Chapter 563 Busy
Katherine blinked, totally floored. "For real?"
Alex wrapped her up in his arms, his chin resting on her head as he buried his face in her hair. "I busted my butt to get back here, and you won't even let me kiss you? Do you have any idea how tough that was for me?"
With Alex looking so genuine, Katherine's heart melted, and she bought it.
"Next time, can you at least let me know you're okay when you head out? I worry about you too, you know?" She tugged on his tie, pulled him down, stood on her tiptoes, and planted a kiss on him.
It all happened so fast. Alex was caught off guard for a sec, then a grin spread across his face as he kissed her back, almost hungrily.
Katherine was breathless, her head spinning. She'd started out in control, but somehow ended up totally swept away!
Meanwhile, lost in their kiss, they didn't notice someone watching from a distance.
Summer Villa was packed with all kinds of plants, mostly succulents.
Vincent was big on succulents, so they were everywhere in the garden.
Not far off, Bernard and Jonathan stood there, watching the couple make out, each with their own thoughts.
Bernard had always had a beef with the Melville family and couldn't stand Alex, his business rival. But Luara and Scarlett liked him, which made Bernard both pissed and helpless. He scowled, feeling the urge to punch something, but he knew he couldn't.
Jonathan watched Katherine stand on her tiptoes and wrap her arms around Alex's neck. His eyes darkened with a jealousy he'd never felt before. He'd never been this into any girl. The first time he met Katherine, he was drawn to her and went over to chat. But then he found out she was with Alex. He knew he should stay away, but he couldn't help himself. Every time he saw Katherine, he had to go over and say something... He knew Katherine didn't like him and even pushed him away, but he couldn't stop.
He thought a girl like Katherine wouldn't be into Alex either. But seeing this, he got it—Katherine loved Alex.
A girl who loved her freedom wouldn't stick around a guy unless she was really into him.
Like a bird wanting to fly, no tree could hold it back.
Jonathan had always been the one girls chased. He had plenty of dating experience, but he'd never really fallen for anyone. Now he felt it, but it came with a side of heartbreak.
Bernard clenched his fists, fighting the urge to go over and deck Alex. He decided to bail, not wanting to see any more.
As he turned to leave, he caught the heartbroken look on Jonathan's face, something he'd never seen before.
Bernard got it right away. He frowned and waved a hand in front of Jonathan's face. "Quit staring! She ain't yours anyway!"
Jonathan snapped out of it, feeling a bit embarrassed that Bernard had caught on. He shrugged and joked, "Bernard, don't be so harsh! What if Katherine stops liking Alex one day? I might still have a shot."
Bernard paused, frowning as he stared at him. "You serious?"
Jonathan smiled calmly. "Do I look like I'm joking? When have you ever seen me lose it over a woman like this?"
Bernard's eyes narrowed. "Just keep it together! You and Alex are friends, after all. It's not cool to keep messing with his wife!"
Jonathan shrugged. "They already think I'm a bad guy, so why should I care what they think?"
Bernard's eyes showed a hint of disdain. "They've been pretty patient with you. If it weren't for you hitting on Hilton's or Isaac's girlfriend back then, they wouldn't have any beef with you! The fact that they still consider you a friend shows they're pretty forgiving! If it were me, you'd be history by now."
Jonathan said innocently, "Hey! Bernard! Why are you bringing that up again? I explained it back then. I never touched Hilton's or Isaac's girlfriend. They came to me, saying Hilton and Issac weren't serious about them. I just comforted them a bit. Don't tell me you don't believe me either?"
Bernard rolled his eyes. "Do you usually ask women to take off their clothes when you comfort them?"
Jonathan laughed. "If I told you they did it themselves, would you believe me? And I really didn't touch those two women at all! Trust me, Bernard!"
Bernard turned around on his crutches. "With a friend like you, I'm worried my future wife will fall for you!"
Jonathan followed him with a cheeky grin. "Well, you need to have a wife first! Bernard! You should think about your own marriage! Look, your sister's married, and you're still single! Aren't you embarrassed?"
Bernard stopped and whacked him with his crutch. "Get lost! Mind your own business! With so many lovers, you still have the nerve to go after my sister? Even without Alex, I wouldn't let Katherine be with you!"
Jonathan dodged Bernard's hit and grinned. "Why not? Aren't I more gentle, interesting, and funny than Alex? Katherine would be happy with me for a lifetime!"
Bernard sneered. "Give me a break! Dealing with your lovers would be a nightmare!"
Jonathan laughed. "Look at you!"
That night, at Breaking Dawn Bar.
Frank saw Katherine walk in with Alex, his face darkened, and he sneered. "Mr. Melville, back in town?"
Alex replied, "Yeah, you need something from my wife?"
