Chapter 247 Aren't You Afraid Alex Will Find Out?
Sophie initially wanted to send Katherineon this errand, but fearing that Katherine might tamper with Charles's water, she shot her a disgusted look and decided to go herself.
After a while, Scarlett came out of the clinic holding her child.
Scarlett's delicate face didn't show the usual worried and cautious expressions of a mother concerned about her child's injuries. Instead, she smiled sweetly at Katherine.
"Katherine, you really are something! Even with all the effort I put into setting this up today, you managed to resolve it so easily!"
Scarlett's true colors didn't surprise Katherine, but they did give her a new perspective on her.
Before, she just thought Scarlett was a two-faced, deeply scheming person. Now, she realized this seemingly harmless woman was even more terrifying than she had imagined.
Using her young son, who couldn't yet speak to express himself, to manipulate situations—this was truly unscrupulous!
Katherine smirked coldly, "Miss Mitchell, you're too kind. I'm not as ruthless as you, willing to harm your own son. Aren't you afraid his father will find out?"
Scarlett's smile stayed bright and confident. "Charles's father won't find out because the doctor just said that our Charles, like you, has an allergic constitution. The bruises on his body are just from contact with unknown allergens! No matter who comes, the doctor will say the same thing."
Katherine was momentarily stunned but quickly understood. Scarlett must have bribed the doctor after sending Sophie away.
She looked down at the overly obedient and anxious little boy in Scarlett's arms and couldn't help but feel some sympathy—poor kid, to have such a mother.
She asked, "He's your son. How can you be so cruel?"
Scarlett was indifferent, looking at her obedient son with a radiant smile. "Katherine, you don't need to worry about other people's family matters. You can leave now. Alex will be here soon to pick us up!"
Hearing Scarlett mention Alex's name made Katherine's chest tighten.
She took a deep breath, ignoring the feeling in her chest, and said formally, "Mr. Mitchell instructed me to ensure that Miss Mitchell and your son are safe and sound before I return to the company. So, I have to wait until Mr. Melville arrives and confirms it before I can leave."
Seeing that Katherine had no intention of leaving, Scarlett frowned warily and questioned, "Katherine, don't you not want Alex to see you? Why do you insist on waiting for him now? Have you changed your mind and want to take this opportunity to seduce Alex?"
Katherine chuckled, "Don't worry, I won't let your him see me. I just need to confirm that Mr. Melville will indeed pick up you and your son so I can report back to Mr. Mitchell. That's all!"
Scarlett glared at her suspiciously, remaining wary. "Katherine, you'd better not have any inappropriate thoughts about Alex, or else."
Before she could finish her threat, Sophie returned with the water, interrupting her, "Scarlett, why are you out here? What did the doctor say about Charles?"
Scarlett instantly changed her expression, reverting to her usual innocent demeanor in front of family and friends. "Sophie, don't worry. The doctor just said that Charles is only having an allergic reaction, not being abused."
Sophie handed Scarlett a bottle of water. "Allergic? What is Charles allergic to? We need to find out what he's allergic to and be careful in the future!"
Scarlett nodded. "Yes, the nurse will come to draw blood and test for allergens soon!"
Sophie asked, "So what about Charles now? How should he be treated?"
"The doctor said he needs to stay in the hospital for an IV," Scarlett replied.
Hearing Scarlett say that the child needed an IV, Katherine frowned. It was clear Charles wasn't having an allergic reaction. Wouldn't it be harmful to give him an IV for allergies?
How could Scarlett be so willing to torment her child?
It seemed that Sophie cared more about the child's health than his mother!
In the pediatric ward, Charles lay on the bed with tears in his eyes, obediently extending his small hand for the nurse to insert the IV needle under Scarlett's guidance.
The child was unusually obedient, not resisting or crying at the sight of the IV needle.
Katherine, feeling uneasy, stepped forward to check the prescription the bribed doctor had given Charles.
The IV only contained saline and nutrients, with no other complex medications, but such a young child shouldn't be given saline without necessity. Could he bear it?
As an expectant mother herself, Katherine couldn't stand seeing Scarlett use a child like this and wanted to speak up to stop her.
Just then, Scarlett's phone rang. She quickly answered, her voice soft and gentle. "Alex, you're here! Yes, we're on the sixth floor of the inpatient department, room 602. Charles is about to get an IV!"
Hearing that Alex had arrived, Katherine's heart raced. She immediately decided to avoid him by hiding in the ward bathroom.
Seeing Katherine hide, a dark look flashed in Scarlett's eyes, but she was satisfied. She didn't want Alex to see Katherine at this moment!
Sophie, also worried that Katherine might try to seduce Alex again, was relieved to see her hide in the bathroom, thinking it was best for her to stay out of sight!
Soon, someone pushed open the door to the ward, their footsteps steady.
A deep, serious voice asked, "What happened to Charles?"
Scarlett, with a tearful voice, softly replied, "Alex, it's nothing. The doctor said Charles is just having an allergic reaction! I was just too worried and called you. I hope I didn't interrupt your work?"
"No." Alex stepped towards the bed, looking at the child already connected to the IV.
Scarlett continued, "Alex, don't worry. The doctor said Charles will be fine!"
Alex responded with a brief acknowledgment and then turned to leave. "Good. I'll just go to the bathroom."
Hearing that Alex was heading to the bathroom, Scarlett and Sophie's faces changed, their pupils widening in panic!
Katherine was hiding in that bathroom!
Alex walked to the bathroom door and tried to turn the handle, but it wouldn't budge.
Alex frowned and asked, "Excuse me. Is someone there?"
Inside the bathroom, Katherine's heart pounded in her chest.
