Chapter 263 Want to Stay Away but Get Closer?

Hilton, rocking a white suit, stood tall and confident in the middle of the dance floor, looking every bit like a modern-day Prince Charming. No one had a clue what he was about to pull off next.

A waiter carrying a tray of red wine strolled by. Jonathan flagged him down, grabbed a glass, and nodded for the waiter to serve his friends too.

Issac and Alex each took a glass, clinked them together, and waited for Hilton's big move.

Katherine shook her head at the waiter. "No thanks, I don't drink."

Jonathan grinned and instructed the waiter. "Get the lady a juice."

"Yes, Mr. Mostow," the waiter replied and walked off.

Jonathan leaned in close to Katherine with a smile. "Katherine, do you never drink?"

Katherine shrugged. "Depends on my mood."

Jonathan raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "So, do you drink when you're in a good mood or a bad one?"

Katherine replied, "Both."

Jonathan chuckled, "Well, maybe I can take you out for a drink sometime?"

Katherine turned to tell him to quit flirting, but she caught Alex's icy stare. His eyes were sharp and cold, making her uneasy. She turned back, not wanting to chat with Jonathan anymore.

Just then, the piano music stopped, and a lively dance track kicked in.

Issac swirled his wine and called out, "Mr. Allen, show us what you got!"

Hilton smirked, ran a hand through his hair, and said, "Dance? Why not! I lost the bet, so here goes nothing!"

He shrugged off his suit jacket, swayed to the beat, and twirled his jacket before tossing it into the crowd.

A girl caught it, blushing as her friends screamed and fought over the jacket, trying to catch a whiff of Hilton's scent.

Jonathan, unfazed by Katherine's silence, clinked glasses with Issac and Alex, enjoying both the wine and Hilton's performance.

Katherine watched too, a smile playing on her lips as Hilton's dance moves got more outrageous.

The room was so loud and lively that she didn't notice Alex's cold gaze shifting.

Hilton, now shirtless, showcased his broad shoulders, narrow waist, and chiseled eight-pack abs, appearing incredibly attractive under the dance floor lights. The women were both shy and thrilled by the sight.

Getting into the groove, Hilton raised his eyebrows at the girls, unbuckling his belt, ready to take off his pants.

Suddenly, there was a click, and everything went dark!

A power outage?!

People gasped and panicked.

One guest asked, "What happened?"

Another added, "Power outage?"

Someone else called out, "It's so dark! What do we do? I'm scared of the dark."

Someone suddenly shoved forward, making Katherine stumble. She almost lost her balance, but grabbed Jonathan's arm just in time!

Wearing high heels, something she rarely did, and being pregnant, a fall in the dark could pose a danger toboth her and the baby.

Katherine held onto Jonathan's arm. "Jonathan, can I hold onto you for a moment?"

Jonathan didn't say anything but didn't pull away either.

Soon, a flashlight beam cut through the darkness. The manor's butler hurried over, calming everyone down. "Please don't panic. It's just a power outage due to a short circuit! We're fixing it, and the lights will be back on soon."

A guest shouted, "Please hurry. My girlfriend's scared of the dark!"

Another added, "That was quite a scare!"

Someone else chimed in, "It's okay, don't be afraid, it's just a power outage!"

About a minute later, the chandelier in the banquet hall flickered back to life.

Everyone sighed in relief and went back to what they were doing.

Unfortunately, Hilton, now back in the center of the dance floor, had already dressed again. He adjusted his tie and grinned at his friends. "Sorry, everyone. I finished my dance during the blackout. If you missed it, tough luck!"

Katherine seriously suspected Hilton had something to do with the power outage!

If not, then he was incredibly fortunate to experience a blackout at such a critical moment!

She didn't really want to see Hilton's strip dance, but he had clearly singled her out during the card game. Now, not seeing him face the consequences was somewhat disappointing!

With the power back on, Katherine let go of Jonathan's arm and looked up to thank him. "Thank you."

The words froze on her lips when she looked up and saw not Jonathan, but Alex's cold, expressionless face.

Alex?

How could it be him?

Before the power outage, he wasn't standing here!

Katherine couldn't believe she had mistakenly grabbed Alex in the dark!

Instinctively, she took a step back, wanting to distance herself from him.

Just then, the waiter Jonathan had instructed to bring her juice arrived behind her.

Katherine's sudden step back caught the waiter off guard, almost causing the tray to spill on her.

"Watch out!" Alex called out.

His long arm wrapped around her, pulling her close to shield her from colliding with the waiter.

The waiter steadied the tray, avoiding a disaster!

Katherine had intended to distance herself from Alex, but now she was pulled into his firm chest, creating an awkward atmosphere.

"Alex!" Scarlett's voice suddenly rang out.

Katherine snapped back to reality and looked towards the voice.

She saw Scarlett holding a child named Charles, standing not far away, blinking her doe-like eyes and frowning.

Bernard and Sophie were also with Scarlett, looking at her with not-so-friendly eyes.

Realizing the situation, Katherine quickly moved away from Alex, creating space for Scarlett and their child.

Scarlett walked over, holding the child, and in a gentle, wifely manner, said, "Alex, the sudden power outage scared Charles and me. Charles kept insisting on finding you!"
