Chapter 508 I'm Very Busy
Edwin asked in surprise, "You don't mind Alex taking Charles, the child he and Scarlett adopted, to live with him?"
Katherine glanced at Edwin indifferently and calmly explained, "It's too late to be concerned about it. Charles has already been adopted, and someone has to take responsibility for raising him. No matter what, Charles is innocent."
Edwin's eyes showed a hint of admiration. How many girls would have such magnanimity and perspective, willing to accept a child their husband adopted with another woman?
At this moment, the Mitchell family's butler hurried over, bent down, and whispered something in Vincent's ear. Vincent's face darkened in anger, "What? Immediately assign more people to search!"
The butler nodded in understanding and left.
Then, Vincent looked at Katherine with a complicated expression and said, "Katherine, you should go home and rest today. We'll consider whether to let you and the Melville family take custody of Charles."
Katherine nodded in agreement, and remarked, "Alright, I'll wait for your news. Goodbye for now."
She stood up, politely said her farewells, and prepared to leave.
Edwin stood up and offered to accompany her, "I'll see you out."
Katherine's attitude towards Edwin was extremely cold, with a hint of rejection in her eyes as she spoke, "Please stay. I know the way out myself, so there's no need to see me off."
Edwin's steps faltered as he relented, "Alright, be careful on your way."
Katherine then turned and walked out...
Once outside the Mitchell family gate, Katherine got into the black car that was waiting for her.
Inside the car, Alex was lazily sitting in the back seat, his long fingers tapping on a laptop keyboard. Hearing her get in, he glanced at her and asked, "Did you explain everything to the Mitchell family?"
Katherine nodded in acknowledgment and replied, "Yes, I explained everything."
Alex tapped a few more keys, closed the laptop, and gently brushed her cheek with his large hand as he spoke softly, "It was their family who framed you. Now that the truth is out, you didn't need to explain to them."
Katherine said, "I wanted to clarify things with the Mitchell family to prevent Scarlett and Alice from taking advantage of the situation to clear their names and continue causing trouble. What they did didn't affect me much, but the damage to the Melville Group due to public opinion is irreversible. Although the Melville Group's stock market is gradually recovering, we need to be extra cautious and not give them another chance."
Alex looked at her deeply, his lips curling slightly into a smirk, and gently pinched her cheek. "Not bad. You even thought about me?" he teased her.
Katherine ignored his teasing, then informed him, "By the way, Alex, I just asked the Mitchell family for Charles's custody. They said they would consider it and get back to us."
Alex paused then asked, "Why?"
Katherine rolled her eyes at him in disbelief and retorted, "You adopted the child. You can't just completely abandon him. Besides, don't you think Charles is having a hard time with the Mitchell family? He's already been hurt by Scarlett, whom doesn't love Charles at all. She initially wanted to use him to tie you down. Now that she can't use him as leverage, she won't treat him well because Charles has no longer has value to her. You're one of Charles's legal guardians. If you take him in, at least he won't be abused."
Alex narrowed his eyes at her, intrigued, "You don't mind if I take him in?"
Katherine shrugged in refusal, then answered, "Saying I don't mind at all would be a lie! But Charles is quite cute. If you take him in, I can also practice taking care of a child."
Alex stared at her face for a long time, then pulled her into a tight embrace as he sincerely apologized, "Katherine, I'm sorry. I didn't discuss the adoption with you at the time."
Katherine quietly leaned against his chest, lowering her eyes. She said gently, "We all have our own difficulties. I understand Scarlett morally coerced you at the time."
Hearing Katherine's words, Alex's eyes trembled slightly... "Katherine."
"Yes?" Katherine said.
He lifted her chin and kissed her passionately!
Katherine's eyes widened, unaccustomed to his sudden move. She pushed against his chest but couldn't move him, so she gave up struggling.
After a long while, Alex finally let her go, allowing her to breathe freely.
He steadied his breath and said softly, "Katherine, I might be very busy for a long time, traveling between countries, and won't be able to come home every day."
The redness on Katherine's face faded, and she raised an eyebrow as she inquired, "Are you handling business abroad?"
Alex nodded in affirmation, and tried to comfort her, "Sort of. But I'll try to be home whenever I can."
Katherine thought for a moment, then suggested, "Alex, which country will you be traveling to? Maybe I can go with you?"
Alex's eyes lit up, and there was a hint of a smile in them. "You want to stick to me that much?" he teased playfully.
Katherine frowned and rolled her eyes at him arrogantly. " I haven't had much to do recently. If I go with you, it would be like a vacation!" she claimed.
Alex just smiled lightly, his rough hand landing on her head and gently rubbing it. "Be good, stay home, and take care of yourself. I'll come back as often as I can to be with you."
Katherine was stunned for a moment, then just nodded in agreement.
He doesn't want her to go with him; does he think she's a burden?
Twenty minutes later, the car stopped at the Melville Manor gate.
Alex rubbed Katherine's head again, reminding her, "Go home and eat well. I have to go to the company; I'll be back tonight."
The Melville Group's stock market hasn't fully recovered yet, and he must have a lot to handle. Katherine understood, got out of the car obediently, lazily waved at him, and then turned to walk towards the Melville Manor gate.
Alex watched her until she reached the gate and then signaled the driver to drive away.
Katherine was about to enter the gate code when her phone suddenly rang. She took out her phone and saw it was an unknown number.
She answered, and the person on the other end immediately called her name in a bad tone, "Katherine!"
"Who is this?" Katherine asked.
The person said, "Take three steps back, and you'll see me."
Katherine looked around and saw no one, then looked up and down the street, still seeing no one. "Sorry, I don't have time for these games."
She was about to hang up when the person hurriedly said, "Wait! Don't hang up!"
