Chapter 520 Ghost

Knowing there were no cameras in the morgue, Scarlett dropped all pretense and unleashed a torrent of curses at Katherine's corpse for a long time, saying the nastiest things she could think of.

Finally, she vented all the pent-up anger that had been building in her chest!

Every scheme she had devised against Katherine had almost always failed, but today, she finally got her revenge!

Originally, she hadn't intended to take Katherine's life. In her eyes, Katherine was just a lowly country girl, not worth dirtying her hands over.

But Katherine didn't know her place. Not only did she steal her man, she also tried to take her place in the Mitchell family, causing her to lose her brother's affection, her father's attention, and her grandparents' love!

Katherine had it coming!

After cursing enough, Scarlett prepared to leave the cold morgue. As she turned around, she saw Katherine standing about two meters behind her, watching her...

A ghost?!

Scarlett was so frightened she took a step back and almost fell backwards. She looked down at Katherine's corpse and then at the intact Katherine standing in front of her, both wearing identical clothes... "Are you a human or a ghost?" she asked foolishly.

Katherine's intact figure stood there, the dim light making it hard to tell if she was real or just a figment of her imagination.

Facing Scarlett's terrified expression, Katherine just smiled without saying a word.

The more she stayed silent, the more sinister her smile appeared.

After calming down for a while, Scarlett swallowed her fear and glared at Katherine with a mix of fear and disgust. "Even if you're a ghost, I'm not afraid of you! I wasn't afraid of you when you were alive, so why would I be afraid of you now?"

Saying this, Scarlett instinctively pulled out her phone from her pocket and threw it at the likeness of Katherine standing there!

The phone passed right through Katherine's body and fell to the ground...

Scarlett was stunned. The Katherine in front of her had no physical form. Was she really seeing a ghost? "Katherine, you're already dead. Why don't you go to hell? Who are you trying to scare by lingering around?" she exclaimed frantically.

Katherine's ghost smiled lightly. Then it spoke, "I'm trying to scare you."

Scarlett took a deep breath and then, gathering her courage, snorted coldly, "You want to scare me? You'll just be disappointed! I'm quite brave; there's no way a ghost like you can scare me!"

Katherine's ghost frowned in frustration. "Really? I thought a pampered young lady like Miss Mitchell would be quite timid!" she mocked.

Seeing that Katherine's ghost was just standing there talking in a light voice and not coming closer, Scarlett's courage grew.

If Katherine had any real power as a ghost, she would have attacked Scarlett by now. Since she hadn't, it must mean she could only scare people, not harm them!

Clearing her throat, Scarlett said, "Katherine, stop wasting your energy. You can't scare me!"

Katherine sighed helplessly. "Alright! Since I can't scare Miss Mitchell, could you at least do me a favor and let me die with some clarity?"

Scarlett frowned in confusion and asked, "What do you mean, die with clarity?"

Katherine blinked her big eyes as she questioned nonchalantly, "I'm curious! Curious about how Miss Mitchell can be so good at pretending and manipulating those around her. What's most impressive is how everyone around you willingly lets you use them."

Scarlett glared at her and said disdainfully, "Katherine, stop showing off in front of me! The people around me used to love and care for me, but now they've all lost trust in me because of you!"

Katherine raised an eyebrow, intrigued. She retorted, "Because of me? Or was it a result of your actions? Scarlett, you've deceived and used your brother, your best friends, and your beloved man. Is there really no one in this world you truly care about?"

Scarlett laughed, throwing her head back in unrestrained laughter. "Of course, I care about people. I've always cared about each one of them!" she claimed.

Katherine's ghost narrowed her captivating eyes, staring at Scarlett's true character. She said sarcastically, "You care about them by using them?"

Scarlett crossed her arms in a victorious pose as she remarked, "Isn't human interaction all about mutual interest? Do you think they haven't used me? Katherine, even in death, you come here pretending to be virtuous. Who are you fooling?"

Katherine ignored her insults and asked, "But I've only seen you using others, not the other way around. What have they used you for?"

Scarlett said, "You're already dead, so mind your own business! Move aside, I want to leave. I don't want to waste time talking to a ghost!"

Katherine remained standing there. "Miss Mitchell, I'm already dead, and there's no one else here. Could you explain it to me? If I get a chance to be reborn, I want to learn from you on how to manipulate people effectively."

Scarlett was a bit impatient, but the thought of walking past a ghost made her somewhat frightened. "What exactly do you want to know?"

Katherine pressed patiently, "I want to know about Bernard, Sunny, Sophie, Alex, and Fiona. These people you've used, what did they use you for? From what I see, each of them genuinely cared for you."

Scarlett looked at Katherine's curious face and thought that if she didn't explain, Katherine's ghost might keep haunting her.

After thinking it over, Scarlett decided to reveal it all to her. After all, it was just a ghost; what was there to fear? "These people, they all seemed to care for me, but they each had their selfish motives and goals. They're no better than me!" she claimed.

Katherine raised an eyebrow, curiously, and probed, "For example?"

Scarlett snorted, "Take Bernard, for instance. He seemed to care for me, pamper me, be there for me, and would always rush to protect me no matter what. But in reality, he never truly cared for me!"

Katherine tilted her head in confusion. Continued to ask, "What do you mean? Mr. Mitchell seemed to value you a lot. He even ignored right and wrong for your sake, abandoning his principles."

Scarlett sneered, "That hypocritical man, he wasn't doing it for me! His heart only has room for his sister, who went missing when she was young! When I first moved in with my mom to the Mitchell family, Bernard ignored me completely. He wouldn't even look at me!"
