Chapter 817 Join Us
"Alright, I'll go check on the kids!"
With that, Katherine walked towards the door, and Fiona followed behind her.
Bernard pinched the bridge of his nose and slowly followed as well.
As soon as Katherine stepped out, she saw the three little ones surrounding Sunny, asking for snacks. Sunny must have bought them a lot of snacks on the way.
"Hand them over, I'm confiscating them! You can't let them eat too many snacks."
Hearing Katherine's voice, the three little ones immediately behaved and turned to her, calling, "Mommy!"
Katherine walked up to her three children and gave each of them a light tap on the hand. "Did you three forget what I told you? No sneaking snacks without my permission!"
Julian, Edith, and Charles, knowing they were in the wrong, pouted and lowered their heads.
Sunny, feeling sorry for the three little ones, brought the snacks to Katherine and tried to reason with her on their behalf. "It's not like they eat them every day. It's okay to have some once in a while! We're out having fun, don't be so strict!"
Katherine gave him a disapproving look. "Strict? I'm their mother; I'm just looking out for them. You're the one tempting them with too many snacks. If they get a stomachache, I'm the one who has to deal with it!"
Sunny looked displeased. "Katherine, I bought these snacks from a reputable store. They're not going to make them sick.I promise you, if any of them get a stomachache today, I'll take care of it! Come on, Katherine, let's give them a little break today. Let them enjoy themselves. What do you say?"
Julian, Edith, and Charles, hearing Sunny speak up for them, were thrilled. They each tugged at Katherine's clothes, hoping she would agree with Sunny.
Katherine definitely couldn't agree. If she let the three kids eat whatever they wanted, they would surely overeat and get sick. What then?
She furrowed her brows, thinking about how to explain it to the kids without disappointing them too much.
At that moment, Bernard's deep, authoritative voice rang out. "What are you doing here?"
"Bernard!" Sunny was startled at first, then quickly hid behind Katherine. "When did you get here?"
Bernard squinted in displeasure and asked, "Aren't you happy to see me?"
Sunny forced a laugh. "Of course I am! I'm just a bit surprised!"
His laugh was awkward, and he playfully poked Katherine. "You should have told me Bernard was here. You gave me a scare!"
Katherine rolled her eyes at him. "If you haven't done anything wrong, why are you afraid of him?"
Sunny didn't think he had done anything wrong; he was just afraid Bernard would come between him and Ambrosia, causing a rift and making Ambrosia unhappy.
The three kids, seeing Bernard, affectionately ran over to hug his legs.
"Uncle Bernard, can you help convince Mommy to let us have some snacks?"
"Uncle Bernard, please help. You're the best!"
"Uncle Bernard, please."
Seeing the three adorable kids pleading with him, Bernard looked down at them indulgently and then glanced at Katherine to gauge her reaction.
Katherine stood with her arms crossed, looking resolute, clearly not open to negotiation.
Even if Bernard wanted to agree with the kids, he didn't dare upset Katherine, who had just started to warm up to him.
So, he squatted down, gently ruffled each child's hair, and said earnestly, "Your mom doesn't want you to eat snacks for your own good. Even if you don't eat them today, those snacks are still yours. Listen to your mom and eat them slowly over time."
Seeing that Bernard wasn't going to help, Julian, Edith, and Charles resignedly nodded.
"Okay. We'll listen to Mommy!"
Bernard smiled. "That's right. Be good and listen to your mom. I'll buy you lots of treats in the future."
Watching Bernard's loving interaction with Julian, Edith, and Charles, Sunny pouted and whispered in Katherine's ear, "I wonder when I'll get to see Bernard's kind side? When I was a kid, he was always so strict with me!"
Katherine rolled her eyes at him. "Isn't that because you didn't study well and always caused trouble at home?"
Sunny shrugged. "I didn't cause trouble! I just had poor grades and liked to play video games!"
Bernard overheard Sunny's grumbling, lifted his head, and sternly glared at him. "Come home with me!"
Hearing that Bernard wanted to take him away, Sunny quickly hid further behind Katherine. "I can't go back with you. I have things to do!"
Bernard frowned. "What do you have to do?"
Sunny replied, "I need to hang out with my friends. One of my friends is getting married soon! Right, Katherine?"
As he spoke, Sunny subtly poked Katherine from behind, hoping she would back him up.
Katherine, a bit exasperated with Sunny, knew he just wanted to stick around Ambrosia. Since Ambrosia didn't seem to mind him, she spoke up for him. "Mr. Mitchell, let him stay."
Since Katherine had spoken, Bernard didn't make things difficult for Sunny. He gave him a cold look and then nodded at Katherine before preparing to leave.
Frank came out of the kitchen with coffee. "Mr. Mitchell, it's the weekend, and you probably don't have work, right? Why not stay and join us? Teresa and I are getting married next week, and I've booked a restaurant for tonight to have a final single's party. Katherine and the kids are here too, so you can spend some time with them."
Bernard looked at Frank and then at Teresa beside him, seemingly surprised that they were getting married.
After a brief thought, Bernard's gaze shifted to Katherine and the three kids.
He indeed had no other plans today. He had only hesitated to stay because he didn't want to impose. But since they invited him, he didn't mind staying.
"If you're all okay with it, then I'll stay."
Frank smiled and came over. "Then have a seat and enjoy some coffee! I've already ordered takeout for lunch. We'll have a casual meal at home with the kids and then head to the restaurant for dinner tonight!"
