Chapter 323 Whose Luxury Car Did Katherine Get Into!
The cabbie was at a loss.
"Look at their car and look at mine! Even if I floor it, there's no way this old heap can catch up to that million-dollar luxury ride!"
Sunny's handsome face twisted in frustration. He knew the car ahead was a luxury vehicle, but this wasn't just any luxury car. It was BG's centennial edition "Carnival," a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Bernard had tried to buy it but was beaten to the punch by a mysterious buyer.
Seeing Katherine get into that exclusive Carnival right after leaving the airport was baffling to Sunny. How did she know the owner? What was their relationship?
He had to follow her and find out who she was meeting in K City and what she was up to.
Sunny decided not to push the cabbie too hard and waved his hand. "Alright, alright! Just don't lose them!"
The cabbie nodded. "Got it!"
But then, a loud bang shook the taxi. The driver hit the brakes and checked the rearview mirror. They'd been rear-ended. He got out to confront the other driver.
"How do you manage to rear-end me on such a wide road? Do you even know how to drive?"
The other driver, a burly guy, got out with a bad attitude. "Who are you talking to? So what if I hit you?"
The cabbie was furious. "You hit my car and you're acting tough? What's wrong with you?"
The burly man raised his chin. "Your car should've moved out of my way!"
"What? Do you have eyes in the back of your head?"
"I hit your car, and I can pay for it! How much could your junk be worth? Why are you yelling at me?"
The cabbie felt humiliated. "You..."
Sunny watched as the Carnival got farther away. He got out of the car, anxious. "Hey! Can we stop arguing? Hurry up and settle this so we can get back on the road. The car ahead is getting away!"
The cabbie was now very angry. "Sorry, but I have to deal with this accident. You'll have to find another taxi."
Sunny was exasperated. "What?!"
Another taxi? They were miles from the airport, in the middle of nowhere. Where was he supposed to find another taxi?
Sunny tried to mediate. "Sir, don't argue with him. I'll cover your repair costs. Just get me to catch up with that car!"
The driver insisted. "It's not about the money! This guy is completely unreasonable. He rear-ended my car and is still acting tough! I need the cops to come and teach this scumbag a lesson!"
The burly man stepped forward, puffing out his chest. "Who are you calling a scumbag?"
The cabbie didn't back down. "Yeah, I'm talking about you, scumbag!"
"You dare insult me!" And they started arguing again.
Sunny watched them, feeling utterly speechless. It seemed hopeless to rely on this driver to catch up with Katherine. Sigh.
He looked around with little hope. No taxis in sight. Where was he supposed to find one?
Just then, a red two-seater sports car slowed down and stopped in front of him. The driver was a woman with lazy, mid-length curly hair, wearing a plain silk camisole dress, with exquisite makeup and bright red lips.
She smiled seductively at him, her eyes full of charm. "What's going on? Did you have an accident?"
Sunny, feeling annoyed, snapped, "Can't you see it?"
The woman wasn't offended and smiled again. "It's hard to find a taxi here. Where are you headed? Want a ride?"
Sunny was stunned. Was there really such a good thing?
He looked at the woman's car, a convertible sports car, much faster than a taxi. Maybe he could still catch up with Katherine in this car!
Thinking of this, Sunny nodded without hesitation. "Alright! Thanks for the ride!"
He walked to the passenger side and got in arrogantly.
The woman, Ambrosia, wasn't annoyed by Sunny's rude attitude. She flirtatiously tossed her hair. "Boy, you haven't told me where you're going."
Sunny crossed his arms. "Just help me catch up to that Carnival ahead!"
Ambrosia's lips curled mysteriously. "Alright, hold on tight, kid!"
With a stomp on the gas pedal, the sports car practically flew off!
Luckily, Sunny had fastened his seatbelt, or he would've been thrown out. Damn! He didn't expect this woman to drive so aggressively!
But aggressive was good; the faster they went, the better the chance of catching up to Katherine's car!
Meanwhile, after the red sports car drove off, the burly man stopped arguing with the cabbie, put away his arrogant expression, and shut his mouth.
The cabbie, seeing the sudden change, felt it was pointless to keep arguing. He took out his phone to call the police. "Just wait, I'm calling the cops to deal with you, you unrepentant troublemaker!"
Unexpectedly, the burly man suddenly changed his attitude, lowered his head, and said, "I'm really sorry. I lost my temper and said some rude things. I apologize. Here's some money for the repair costs and any trouble I caused. I hope you can forgive me."
He handed over a check with the amount already filled in.
The driver's attitude change left the cabbie bewildered, wondering if he was hallucinating.
He took the check and looked at it, his eyes widening in surprise. It was no small amount, enough to cover a year's worth of driving!
"Have you really realized your mistake?" the cabbie questioned.
The burly man looked sincere. "Yes, I promise it won't happen again."
The cabbie wasn't one to hold a grudge, and seeing the sincerity in the compensation, he relented. "Alright, I'll forgive you this time! But be careful when driving in the future, don't be so reckless! And... huh? Where'd he go?"
He had intended to lecture the man with his twenty years of driving experience, but when he looked up, the burly man was already gone, having driven off.
The cabbie looked at the check in his hand, scratched his head, and muttered, "What the heck just happened?"
