Chapter 689 Won't Be Polite Anymore
Katherine paused for a couple of seconds before saying, "That all depends on whether Alex can sort out his own stuff. I'm not bending my rules for anyone."
Teresa chuckled at that. "Katherine, don't stress. Alex will handle it. He's crazy about you. I'm so glad he met you. You've made him feel like a real person."
Really?
Katherine felt a bit worn out. She shifted to lie down on her pillow, feeling a bit bitter after hearing Teresa talk about Alex's past.
She grabbed her phone and opened her chat with Alex. She typed out a message: [Good night, Alex.]
A few seconds later, Alex replied: [Good night.]
Putting her phone down, Katherine slowly closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.
Seeing Katherine asleep, Teresa didn't say a word and quietly sat to the side, scrolling through her phone on silent mode.
The next morning.
In the car heading to the Melville Group, Leander, sitting in the passenger seat, turned around respectfully to report the latest news, "Mr. Melville, Ms. Coleman took this morning's flight back to Markovia."
Alex narrowed his eyes slightly. "Didn't she lose all her passport and documents?"
Leander guessed, "Maybe she didn't want to annul the marriage and lied about losing them?"
Alex frowned and fell silent, deep in thought.
Leander, looking concerned, said, "Mr. Melville, Ms. Coleman didn't leave on good terms. She seemed pretty mad. Once she's back in Markovia, she might complain to her father. And Brent really dotes on her. We've already ticked off Summit Innovations Group, and this could spell trouble."
Alex frowned and said calmly, "She signed the contract back then. The marriage doesn't affect me, and she knew that."
Leander added, "But Ms. Coleman has always had a thing for you."
Thinking about it, Alex rubbed his temples, feeling annoyed. He hadn't noticed Sophia's feelings for him before because he never saw her as a woman.
If he had known, he wouldn't have agreed to her volunteering to help back then.
Now, annulling the marriage might not be so simple.
Just then, Alex's phone rang, snapping him out of his thoughts.
It was a call from Sandra.
Alex had just left home not long ago, and now Sandra was calling. Was something urgent?
Alex answered the call, and Sandra's complaining voice came through. "Alex, why did you leave? Didn't I tell you to wait a bit longer? I made soup for Katherine early this morning and wanted you to take it to her. Why didn't you wait?"
Feeling a bit tired, Alex said, "There are things at the company that need to be handled. I didn't have time to wait."
Sandra, clearly dissatisfied, said, "No matter how urgent the company's matters are, can they be more urgent than Katherine's health? I spent hours making that soup. Come back and take it to Katherine. Hurry up."
Alex felt pretty helpless. "Sandra, you need to rest more. You don't have to do all this yourself. If she wants soup, I'll get a nutritionist to make it for her."
"Alex, nothing compares to what I make. Come back and get it. Don't make me worry."
"Okay, I'll have Leander go back and get it later."
Sandra wasn't having it. "You need to take it to Katherine yourself. We kept your marriage with Sophia a secret from Katherine. I feel guilty about it now. If you don't step up, how can you bring Katherine home quickly?"
Alex sighed, "Sandra, I get it. Don't worry about it."
With that, Alex hung up the phone, not wanting to hear more nagging. He then told Leander, "Go back home later and get the soup."
Leander nodded. "Yes, Mr. Melville. Do you need me to take it to Mrs. Melville?"
Alex said, "No, bring it to me."
Leander paused, confused. "But wasn't it made for Mrs. Melville? You want to drink it, Mr. Melville?"
Alex rubbed his temples. "Who knows what was added to the soup? It might not be good for her health."
Leander nodded. "Got it."
After giving Leander instructions, Alex took out his phone and opened the chat with Katherine. Seeing the message she sent before bed, his eyes softened.
His long fingers typed out a few words and sent them.
Soon, a picture of a half-eaten breakfast came back.
Alex narrowed his eyes and typed: [You went to bed late. Why are you up so early?]
Katherine replied: [So why are you deliberately disturbing my sleep by messaging me so early?]
Alex frowned: [Sharp-tongued. Can I see you later?]
Katherine: [How?]
Alex felt a bit uncertain and cautiously typed out a few words: [Can you come to the Mitchell mansion?]
Katherine replied instantly: [No. Until that matter is resolved, we should see each other as little as possible.]
Alex, feeling helpless, knew he was in the wrong and didn't say anything more.
At that moment, she sent him another photo, a selfie.
In the photo, she was staring seriously at the camera.
Alex's serious face broke into a slight smile, and he chuckled softly.
Even though it was a photo of her staring seriously, which wasn't particularly cute, why did he find it so alluring?
The Mitchell mansion.
After sending Alex a photo, Katherine wanted to put down her phone and enjoy her meal.
But at that moment, an international call came in.
Seeing the unfamiliar caller ID, she didn't want to answer, but the caller called again after hanging up.
Katherine frowned and answered the call. "Hello, who is this?"
"It's me, Sophia."
Katherine's expression froze for a moment. "Ms. Coleman, what do you need so early in the morning?"
Sophia didn't speak to her as politely as before and sneered, "I'm calling to inform you that I've returned to Markovia. I just got off the plane."
Katherine smiled, "Really? Why didn't you say so earlier? I should have seen you off at the airport."
Sophia coldly said, "Katherine, don't be happy too soon. My return doesn't mean I'm giving up on Alex. On the contrary, this is a formal declaration of war. Just wait. I won't be polite to you anymore."
