Chapter 106 Alex Wanted to Take Her Out

‘Honeymoon?’ Alex narrowed his eyes thoughtfully. He had never considered keeping his marriage with Katherine, let alone honeymoon.

Beside him, Sunny grumbled discontentedly, "Hilton, you're overthinking it! Alex and Katherine won't last long. There's no need for a honeymoon. Anyway, Alex will go on a honeymoon with Scarlett in the future!"

"Sunny, you don't get it!" Hilton gleamed his eyes mischievously as he raised an eyebrow at Alex sitting in the office chair with a somber expression. "Alex, what do you think? Going or not?"

Alex turned a page in his document, his eyes still on it, and replied, "Katherine is tired today, so we won't go. Tomorrow morning, I'll bring her to meet you."

Hilton snapped his fingers and then said, "Deal then!"

He then elegantly slipped his hands into his pockets and turned to leave.

Seeing Sunny still standing there, Hilton paused and patted his shoulder. "What are you still doing here? Let's go, come with me to the stables!"

Sunny was willing to follow him but looked a bit troubled. After hesitating for a moment, he pleaded, "Hilton, can you call Bernard for me? I'm afraid he won't let me go."

Hilton chuckled and teased. "How old are you, still afraid of Bernard?"

Sunny looked helpless and answered, "You know what Bernard is like! He's inhuman, even stricter than my dad."

"Alright, I'll call Bernard and put in a good word for you!" he then said.

"You're the best! Hilton, if you can convince Bernard to let me go horseback riding, I'll treat you to grilled lamb chops at the stables!" Sunny said.

In the evening, at the Melville Manor.

Katherine had slept all afternoon after coming back and woke up feeling hungry. She went to the kitchen to cook some pasta.

There were quite a few servants at the Melville Manor, but apart from Uncle Anton who was respectful to Katherine, most of them were on Fiona's side and hostile towards her.

Everyone believed that Mr. Melville didn't care much for the hastily married Mrs. Melville, as he rarely stayed overnight after the wedding.

So, with Sandra gone, the servants paid even less attention to Katherine. With Mr. Melville not around, no one would bother to prepare dinner for her.

Katherine didn't mind this. She never considered herself part of the Melville Manor and didn't care about the servants' attitudes.

Having been self-reliant since childhood, Katherine was used to cooking for herself when hungry.

When Alex returned, he saw Katherine busy in the kitchen alone, with no servants around and Uncle Anton absent.

His eyes darkened slightly as he walked to the kitchen door and asked, "What are you making?"

Katherine was chopping onions and paused at his voice. She turned around and said, "Alex, you're back! I'm making pasta. Do you want some?"

Katherine was wearing a plain apron tied tightly at the back in a bow, accentuating her slim waist.

Alex warmed his eyes, his throat a bit dry. He glanced at the prepared ingredients on the counter with some interest and said in a calm voice, "I could take a try."

Katherine had expected him to refuse disdainfully. Hearing him say he could try it, she secretly pouted. "Then go wait in the dining room. The pasta will be ready in fifteen minutes!"

Alex said nothing and put down his things, tossing his suit jacket on the sofa. Then, he returned to the kitchen.

With a calm expression, he slowly rolled up his shirt sleeves and asked in a neutral tone, "Do you need any help?"

Katherine blinked in surprise that this pampered man would offer to help. After thinking for a moment, she said, "Hmm... then could you get two eggs and beat them for me?"

Alex nodded and asked, "Where are the eggs?"

Katherine tugged at the corner of her mouth. "Alex, isn't this your house? Shouldn't you know where things are kept?"

Alex frowned, then answered, "Do you think I have nothing better to do than check where everything is in the kitchen?"

Katherine let out a dry laugh. "The eggs are in the bottom drawer of the fridge."

With a stern face, Alex turned to get the eggs from the fridge.

In the kitchen, the two of them worked silently, not exchanging any more words.

As Alex beat the eggs, his deep gaze remained fixed on the busy Katherine beside him, and he was unable to look away.

Katherine quickly finished preparing two bowls of pasta and said to Alex, "Alex, you take the pasta to the dining table first. I'll go to the bathroom and come back later."

Alex had no objections and carried the two bowls out of the kitchen.

At that moment, Uncle Anton came in from outside. Seeing Alex carrying the bowls himself, he was startled and quickly looked around, realizing there were no servants on duty.

Those lazy workers had taken advantage of his absence to slack off somewhere!

"Mr. Melville, when did you get back? Please, let me take those bowls. You shouldn't be doing this!" Anton said.

Alex glanced at Uncle Anton but didn't hand over the bowls. He placed them on the dining table, pulled out a chair, and sat down before speaking in a low voice. "You think I shouldn't be doing this, but Mrs. Melville should?"

Uncle Anton was taken aback and immediately understood what Mr. Melville meant. He explained with a guilty expression, "I'm sorry, Mr. Melville. It's my fault! I was watering Warner's flowers in the yard and didn't know Mrs. Melville had woken up and needed dinner. The servants are still upset about Fiona's incident, so..."

Alex lowered his eyes, calmly adjusting his shirt cuffs. "If they have grievances, then replace them with people who don't."

Alex was calm but carried an undeniable authority that instilled fear and sent chills down one's spine.

Uncle Anton didn't dare plead for the servants. He could see that Mr. Melville was genuinely angry and not just trying to scare them.

When Katherine returned from the bathroom and saw Uncle Anton, she politely asked, "Uncle Anton, would you like some pasta? There's still some in the pot."

Uncle Anton was flattered and quickly waved his hand. "Mrs. Melville, you're too kind. I'm not hungry! I still have some tasks to finish. You and Mr. Melville enjoy your meal. I'll have someone come to clear the dishes later."

With that, Uncle Anton left to find and reprimand the lazy servants.

Katherine sat down and noticed a takeout box of barbecue on the table, her eyes lighting up instantly!

It was from her favorite street vendor!

She asked incredulously, "Alex, did you buy this barbecue?"

Alex replied expressionlessly, "Leander passed by and bought it."

Katherine believed him and immediately grabbed a skewer to eat.

Alex raised an eyebrow and questioned, "Did I say you could eat that?"

Katherine rolled her eyes at him and retorted, "You eat the pasta I made, and I eat the barbecue you bought. It's a fair trade."

Alex snorted, but a hint of a smile played on his lips as he picked up his utensils and tasted the pasta she had made.

It was quite good.

"Did you go to the hospital today?" he suddenly asked.

Katherine nodded while eating the meat skewer. "Yes, Lilian got hurt. Mr. Nelson probably told you, right?"

Alex asked again, "Did you get yourself checked while you were there?"

Katherine raised an eyebrow in confusion. "Why would I get checked? I'm fine!"

The man stirred his pasta seriously and added, "Last night was your first time. You should check if I accidentally hurt you."

Katherine instantly blushed, and she almost choked.
