Chapter 293 Why Did You Leave the Melville Family?

After Sunny slipped out of the office, he asked the secretary at the front desk, "Hey, where's the office of the girl who just took documents to Bernard?"

Lisa Hill stood up. "You mean Katherine, who just went into the president's office?"

Sunny nodded. "Yeah, that's her!"

Lisa looked puzzled. "Why do you need Katherine? Do you know her?"

Sunny frowned impatiently. "Do I have to explain myself to you?"

Lisa quickly waved her hands, smiling apologetically. "No, no, I was just asking. Her office is straight ahead, across the program manager's office. Need me to show you the way?"

"No need!" Sunny snapped and followed the directions.

He found the sales manager's office, peeked inside to confirm Katherine was there, then pushed the door open and walked in.

"Katherine!" he called out.

Katherine, who was playing Texas Hold'em on her computer, glanced at him calmly. "What do you want?"

Sunny swaggered over, peeking at her screen. "Playing games during work hours?"

Katherine focused on her cards, indifferent. "I finished my work early. What's wrong with a little fun?"

Sunny snorted but didn't press the issue. He didn't really care if she was working or not.

He plopped down in the chair opposite her desk, staring. "Katherine, where have you been this past month?"

Katherine stayed nonchalant, eyes on her screen. "Nowhere special. Just wandering around."

Sunny was puzzled. "Wandering around? If you left, why come work for Bernard?"

She shrugged. "Good benefits, a high salary, and good career prospects."

Sunny frowned, squinting at her. "Do you really need that salary?"

Katherine clicked her mouse, playing a card. "You're so naive. Of course, I need that salary. How else would I earn my living?"

Sunny wasn't convinced, looking at her suspiciously, arms crossed. "What kind of working person are you? You were Mrs. Melville before. You had all the money you wanted! Even if you wanted to work, you could've asked Alex for a job at Melville Group. Why leave and come here?"

Katherine yawned, bored. "Sunny, have you finished your homework? Got so much time to question me?"

Sunny snorted. "Scarlett's here, talking to Bernard! I had nothing to do, so I came to chat with you. Is there a problem?"

Katherine chuckled, nodding slightly. "Of course not. This is your family's company. You can do whatever you want!"

Sunny felt her attitude was dismissive, which made him angry. He gritted his teeth. "Katherine!"

Katherine continued playing her game absentmindedly. "Yes, Sunny, go ahead, I'm listening!"

Sunny stood up, leaned on her desk, and got closer. "Tell me the truth. Why did you leave the Melville family back then?"

Katherine's hand on the mouse paused slightly, then she curled her lips, still not raising an eyebrow. "Because my task was completed, I naturally had to leave."

Sunny's clear, youthful eyes were full of confusion. "Task? What task?"

Katherine finally glanced at him lightly. "Didn't you know already? Mr. Melville never seriously married me. It was just to deal with the Melville family elders. After that, if I didn't leave, wouldn't I really become your sister's rival in love?"

Sunny was stunned, staring at her calm demeanor. He pursed his lips, wanting to say something but stopping.

At that moment, someone knocked on Katherine's office door. Bernard's secretary, Lisa, poked her head in. "Sunny, Miss Scarlett has left. Mr. Mitchell asked me to call you back to continue your homework."

Hearing he had to go back to do homework, Sunny felt a headache coming on. "Oh, I got it! You go back first. I'll talk to Ms. Galatea for a few more minutes and then go back myself!"

"Alright!" Lisa responded respectfully to Sunny while giving Katherine a disdainful look, secretly rolling her eyes.

This Katherine, trying to climb the social ladder, no wonder Ms. Mitchell was wary of her. She even tried to seduce a kid like Sunny. How disgusting!

After making sure that Bernard's secretary had walked far enough, Sunny immediately grabbed Katherine's wrist, which was holding the mouse. "Katherine, come with me!"

She asked, "Huh? Why should I go with you? Mr. Mitchell didn't call me!"

Katherine was reluctant, but Sunny was determined, already pulling her up and dragging her out of the office.

Sunny didn't have time to explain much, hurriedly pulling her into the elevator that was about to close, finally breathing a sigh of relief. Fortunately, they caught the elevator, and there was no one else inside.

Katherine shook off his hand. "Sunny, what's your problem? Why did you drag me out?"

Sunny said, "I don't want to go back and do homework; I don't know how to solve any of those problems. I'll definitely get scolded by Bernard if I go back!"

Katherine looked at him like he was crazy, curling her lips. "Then you should have just left by yourself. Why drag me along?"

Sunny righteously said, "Because I don't have any money on me. If I ran out by myself, I wouldn't have money to take a cab home!"

Katherine was speechless. "Sunny, don't be so selfish! If you make me skip work for no reason, won't I also get scolded by Bernard?"

Sunny snorted. "Katherine, stop pretending! I know you didn't come to the Mitchell Group for work, so what if you skip work!"

Katherine was slightly stunned, looking at Sunny in surprise, not expecting him to be smart sometimes. What did he see? How did he figure it out?

Sunny turned his face, staring at Katherine seriously with a look that couldn't be hidden. "Tell me! Did you fall for Bernard?"
