Chapter 671 The Vengeance for Its Father
Sophia put on an exaggerated look of surprise and said, "Mr. Bernard Mitchell, got any proof? If not, you can't just throw accusations at me! I just wanted to see Katherine. Alex isn't around anymore, and as his long-time friend, I'm here to check on Katherine and the kid for him."
She even started to get a bit teary-eyed as she spoke.
Bernard, eager to get back to Katherine after fetching water, didn't want to waste any more time with her. "Enough. You're not welcome here, and Katherine doesn't want to see you."
Sophia then got all tough. "Mr. Bernard Mitchell, what's your deal with Katherine? What gives you the right to speak for her and stop me from seeing her?"
Bernard replied coldly, "Of course, I have that right. And as for my relationship with Katherine, that's none of your business."
With that, he strode into the water room.
He thought Sophia might follow him, but she was smart enough not to.
After quickly filling a pot of water, he came out and didn't see Sophia in the hallway.
Without hesitation, Bernard hurried back to Katherine's room.
But when he opened the door, Katherine was no longer in her bed, just a messy blanket left behind.
Seeing this, Bernard's eyes widened in shock. He dropped the water pot and quickly made a call to have the exits sealed and prevent Katherine from leaving!
Meanwhile, Katherine had already fled the hospital.
She was still in her hospital gown, having left in a hurry.
She hid at a distant intersection, panting as she took out her phone to call Frank. Suddenly, a red sports car pulled up in front of her!
Katherine froze for a moment, wary that it might be Bernard's people coming to take her back. She instinctively started to back away.
The car window slowly rolled down, revealing Sophia's seductive face.
Sophia said to her, "Katherine, get in the car. I'll take you to find Alex!"
Realizing it wasn't Bernard's people, Katherine felt a bit relieved but still didn't trust Sophia.
Sophia, sensing Katherine's hesitation, explained, "I know you probably want to call your friends Frank or Ambrosia to pick you up, right? But they won't take you to find Alex. Even if they come, they'll just take you back to the hospital!
Think about it, they knew what happened to Alex but kept it from you, just like Bernard. How could they possibly take you to find Alex?"
Katherine raised an eyebrow. "Then why do you want to take me?"
Sophia said, "Because I don't believe Alex is dead either. I want to go to the crime scene to find clues! But I can't understand a lot of the stuff there. If we go together, we might be more effective!"
As Katherine stared at Sophia, pondering, she heard Sunny's voice calling out. "Katherine! Come back! Don't run away! Come back!"
If she didn't get in the car, they'd take her back to the hospital!
Glancing at the approaching Sunny, Katherine didn't have time to think. She opened Sophia's car door and got in.
With her pregnant belly, Katherine wasn't as quick as she used to be and almost got caught by Sunny. Luckily, Sophia hit the gas and sped away, leaving Sunny in the dust.
Sitting in the car, Katherine took a moment to catch her breath, then stayed quiet. Sophia glanced over at her. "Katherine, why so silent? Aren't you gonna ask where we're headed?"
Katherine stared straight ahead, not even looking at Sophia. "Didn't you just say we're going to the crime scene to find clues?"
Sophia asked, curious, "Aren't you scared?"
Katherine replied flatly, "If you're scared, get out, lend me the car, and give me the address. I'll drive."
Sophia paused for a moment. "I'm not scared. I believe Alex is still alive and I want to save him! For him, I'm not afraid of anything!"
Katherine said, "Then stop talking and focus on driving."
Sophia glanced at Katherine's round belly, thinking that Katherine seemed to be ignoring her own body and the baby inside her.
Despite Katherine's tough words, it was clear she still cared about Alex deep down.
Sophia had guessed Katherine would try to escape while Bernard was fetching water, so she had deliberately stalled Bernard to buy Katherine some time.
Knowing Katherine must be overwhelmed after hearing about Alex, Sophia didn't push her further and drove quietly, heading towards the abandoned factory in the suburbs.
In the suburbs, the factory was blown to ruins.
Looking at the scene, you could imagine the power of the explosion.
After getting out of the car, Katherine's anxiety spiked as she looked at the wreckage before her.
If Alex had been near this heavy industrial factory, the chances of survival were slim.
"Are you sure Alex was really here? Even if his car and documents were found, it doesn't mean he was!" Katherine, still in the dark about the details, asked Sophia.
Sophia replied, "Katherine, I hope Alex wasn't here too. But the police checked the road surveillance and saw Alex in the car. He even stopped at a service area to rest."
Katherine frowned. "Have the police figured out what happened? Why would Alex suddenly come to such a deserted place?"
Even if, as Bernard said, Alex's half-brothers were causing trouble, Alex was too smart to walk into a trap!
Sophia shook her head. "No one knows why Alex came here! The police only found Alex's documents and a destroyed phone on the disfigured body. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation. During the day, the police will be here to investigate. We can only come at night to look around."
Katherine was silent for a long time. So, Alex hadn't responded to her messages because he was in trouble.
The pain in her heart was almost unbearable.
But now wasn't the time for pain. She needed to find clues quickly. If Alex had indeed been murdered, she couldn't let the killer go free for her child's sake.
After taking a deep breath, Katherine walked slowly towards the ruins, turned on her phone's flashlight, and began searching for clues.
