Chapter 717 Not Qualified

Ambrosia saw him and didn't show any particular expression. She just adjusted her gold-rimmed glasses and said, "She's asleep now. Come back in a little while."

Sunny didn't insist on barging in. Instead, with a serious look, he asked, "Is she okay?"

Ambrosia considered the complicated situation and sighed slightly. "She's doing okay, I guess."

Sunny nodded sullenly and then turned around to sit on the waiting chair by the door.

This surprised Ambrosia a bit.

Why was he cooperating so easily today? This wasn't like his usual temper!

Squinting her eyes, she stared at Sunny for a while, then closed the door and went back to check on Katherine.

When she returned, Katherine was already awake, probably having heard the knock on the door earlier.

She opened her eyes, looking tired but hopeful, and asked in a weak, raspy voice, "Who was it?"

Ambrosia frowned slightly. "It's Sunny."

The light in Katherine's eyes gradually dimmed. She had just fallen asleep but hadn't slept well. "Ambrosia, what time is it now?"

Ambrosia checked the time. "It's a little past six in the evening."

Katherine murmured, "Got it."

Her voice was so laden with unease and disappointment that Ambrosia could easily hear it.

At this moment, there was another knock on the door of the hospital room.

Ambrosia turned around to open the door, and two nurses were there, each holding a baby.

She opened the door wide to let the two nurses in.

Just as she was about to close the door, she thought of Sunny at the door and paused, looking over at him.

By this time, Sunny had already noticed the nurses holding the babies and stood up.

He, tall and thin, was tiptoeing to get a look at the babies but was too shy to come closer.

Ambrosia said, "Katherine's awake. You can come in and see the babies too!"

Sunny was taken aback for a moment, then awkwardly walked into the hospital room with a serious face.

The two young nurses took turns holding the babies in front of Katherine for her to see.

Katherine, too weak to lift her arms, didn't dare to hold the babies for fear of dropping it.

Looking at the babies in their swaddles, her heart felt warm.

They were her babies, born from her own body. It was truly amazing.

Both were so small, with well-formed noses and eyes, already resembling their unreliable father!

Thinking of Alex, who had yet to show up, Katherine felt a heavy pressure in her chest, as if something was stuck there.

The two nurses, thinking it was about time, straightened up with the babies. "Alright, they can't be out of the incubator for too long. We'll bring them back for you to see tomorrow!"

Reluctantly, Katherine craned her neck to take one last look at her two babies before nodding in agreement for the nurses to take them back.

As the nurses left with the babies, Sunny, who had been standing quietly to the side, also craned his neck to take a good look at the two babies. They were so cute.

After the two nurses left, Katherine noticed Sunny and asked him, "Why are you alone? Where's Bernard?"

Sunny replied, "I rushed over as soon as I heard you were taken to the hospital. I didn't see Bernard!"

Katherine, exhausted, could only manage a weak response. "Okay."

Sunny moved a bit closer to Katherine and said earnestly, "Katherine, you're amazing, having twins!"

Katherine forced a faint smile, but said nothing.

Sunny, not knowing what had happened, looked around the hospital room and asked in confusion, "Where's Alex? Isn't he here?"

Hearing Alex's name, Katherine's expression darkened, and she sneered. "Who knows where he went?"

Sunny frowned and, with a sense of indignation, remarked, "You gave birth, and Alex isn't here? He's the father of the children; this is too irresponsible!"

Katherine's face grew even more tense.

Ambrosia, regretting having let Sunny in, cleared her throat and gently pulled him aside. "Alright, Katherine needs to rest now. Let's not discuss this further."

Sunny, as if electrocuted, immediately pulled away from Ambrosia's touch and moved a bit further away from her.

Ambrosia paused, surprised by Sunny's seemingly disdainful reaction. He used to be very willing to have physical contact with her.

Sunny felt Ambrosia's probing gaze and got a bit irritated. "Katherine, take good care of yourself! I'm going out now! I don't know what women need to eat after giving birth, but if you want anything, let me know, and I'll get it for you!"

Katherine nodded. "Okay, thanks! Nothing for now."

Sunny didn't ask more and turned to leave.

After he left, Ambrosia's gaze remained fixed on the door.

Sunny, after leaving, sat back on the waiting chair by the door, head down, lost in thought.

Suddenly, a pair of high heels appeared in his line of sight. He recognized them immediately; they were Ambrosia's.

Startled, he looked up at her and asked irritably, "What? Do you need something?"

Ambrosia frowned slightly, adjusted her gold-rimmed glasses that had slipped down due to her lowered head, and asked him, "What's wrong with you?"

Sunny snapped, "Nothing! I'm fine! Just sitting here keeping an eye on Katherine, who just had two babies! What's wrong with that? Is that not allowed?"

Ambrosia's frown deepened. He was acting very unusual today. Did something happen?

"Nothing's wrong. You can sit wherever you want," Ambrosia replied calmly.

Sunny glared at her. "Then stay away from me! Don't be in front of me!"

Ambrosia paused slightly, surprised that Sunny was telling her to stay away from him.

She chuckled lightly and sat down next to him. "Finally had a change of heart?"

Sunny didn't like Ambrosia's flippant attitude. "Change of heart? Please. Even if I did, I could never be as 'open-minded' as you."

His words were dripping with sarcasm.

Ambrosia wasn't offended; instead, she seemed a bit curious. "What's gotten into you today? It's not like you just found out how 'open-minded' I am."

Sunny felt a surge of anger just thinking about the naked man he had seen in Ambrosia's office.

But now he knew for sure. In her eyes, he had never been boyfriend material, not even close. He didn't even have the right to be jealous or furious!

Every time he lost his temper, she saw him as nothing more than a childish fool, a joke.
