Chapter 235 Stay Away from My Sister's Man
Scarlett glared at Katherine, who stared back at her.
What was Katherine doing in Bernard's office? What did she want?
Meanwhile, another set of footsteps approached.
Scarlett knew it was Alex coming to check things out, and she didn't want him to see Katherine right now.
Thinking quickly, Scarlett flashed a calculating smile and raised her voice. "Bernard, seriously, when did you start keeping a cat in your office? The kitten just choked on a fish snack, but luckily, it coughed it up! You should be more careful; don't give such small kittens fish snacks!"
Bernard squinted, catching on to Scarlett's scheme. "Yeah, it's my first time raising one. I'll be more careful."
With Bernard's cooperation, Scarlett shot Katherine a warning look, then stepped out from behind the bookshelf, blocking Alex. "Alex, it's just Bernard's little kitten. It hid as soon as I got close, so you can't see it!"
Alex glanced down at Scarlett, his cold eyes then fixed on the row of large bookshelves, still suspicious.
Katherine sensed the danger and took a deep breath to suppress her nausea.
She was also afraid Alex would come over, so she forced a smile and softly meowed, "Meow? Meow~"
"I'm starving! Bernard, Alex, and I are heading to the restaurant first. Join us when you're done!" Scarlett said, pulling Alex's sleeve. "Alex, let's go!"
Upon hearing the cat's meow, Alex's eyes darkened briefly before he withdrew his gaze and followed Scarlett out.
Bernard walked back to his chair, lazily sat down, and mockingly said, "Come out, little kitten."
Katherine stepped out from behind the bookshelf, her face calm and composed as usual.
Bernard tilted his head and scoffed, "Ms. Galatea, what were you hiding from?"
Katherine replied indifferently, "Nothing, I just didn't want to see someone I don't want to see."
Bernard scrutinized her thoughtfully and asked, "You don't want to see Alex? Why?"
Katherine didn't want to explain too much about Alex and stated, "No reason, I just don't want to see him. Mr. Mitchell, you don't need to ask more. Scarlett didn't want me to see him just now, did she?"
Bernard leaned back comfortably in his chair, his superior posture full of disdain, yet with a touch of cold elegance in his smile.
He sneered, "Ms. Galatea, it's good that you understand. Scarlett and Alex have been getting along well recently, and I'm sure you've noticed. So, I hope you can always maintain this self-awareness and stay away from Scarlett's man. Don't do anything foolish to interfere with their relationship again."
Katherine frowned. When had she ever interfered in someone else's relationship?
She was forced to marry into the Melville family!
Even if she did develop some feelings for Alex later, it was because Alex deceived her!
He said he and Scarlett only had a life-saving bond, nothing more.
She believed him, which was why.
Katherine didn't bother to explain and instead asked, "Mr. Mitchell, it seems you can now accept Scarlett marrying into the Melville family despite the grudges between your families?"
Bernard's expression held a hint of helplessness. "From a family standpoint, I don't support their union. It would invite considerable criticism from our elders. But Scarlett is so adamant; she believes Alex is her soulmate, and can't imagine life without him! As her brother, I can only do my best to protect her wishes and ensure her happiness. I won't tolerate anyone who threatens Scarlett's happiness and safety! I hope you understand!"
Katherine quietly looked at Bernard, a faint, mocking smile on her lips. "Yes, I understand. Scarlett is lucky to have a brother like you, Mr. Mitchell."
Bernard didn't care whether Katherine's praise was genuine or not. His warning was clear: stay away from Alex and don't interfere with Scarlett and Alex's relationship.
The feelings he had for Scarlett included those for his missing sister, Laura, twofold affection in one.
Fifteen years ago, failing to protect his mother and Laura was his lifelong regret.
So, he absolutely couldn't accept Scarlett being hurt in any way!
Especially by Katherine, who always caused Scarlett emotional pain, which he greatly disliked.
After Katherine stepped out from behind the bookshelf, her position had changed from when she first entered.
Now, she was standing beside Bernard's desk, at an angle where she could see the front of the items on his desk.
She had no intention to pry into personal items, but a casual glance caught sight of a photo in a frame on Bernard's desk, and her gaze froze!
The photo showed a bright-eyed woman holding a three- or four-year-old girl and a ten-year-old boy standing beside them, all smiling happily at the camera.
The woman in the photo looked so familiar, like... Mommy?
It was Mommy!
The woman's features matched her vague memories!
In her dreams and memories, Mommy's blurry image finally took shape!
Katherine's heart clenched, her pupils trembled, and her eyes reddened.
Bernard noticed the change, warily glaring at Katherine's strange expression. He followed her gaze to the photo frame on his desk, his brow furrowing as he turned the cherished photo away, ensuring it remained private.
He snorted, "Ms. Galatea, you can leave now! Billy, see her out!"
Billy responded, "Yes!"
He pushed the door open and glanced at Katherine. He thought seeing her out was secondary and first reported an urgent matter to Bernard, "Mr. Mitchell, there's a problem with the client from Arabia."
"What problem?" Bernard asked seriously.
Billy explained, "The previous Arabic translator was limited in skill, miscommunicating many technical terms, and the client was very dissatisfied. They just kicked him out and said they don't want to see him again."
Bernard's brow furrowed. The mineral cooperation with the Arabian client was very important. So he said, "Then find a professional translator for the client!"
Billy was troubled by this. He responded, "We've already searched through the Arabic language professionals! None of the available ones meet the standards. And those who do are not in Janetrick and can't get here quickly. The situation is bad; the client is angry and threatening to return home immediately."
Bernard's brow furrowed deeper as he faced a rather tricky problem, his usually composed face showing rare signs of anxiety.
Katherine raised an eyebrow and offered calmly, "If you can't find a translator, I can give it a try!"
