Chapter 966 Food Poisoning

Hearing what Hellen said, Christina suddenly realized why Bernard had approached her for a marriage agreement. After all, she didn't think Bernard would feel responsible for that one night, nor did she believe he lacked women to marry.

It turned out Bernard was being pressured by his family, and he was just trying to appease them.

"Christina, I can tell you're a good kid. With you by his side, we can be a bit more at ease."

Faced with Hellen's kindness, Christina suddenly felt a bit guilty. Her marriage with Bernard was fake, and they would divorce in a year. At that time, Christina didn't know how she would face Hellen.

While taking a walk, Hellen gave her some more advice, and then went back inside, instructing a servant to take her to Bernard's room to rest.

Looking at the room, which was many times larger than her original one, Christina couldn't help but marvel.

It felt like a dream. Before today, she was still living in a small bedroom converted from a storage room in the Russell house, and now she was in such a luxurious large bedroom.

She wasn't used to it and felt a lot of pressure.

After spacing out for a while, Christina went to take a shower, changed into a more conservative nightgown, and with nothing else to do, went to bed to rest.

Initially, she was a bit anxious about how to face Bernard when he returned, but after lying in bed for a while, she soon fell asleep.

She slept well through the night, and when she woke up the next day, the other half of the bed was unchanged, with no signs of anyone having slept there.

Bernard hadn't come back last night.

This made Christina feel much more comfortable, as she wasn't ready to share a bed with a strange man.

Seeing that it was still early, Christina washed up and went downstairs to the kitchen.

When she walked into the kitchen, a maid was already preparing breakfast. Christina smiled and walked over, "Let me do it."

The maid's smile froze when she saw her, "Ms. Russell, this is my job. I'll do it."

"It's okay, I don't have anything else to do anyway." Christina smiled and took the basket from the maid, starting to wash the ingredients.

The maid didn't leave, just stepped aside, watching her coldly.

Noticing the maid hadn't left, Christina realized she might have taken over her job, which could get her scolded.

To make up for her oversight, Christina quickly smiled and reassured her, "What's your name? Don't worry, I'll tell them that I insisted on doing this myself!"

"Ms. Russell, my name is Jessie Larson. I've been here for many years. I'm responsible for Mr. Bernard Mitchell's meals."

Christina turned to look at her. "I see, then you must know Bernard's tastes very well."

"Of course, he usually prefers my cooking. He rarely eats what others make." Jessie said with a hint of pride.

Christina skillfully finished washing the ingredients, turned to the stove, and smiled, "Then you must be very good. I'll have to try your cooking someday!"

Jessie also smiled, but it was a bit forced, "Ms. Russell, is there anything else you need help with?"

"Not for now, you can take a break." Christina focused on making breakfast, which was her specialty.

She wondered if Hellen and Vincent would like such a homely breakfast.

Jessie responded softly but didn't leave the kitchen, waiting quietly on the side.

Christina made pancakes and scrambled eggs, and then decided to cook some porridge.

While the porridge was cooking, Christina suddenly felt a bit uncomfortable in her stomach. She quickly turned to Jessie and said, "Jessie, I need to use the restroom. Can you keep an eye on the porridge for me? It's not done yet."

"Okay, Ms. Russell." Jessie agreed, watching Christina leave, then showing a mysterious smile.

When Christina returned from the restroom, she saw Jessie had already brought out the porridge, "Is the porridge done?"

"Yes, it's done." Jessie placed three servings of breakfast on the table, "I'll go get Mr. Vincent Mitchell and Mrs. Mitchell for breakfast."

Christina nodded with a smile and sat down in the dining room.

For some reason, she felt Jessie looked at her strangely, as if she didn't like her.

After a while, Vincent and Hellen arrived at the dining room.

Seeing the table full of dishes, Hellen showed a loving smile, "Christina, did you prepare this breakfast?"

"Yes, I got up early today and thought I'd make breakfast for you to try!" Christina smiled, serving them porridge, "This is the porridge I made. Try it and see if you like it."

Hellen, who was very fond of the sensible Christina, sat down, smiled, and took the bowl from her hand, tasting a spoonful.

"It tastes very good."

Vincent also took a sip and gave Christina a thumbs up with a smile.

Receiving praise from them, Christina was very happy and even ate more than usual.

After breakfast, Christina returned to her room.

She wanted to organize the luggage she brought yesterday and put her clothes in the wardrobe.

"Ms. Russell, something's wrong!" The maid responsible for taking care of Hellen and Vincent, Titty Skye, suddenly knocked on her door, looking very anxious, "Mr. Mitchell and Mrs. Hellen Mitchell suddenly have diarrhea. The butler has arranged for them to be taken to the hospital. You should go see them too!"

Christina was startled and quickly followed Titty out, "What happened? They were fine just now, how did this happen suddenly?"

Titty hurriedly explained, "After breakfast, Mrs. Hellen Mitchell felt unwell, and then Mr. Mitchell also started feeling unwell. They're old, and after a few trips to the bathroom, they couldn't stand anymore. I quickly found the butler, and he arranged for the driver to take them to the hospital."

Titty and Christina got into the car, and the driver drove them to the hospital as fast as possible.

On the way, Christina thought for a moment and sent Bernard a message: [Your grandparents have diarrhea and are in the hospital. We're on our way. I'll send you the hospital address. Come if you have time!]

At the hospital, Christina and Titty found the emergency room and saw the elderly couple lying on the hospital bed receiving IV fluids.

They looked pale and were lying weakly on the bed.

Christina was very worried, wondering how this could happen.

Meanwhile, Bernard finished his meeting and rushed to the hospital as quickly as possible.

As Bernard entered the ward, the doctor and nurse also arrived, "We conducted a thorough examination and confirmed that they ate something contaminated, which caused food poisoning and led to diarrhea."
