Chapter 673 Nothing Can Go Wrong
Carl barely glanced at Sophia standing off to the side, showing zero interest in her, and then turned his attention to Katherine.
He moved the gun barrel from Katherine's chin to her pregnant belly and gave it a poke.
"Who cares about that? What matters is who that jerk Alex loves! And I'm really interested in the kid you're carrying! So, forget her, we want you! Come with us!"
He jerked his chin in a certain direction, signaling Katherine to walk over there.
With the gun pressed against her, Katherine had no choice but to go along.
Sophia shouted, "Wait! Where are you taking Katherine?"
Carl snapped back, "None of your business! Stay out of it!"
Sophia frowned, "But..."
The fat guy looked at Sophia nervously, "Boss? Are we really letting this woman go? If we do, won't she rat us out to the cops?"
Carl narrowed his eyes. "If we kidnap her, we'll just get into more trouble! She's Brent Coleman's daughter, and she knows the rules of the underworld. For her dad's sake, she won't go to the cops."
The fat guy looked at Sophia in shock and took a step back. "She's Brent's daughter?"
Carl kicked him. "What are you waiting for? Get this pregnant woman out of here!"
So, Sophia was left standing in the ruins while the two men dragged Katherine into a van and sped off.
Sophia watched the van disappear. Her tense and worried expression turned into a smug grin as she got into her car and drove away.
Later that night.
Several cars were parked in front of the Melville mansion, all belonging to the Mitchell family.
Bernard got out of the last black car and rang the doorbell himself.
If it weren't for looking for Katherine, he wouldn't have come to the Melville mansion.
Sunny was with him too.
After a brief chat with the Melville family butler through the video doorbell, the gates opened.
A servant came to greet them and led them inside.
In the main hall, only Alex's sister Fiona was waiting.
Probably because of Alex's death, the whole place felt somber.
Fiona looked rough, her voice hoarse from crying. "What are you doing here in the middle of the night? Here to mock us?"
Bernard didn't argue. He got straight to the point. "Ms. Melville, has Katherine been here?"
Fiona looked surprised. "Katherine? She hasn't been here today! What's going on with her?"
Bernard stared at her, trying to gauge if she was lying, but Fiona's innocent look seemed genuine. "She hasn't been here, and she hasn't contacted you?"
Fiona shook her head. "No! What's going on? Has something happened to Katherine too?"
Bernard didn't answer right away. After thinking for a moment, he asked, "Ms. Melville, can you get in touch with Alex's friend Sophia right now?"
Fiona sensed the gravity of the situation and thought for a moment. "Sophia called me earlier looking for Alex, but I didn't save her number. Let me check my call history."
Bernard nodded. "Please do, Ms. Melville."
Fiona quickly pulled out her phone and scrolled through her call logs. "Got it. Here's her number. Why do you need to find Sophia?"
Bernard didn't waste time explaining. "Ms. Melville, Katherine went out this afternoon and hasn't been seen since. I think Sophia might know something. Please call her and ask if she knows where Katherine is."
Fiona's eyes widened in alarm. "Katherine's missing?"
She immediately dialed Sophia's number. The phone rang a few times before Sophia picked up.
"Hello? Fiona?" Sophia's voice sounded hoarse, like she'd been crying.
"Sophia, where are you?" Fiona asked urgently.
"I'm at the hotel. What's wrong, Fiona? Is there news about Alex? Is he not dead?"
"No, it's not about Alex. Have you seen Katherine today? She's missing!"
Sophia's voice took on a surprised tone. "What? Katherine's missing? I haven't seen her! What's going on? How could she be missing?"
Fiona pressed on, "Bernard's here looking for her. He thinks you might have taken her. Did you really not see Katherine? She's pregnant with my brother's only child; nothing can happen to her! If you know anything, you have to tell me!"
Sophia sounded innocent. "Fiona, I'm telling the truth! I haven't seen Katherine today. I did go to the Mitchell mansion this afternoon to visit her, but they wouldn't let me in, and Bernard had me thrown out! Later, I saw the Mitchell family take Katherine to the hospital. I was worried about Alex's baby, so I went to the hospital too, but Bernard stopped me again. How can he think I took her? I couldn't even find out which room she was in! If he doesn't believe me, he can check the hospital's surveillance. But right now, we need to find Katherine fast!"
Fiona hung up and turned to Bernard. "What's going on? Why did Katherine go to your house? And why did she go to the hospital? Has she given birth?"
Bernard shook his head. "No, she was just shocked by the news about Alex. Both she and the baby are fine, but she ran off on her own."
Fiona was frantic. "Alex is already in trouble, and if something happens to Katherine, it'll destroy my grandparents! What do we do now? We need to call the police! We have to find her!"
Bernard stayed calm. "Ms. Melville, please give me Sophia's number. I have some questions for her."
