Chapter 273 Whose Child Is It?
Alex told her he was off on a business trip for two weeks. In reality, he was with Scarlett and their kid!
He still made time to video call her every day, asking if she was eating well, sleeping well, and if she missed him.
Turned out, that didn't stop him from being with another woman every day!
Katherine felt like something was stuck in her throat, utterly disgusted.
Earlier, it was physical disgust; now, it was psychological!
She felt sick for ever believing Alex's sweet talk. Like a fool in love, she eagerly awaited his return, even dreaming of growing old together!
She was even more disgusted by his hypocritical face, saying those affectionate lies without blinking an eye!
Her mind was on the verge of collapse for a moment, but Katherine's face remained calm.
Forget it. Who hasn't made foolish decisions at some point?
It's all in the past!
Katherine adjusted her mindset and smiled. "Congratulations to you both. I hope you have a beautiful baby girl soon!"
Scarlett proudly patted her belly, beaming with happiness. "Katherine, you should understand that the child I'm carrying is the one Alex will recognize. If there's something in your belly, it would simply be illegitimate! Isn't it sad to have your child labeled as such from birth?"
Katherine laughed, not getting angry. "Miss Mitchell, you've already had two children, yet you still haven't married into the Melville family. I think that's more pitiful!"
"You!" Scarlett's smug face turned red with anger in a second.
She thought showing the pregnancy test would make Katherine look defeated, but she had no reaction and even smiled happily!
"Katherine, we'll see!" Scarlett finally gave up, gritting her teeth and throwing a harsh remark before storming off.
Katherine snorted, not taking her threats seriously at all.
People like Scarlett live to revolve around a man, desperately trying to hold onto his heart, always on edge.
Such women were the most boring!
Katherine's earlier disgust hadn't faded, so she went to the restroom to throw up again, rinsed her mouth, washed her face, and then came out of the ladies' room.
As soon as she stepped out, she saw a tall, slender man leaning lazily against the hallway wall, smoking a cigarette.
It was Alex.
Katherine ignored him. She walked past him without a glance.
"Whose is it?" asked Alex.
As she walked past, Alex's deep, cold voice stopped her, accompanied by a faint smell of tobacco.
Katherine stopped, stunned.
She turned her head to look at him, calm and natural. "Mr. Melville, are you talking to me?"
Alex squinted at her, his tone icy. "Is there another person here?"
Katherine looked around and inquired, "There really isn't! Alright, Mr. Melville, what did you just ask about?"
He scoffed, "Playing dumb?"
"Mr. Melville, you don't think I'm pregnant, too? Miss Mitchell just asked me the same thing!" she replied.
Alex stared into her cunning eyes, his long eyes filled with a ruthless light. "Are you sure you're not?"
Katherine laughed, chuckling for a while before looking at him with amusement. "Mr. Melville, that time was purely an emergency, no feelings involved. Do you really think it would be that accurate? One shot, one hit?"
The suspicion in Alex's eyes lingered as he scrutinized her for a long time. Seeing she wasn't guilty or nervous, he slowly exhaled a puff of smoke. The suspicion dissipated like the smoke, but not completely.
After a moment of silence, he asked again, "Where's your husband?"
Katherine was taken aback, almost forgetting she had a husband. Blinking unnaturally, she replied, "Him? At this time, he's at work, earning money to support the family!"
Alex fell silent again.
"Is Jonathan pursuing you?" he asked.
Hearing his question, Katherine was stunned again.
She didn't expect the topic to shift to Jonathan.
How to put it? Jonathan's behavior did suggest that, and if she denied it, it would seem like she was hiding something!
Katherine nodded frankly and responded, "He probably is!"
Alex sneered coldly, "Ms. Galatea already has a husband, and you can still accept other men's pursuits?"
Accept? Katherine frowned. Which eye of his saw her accepting?
She suddenly felt very unhappy and didn't want to answer properly!
Katherine rebutted, "I'm happt to. Okay?"
He looked at her without a trace of warmth, his eyes full of sarcasm. "I never realized before that Ms. Galatea is so voracious."
Katherine was speechless.
She had never realized before that Alex was such a player, juggling two relationships without missing a beat and even having a second child!
The more she talked, the angrier she got, and she didn't want to talk to him properly anymore!
"That's right! I‘m voracious, and I want to give every man in the world a home! So what? Mr. Melville, it seems you have no control over me, right?" she reprimanded.
Alex's brow furrowed. "Katherine, be a decent person."
Katherine was also very annoyed, deliberately laughing frivolously. "What? Mr. Melville, are you feeling unbalanced? Do you also want to have a place in my heart?"
Alex glared at her coldly, his eyes filled with anger and disdain for her reckless attitude!
Katherine snickered, leisurely stepping closer to him, standing on tiptoe, and provocatively said, "Sorry, Mr. Melville. A man like you, almost thirty, is a bit old for me. There's a generation gap!"
Saying this, she even took the half-smoked cigarette from his hand, flicking the ash provocatively in front of him. "Smoking's bad for your skin; you'll age faster!"
Alex's face suddenly darkened, the veins on his forehead bulging.
She really despised him for being old?
Because of the generation gap, did she find another man?
That Frank, indeed, was about her age, only a few years older, with no so-called generation gap!
Katherine exhaled and turned to leave, not wanting to talk to him anymore!
Alex stood there with a sullen face, watching Katherine's back, seeing her casually throw the half-smoked cigarette into the trash and stride back to the private room with an air of indifference!
His long eyes narrowed sharply again; was her vomiting really just a stomach issue?
Taking out his phone, he called Leander, coldly instructing, "Check if Katherine has visited any OB-GYN clinics recently."
