Chapter 567 She's Leaving
Until the last second, Katherine was still hoping Alex would come clean with her.
But now, seeing him all smug and self-righteous, she felt like there was no point in dragging this mess out any longer.
She stared at Alex, the guy who used to make her heart race, and said coldly, "Just standing here, you're already annoying me. I don't wanna see you right now!"
Alex snapped back, "Don't wanna see me? Katherine, do you hate me that much?"
"Yeah! I hate you to the core!" Katherine sneered, her eyes dripping with sarcasm. "Alex, it was wrong of me to kiss you to dodge a blind date, but I've owned up to that. I don't owe you anything now! And do you think it's fun to chase a girl who's not into you? Well, I'm done playing this game with you!"
Alex's brows furrowed, his eyes sharp as knives. "Game? You think I've been playing with you this whole time, don't you?"
Katherine laughed, "Isn't that so? You seem to be having a blast! Well, guess what? Game over!"
She yanked herself free from Alex and stormed out, not wanting to see him for another second.
Alex grabbed her again, pulling her back forcefully, then slowly let go. "You're not going anywhere! If you don't wanna see me, I'll leave!"
With that, he stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him with a deafening noise.
Katherine was startled by the loud noise, and then her eyes filled with loneliness.
The room was warm, but she felt so cold.
Probably woken up by their argument, Sandra knocked on the door. "Katherine? You in there, Katherine?"
No matter how disappointed Katherine was with Alex, she wouldn't take it out on innocent bystanders. She composed herself, walked over to open the door, and forced a smile. "Sandra, why are you still up so late?"
Sandra looked at her haggard face, full of concern. "Katherine, I heard you and Alex arguing just now. What's going on? Did he bully you? Tell me, and I'll set him straight!"
Katherine shook her head. "It's nothing, Alex and I just had a little argument. Sorry for disturbing your rest. Don't worry, I'm fine!"
Katherine could tell that Sandra genuinely liked her and would really scold Alex for her.
But Alex's issues couldn't be solved by a few scoldings from Sandra.
Sandra, still worried, took Katherine's hand and said, "Katherine, I know Alex has a bad temper. Living with him isn't easy. When he gets busy, he forgets everything and must have neglected your feelings. I'll talk to him later. How can he lose his temper with his pregnant wife? He's getting more and more outrageous!"
Katherine forced a smile. "Thanks for understanding, Sandra. Don't worry about us, go get some rest!"
Sandra patted Katherine's hand. "Alright, I'll go back to my room. You should rest early too. Don't get angry, it's bad for your health. It's not worth it! I'll give him a piece of my mind first thing in the morning!"
Katherine nodded, watching Sandra head back to her room. Just as she was about to close the door for some peace and quiet, Fiona came around the corner with Charles. "Katherine, wait, don't close the door!"
Katherine paused and looked at Fiona, her expression indifferent.
Fiona walked over with Charles, frowning. "I heard everything. You just lied to Sandra. You and Alex are getting a divorce, and you said it was just a little argument!"
Katherine coldly sneered, "So what if you heard? I'm not scared of you knowing. But you got one thing wrong! Alex and I don't need a divorce because we never registered our marriage."
Katherine, exhausted, rubbed her temples. "Do you have anything else? If not, I'm going to sleep!"
Fiona frowned. "Yes, Charles just woke up and wants to see you, so I brought him over!"
Katherine glanced at the pitiful Charles and said coldly, "He's Alex's adopted son, and he has nothing to do with me. You should call Alex to take him away!"
As she spoke, she was about to close the door when she was stopped halfway.
She suddenly felt her leg being hugged, afraid that closing the door would hurt Charles!
Katherine looked down at Charles, who was hugging her leg, his eyes full of insecurity, as if begging for a little bit of love.
Charles pouted, "Kate, Charles wants to stay with you."
Katherine had decided to cut ties with Alex and didn't want to be involved with anything related to him, but seeing Charles like this, she couldn't help but be moved.
After hesitating for a moment, she accepted Charles, took his hand, and led him inside.
Before Katherine closed the door, Fiona couldn't help but say, "Katherine, I don't know why you and Alex are fighting, but I think if you are this angry, it's probably Alex's fault! No matter what he messed up, give him another shot. He'll change for you!"
Katherine didn't say anything as she thought, 'I have given him chances, but Alex never told the truth. Now it is meaningless. Love always subtly changes a woman, no matter how proud she once was, the end is often humble and heartbroken. Claire, Celine, and now me—none of us were exceptions.'
Katherine closed the door, as if closing off her heart that had already made a decision.
Fiona sighed deeply at the door and reluctantly returned to her room.
Katherine put Charles on the bed and coaxed him to sleep.
Charles kept looking at her with his big, watery eyes, "Kate and Daddy are not good. Kate don't go."
Hearing Charles's words, Katherine paused, "Children shouldn't overthink, just sleep!"
Charles pouted, "Kate doesn't want Charles?"
Although Katherine felt sorry for the child, she really had no relationship with him, so it wasn't about wanting or not wanting.
Charles, as if afraid of being abandoned, tightly held Katherine's hand, "If Kate leaves, Charles will leave too."
