Chapter 1041 Curtis' Mockery
Late at night, when Bernard returned to the room, Christina had already fallen asleep holding the script.
After tucking her in, Bernard also went to bed and fell asleep.
Early the next morning, Bernard left for the company.
Not long after, Christina also got up.
Christina had a lot of scenes to shoot this morning, so she had to get up early and drink a cup of black coffee to reduce the swelling, otherwise, her face would still be puffy when the first scene started.
Although Curtis repeatedly told her that she looked good enough even without makeup for his movie, Christina still didn't dare to slack off. She was relatively inexperienced and wanted to present herself in the most perfect state to everyone.
At first, she never thought she could become an actress, but now Christina truly loved acting.
She liked to put all her effort into portraying another person. She loved standing in front of the camera, where she could forget all her worries, whether it was mounting debts or emotional troubles.
"Alright, let's go! Scene three, take one, Action!"
Curtis and the producer watched Christina through the camera; it was a rain scene.
Even though Christina repeatedly apologized for her slightly swollen face when she arrived in the morning, Curtis tirelessly reassured her that as long as she appeared in front of the camera, she was in perfect condition.
The camera told everything.
"Wow, it's been years since I've seen such a talented actress."
The producer sighed while taking out a cigarette. In their line of work, staying up all night was common, and sometimes they needed nicotine to stay awake.
Curtis's satisfaction was evident on his face. Finding a good actress like Christina was rarer than striking gold.
"Don't say years, the most important thing is that she's not acting; she completely becomes the character in front of the camera. Hey, no smoking, Mr. Mitchell has already informed us that Christina doesn't like the smell of smoke."
Hearing Bernard's name, the producer reluctantly put away the cigarette, satisfying his craving by fiddling with it.
Finding a good actress like Christina, and knowing she had strong backing, made them feel more at ease.
After all, artists without formal training could easily become a flash in the pan in this industry, which was something they didn't want to see.
Moreover, with Bernard as her solid backing, Christina's future was limitless!
"OK, cut, one take!"
As soon as the camera stopped, someone immediately went up to wipe the water off Christina, and she was surrounded to check the footage.
The producer couldn't help but smile and ask, "Has anyone counted how many times our leading lady Christina has passed Mr. Caldwell's scenes in one take?"
Passing other directors' scenes in one take was easy;
Passing Curtis's scenes in one take was hard;
Consistently passing Curtis's scenes in one take was even harder!
But Christina did it. Her scenes were shot quickly and accurately, so everyone didn't have to suffer along.
"That's why we all love shooting with Christina!"
Everyone laughed, and Christina also gave a shy smile, still somewhat uncomfortable in such situations.
She was very reserved, not knowing what to say to be just right.
"Oh! Ms. Pearl is here to deliver coffee again!"
Everyone knew Christina's personality and who was backing her. If she didn't want to socialize, who could force her?
The set became more lively as Virginia arrived with more goodies.
Everyone was filming in the same studio, and whenever Virginia had time, she would bring a bunch of stuff, claiming to be Christina's friend and asking everyone to take good care of Christina.
Today was no different.
"Oh my, isn't Mintz a coffee shop only in Skyview City? Ms. Pearl bought coffee from so far away?"
"If Ms. Pearl wants it, wouldn't the manager personally deliver it?"
Someone joked in the crowd. Virginia came to Christina's side, leaning on her shoulder with a very sweet smile.
"No, I knew the manager from abroad years ago. He's my friend, so he made an exception to deliver it to me. If you have time, please support Mintz offline, just to help out my friend!"
Virginia's approachable demeanor immediately got a response from many. "Don't worry, Virginia, next time I go to Skyview City, I'll definitely visit Mintz!"
"Mintz is so popular that even top celebrities have to wait in line. Do you think you can just walk in? Ms. Pearl is being polite! Her friend doesn't need our support!"
At this point, Virginia signaled her assistant to take the group to enjoy the coffee and desserts.
This made Christina seem even more socially awkward. Virginia never showed any hostility on set, but her fake friendliness made Christina even more uncomfortable.
Virginia pretended to be close, leaning on Christina's shoulder, and watched the playback. "Mr. Caldwell, no one bullied our Christina today, right?"
Curtis, being smart, had long seen through the fake friendship between the two. He quickly asked Christina to sit on the other side to avoid being uncomfortable with Virginia leaning on her.
"Christina is in the zone now, passing every scene in one take. Who could bully our excellent leading lady?"
Hearing that Christina passed Curtis's scenes in one take, Virginia's smile faltered, "Oh? Really? Mr. Caldwell, you didn't lower your standards because Christina is a newcomer, did you? Our Christina doesn't need any special treatment."
Christina couldn't help but look at her. What did she mean by that?
Was she implying that Christina's one-takes were because Curtis lowered his standards?
Virginia shrugged, still wearing that fake smile that was so annoying.
Curtis's face suddenly darkened. Whatever their personal issues were, they couldn't bring it into his work!
"Virginia, have you been in too many low-budget films? Most directors don't treat their work so carelessly."
Virginia's face stiffened, her smile almost faltering.
Was Curtis really defending Christina and mocking her for being in bad movies?
Who did he think he was?
Just because he was somewhat powerful, did he think he could disrespect her like this?
At this point, Virginia's assistant stepped in to ease the tension, taking her to the crew's side.
"Virginia, Mintz's desserts are really delicious. Thank you for thinking of us!"
Virginia immediately smiled and replied, "I'm glad you like them. I specifically asked my friend to prepare classic flavors to cater to more tastes. There are actually a few special ones, but I thought it would be safer to let everyone try the foolproof ones first!"
She spread her hands, looking a bit regretful, which made the staff think she was really nice.
"Ms. Pearl, it's great to work in the same studio with you!"
The staff kept praising Virginia.
Virginia happily nodded, "I'm happy too, to work with everyone. But please take good care of Christina. If she makes any mistakes, I apologize in advance. I'd appreciate it if you could be a bit forgiving for my sake."
