coffee on the table.

One cup was freshly brewed and still steaming.

The other cup had been drunk from, with only half left.

Where was the person?

Had they left?

Katherine looked around the reception room, confirmed there was no one, and turned to go back to her office.

Just as she turned, Sunny, who was hiding behind the door to scare her, jumped out.

Katherine wasn't scared at all but was amused by his childishness and let out a cold laugh.

Sunny, disappointed that he didn't succeed, let out a disgruntled sound and then spread his arms to give Katherine a big bear hug, "Katherine! Long time no see. You're still as amazing as ever!"

Katherine, held in Sunny's arms, didn't refuse and patted his back, "Long time no see, you're still so childish!"

Sunny hated being called childish the most, so he let go of Katherine, "I'm not childish at all in front of others, okay? You're my sister! Can't I be a little childish in front of you?"

Katherine rolled her eyes at him disdainfully, "Did I ever acknowledge you as my brother? I don't remember."

Sunny crossed his arms and sat down, "Well, like it or not, you are my sister, and nothing's going to change that!"

Katherine chuckled, "Alright, what brings you here so early?"

Sunny shrugged, "Nothing much! Didn't we agree yesterday to go to the Melville Mansion to see you and your kids? I haven't adjusted to the time difference yet. I couldn't sleep at night, and although I was tired in the morning, I knew if I slept, it would be even harder to adjust!

So I thought I'd come here early to find you, and we can pick up the kids together after you get off work. I haven't seen George and Edith in these three years!"

Katherine glanced at him, "Why are you so idle? Didn't Mr. Bernard Mitchell say he was going to assign you a position at the Mitchell Group?"

Sunny frowned, "Bernard does want to assign me to a position at the company, but I just got back to the country. I need some time to catch my breath!"

Katherine thought about it and agreed, then sat down and took a sip of her coffee, saying thoughtfully, "Speaking of which, what was up with you yesterday? Did you go looking for Ambrosia again?"

Mentioning Ambrosia, a complex expression flashed across Sunny's face. He leaned back lazily in his chair.

"I didn't go looking for her. I just happened to run into her at a business event yesterday, so we caught up a bit."

Katherine squinted her eyes, "By catching up, do you mean what I think you mean?"

In the past, Sunny would have blushed, but times had changed. He was no longer the man he was three years ago.

Sunny shrugged it off, "We're adults. How else would we catch up? Katherine, don't worry about me and her! We can take responsibility for our actions."

Katherine scrutinized Sunny, feeling that he was indeed different from before.

She sipped her coffee and said softly, "Can't you all take relationships a bit more seriously?"

Sunny replied, "Does taking it seriously guarantee a result? You took Alex seriously, and yet you're still raising the kids alone!"

Katherine's hand holding the coffee cup stiffened, and her face turned much darker.

Sunny immediately realized he had said the wrong thing and sat up straight, awkwardly saying, "Katherine, I didn't mean it that way. I wasn't saying Alex abandoned you!"

Feeling like he was only making things worse, Sunny scratched his head and said, "Maybe I should just stop talking!"

Katherine snapped out of it and smiled, "You're right! Maybe I was too serious, too focused on the outcome, and missed out on a lot of time I could have spent with him.

People should live in the moment. As long as the moment is fulfilling, that's enough!

I should learn from you guys."

Seeing Katherine smile, Sunny felt even more uneasy, sensing it was a forced smile but unable to pinpoint exactly why.

"Katherine, I really didn't mean it."

Katherine's smile was genuine, and her reflection was sincere.

She didn't feel that Alex had abandoned her, just regretted being so serious in the past, always avoiding him.

If she hadn't been so focused on the outcome, perhaps today, she would have had more moments to remember about their time together.

Now, every night, she would repeatedly recall every moment from when she and Alex met to when they parted. She would quickly run out of memories, leaving her with long, lonely nights and endless searching and waiting.

With more memories, her nights could be a bit more fulfilling.

Katherine snapped out of it, "Alright, I have a meeting to attend soon! If you have nothing to do, go shopping around the nearby mall!"
