Chapter 432 Bernard Changed
Scarlett said, "Saffron's a great spice, and maybe the amount in that pomegranate juice wasn't too much for me. I felt fine, and all my tests came back normal."
Bernard replied, "Even if nothing showed up, get the test report so I can see it."
Scarlett didn't want to and subtly tugged Alice's hand.
Alice got the hint and said, "Bernard, I know you're worried, but if Scarlett says she's fine, she is. No need to see the report."
Bernard wasn't convinced. He frowned and insisted, "Get the report now. Don't make me repeat myself."
Why was Scarlett so hesitant to get the report when it was a simple task?
From the start, when Scarlett resisted the physical exam, Bernard sensed something was off but didn't dwell on it.
Now, seeing her odd behavior, his suspicion grew.
’Could the pomegranate juice have something other than saffron that only affects women? Was Scarlett scared of the test results?‘
'Even though Katherine just took a sip and spat it out, if there were other active ingredients, even minimal contact could affect a pregnant woman!'
The thought made Bernard anxious; he couldn't risk Katherine's health after getting her back.
Edwin didn't get Bernard's insistence but didn't want his kids fighting. He said, "Scarlett, Bernard cares about you. If he wants the report, just get it so he can relax."
Seeing Bernard's determination and her dad's words, Scarlett agreed. "Alright, I'll get it."
She left and came back ten minutes later with the report.
"Bernard, here it is! I'm really fine. Why don't you believe me?"
She handed the report to Bernard, looking upset.
Bernard glanced at her, took the report, and reviewed it. Everything was normal, and it was in Scarlett's name.
He asked softly, "If there's no problem, why were you reluctant to get it?"
Scarlett blinked her innocent eyes. "Bernard, I've been through a lot today. I'm exhausted. I felt weak after the blood draw."
"I just didn't want to make another trip to get the report because it felt far, but you insisted, so I went!"
"Bernard, don't you trust me anymore?"
She moved closer to Bernard, seeking comfort and trying to regain his support.
Bernard frowned, set the report aside, and gently pushed Scarlett away. "If you're tired, go rest on the couch."
Scarlett felt uneasy. Bernard had never treated her like this before.
Usually, a few tears would make him forgive her instantly. But now, it seemed like he didn't care anymore.
She grabbed his hand, eyes red. "Bernard, what's wrong? Do you hate me now?"
Bernard paused, caught off guard. He found her actions increasingly annoying, especially her tendency to use tears to manipulate.
He coldly shook off her hand. "No, don't overthink it. Go rest."
"Bernard..." Scarlett was frustrated. She had always used his affection to get what she wanted, and now she felt she was losing control.
She grabbed his hand again, trying to act cute. "Bernard, I feel dizzy from the blood draw. Can you sit next to me and let me lean on you for a while?"
Bernard wanted to refuse but hesitated when he saw her pitiful expression.
Just then, someone knocked on the door.
Bernard and Scarlett looked over.
Alice went to open it.
Katherine stood there, smiling faintly. "I'm back!"
With her was Alex, tall and handsome, focused on his phone.
Alice's face soured, forcing a smile. "Ms. Galatea, you haven't left yet? Is there something you need?"
Katherine explained. "I never said I was leaving. I just went out for some fresh air. Naturally, I came back! What? Mrs. Mitchell, you don't seem very welcoming?"
Alice forced a laugh, but before she could say more, Bernard quickly walked over and pushed her aside.
He opened the door wider and said warmly, "Katherine, come in."
Alice was stunned. Why was Bernard so enthusiastic about Katherine? This wasn't like him at all. He was usually aloof. What was special about Katherine?
Scarlett noticed too, frowning deeply. Her brother was becoming colder to her but warmer to Katherine.
Katherine walked in leisurely, seeing Scarlett, and smiled brightly. "Oh! Scarlett, you're back! Finished with your check-up?"
