Chapter 105 Mrs. Melville Was Fine
Seeing Leander, Katherine frowned and questioned, "How did Alex know I was in the hospital?"
This morning, Alex had only dropped her off at the Galatea Family's entrance.
Could Alex have sent someone to follow her?
Leander explained, "Because you have Mr. Melville's phone so that he can track its location."
Katherine looked down at Alex's phone in her hand, feeling a bit annoyed at being remotely monitored.
Leander continued, "Mrs. Melville, Mr. Melville also knows you called an ambulance, but because there's an important meeting at the company today, Mr. Melville couldn't leave. So he sent me to check on you."
"I'm fine. It's my stepmother who got hurt," she answered.
"Mrs. Melville, it's good to know you're okay," Leander said politely.
Leander's repeated use of "Mrs. Melville" made Katherine feel uncomfortable.
She remembered that before this, Leander always called her "Ms. Galatea". She wondered why he suddenly changed.
Katherine didn't bother to delve into the matter of a title and asked indifferently, "Where did Alex ask you to take me?"
Leander replied, "We're not going anywhere else. Mr. Melville just instructed me to safely take you home."
It seemed that last night's kidnapping incident had made Alex very cautious.
"Then let's go!" Katherine nodded, glad she didn't have to take Uber.
She was exhausted and just wanted to go home and sleep!
As the car drove along, Katherine rested her chin on her hand, staring out the window at the passing scenery, lost in thought.
Frank's revelation today that she wasn't Joshua's biological daughter had left a lingering impact on Katherine.
If she wasn't Joshua's daughter and didn't belong to the Galatea family, then whose child was she?
Who was her biological father? Why did he abandon her and her mother?
Why did Joshua take her in back then? What was his motive for raising a child who wasn't his own?
Moreover, Joshua didn't want to raise her. Shortly after taking her in, he sent her to the countryside!
These questions formed a huge mystery that swirled in Katherine's mind.
By the time the car arrived at the Melville Manor, Katherine had fallen asleep in the car.
Leander carefully called her, "Mrs. Melville, wake up! We're here."
Katherine rubbed her eyes awake and looked out the window to confirm they were at the Melville Manor. Unbuckling her seatbelt, she got out of the car.
Leander quickly followed her out of the car, calling, "Mrs. Melville, please wait!"
Katherine stopped, sleepily turning her head to ask, "What is it?"
Leander walked to the back of the car and opened the trunk. "Mr. Melville has something for you. Please come and see if these are what you wanted."
‘What could it be?’ Katherine thought.
Katherine raised an eyebrow suspiciously and walked over to see three exquisitely packaged picture frames in the trunk. They were the three paintings from Jonathan's gallery, her mother's works!
Leander explained, "Mrs. Melville, Mr. Melville bought these three paintings for you. Are these the ones you wanted?"
Katherine was stunned for a moment, then came to her senses. "Yes, they are! But how did Alex get them? Didn't Jonathan say they weren't for sale?"
Leander replied, "Mr. Mostow and Mr. Melville have been old friends for many years. Many of The Moscow Group's businesses rely on cooperation with the Melville Group. He had to respect Mr. Melville."
That made sense!
Katherine lovingly touched the paintings, feeling a wave of emotion as if she could feel her mother's long-lost warmth.
So this was what Alex meant when he said he wouldn't let her down this morning!
It was a fair exchange, not bad at all. At least these paintings were indeed what she wanted.
"Alright, please thank Mr. Melville for me!" she said lightly.
With that, Katherine rang the doorbell of the Melville Manor, asking the butler to send someone to help bring the three paintings inside.
Leander glanced at his phone and then looked up to ask, "Mrs. Melville, Mr. Melville also wants to know what you'd like for dinner tonight?"
Katherine was taken aback. "Hmm? Is Alex coming back for dinner tonight?"
Leander nodded and responded, "It seems so."
Katherine frowned in displeasure, thinking that with Ms. Melville not at home to supervise them, why would Alex come back?
"Whatever, I'm not picky!" she then said.
Following Mr. Melville's instructions, Leander watched Katherine safely enter the Melville Manor before getting back in the car and leaving.
Meanwhile, at the Melville Group.
Alex, having just finished a meeting, leaned lazily in his chair, tiredly rubbing his temples.
The secretary knocked on the door and respectfully asked, "Mr. Melville, Mr. Mitchell from the Mitchell family came to see you earlier. He's been waiting in the guest room for an hour."
Alex raised his eyes indifferently. "Let him in."
"Yes, sir!" she then answered.
Soon, the female secretary brought Sunny to the door of the CEO's office.
Sunny walked into the office with large strides, immediately observing Alex as if looking for clues.
"Alex, are you alright? What happened last night?" he asked.
Alex was reviewing a folder. Upon hearing this, he raised an eyebrow and glanced at him. "What do you think happened to me?"
Sunny frowned in frustration and said, "I don't know! Last night, Katherine called me from your phone, saying you needed Scarlett's help. I told her Scarlett was abroad, but she wouldn't say what it was about and just hung up! Alex, what happened last night that you needed Scarlett's help?"
Alex recalled Katherine's infuriating behavior of trying to find women for him last night, and his expression darkened. "How does Katherine know about your sister?"
Sunny replied seriously, "I told her! I warned her not to have any improper thoughts about you and told her you could only be Scarlett's man!"
Alex frowned, his cold eyes fixed on Sunny, and sternly said, "Don't talk nonsense in front of her again."
Sunny stubbornly retorted, "I'm not wrong! Alex, have you forgotten that Scarlett has always been waiting for you? You and Scarlett..."
"Sunny's here too! On break, huh? Great, join us for some fun!" Hilton suddenly walked in, unintentionally interrupting Sunny.
At the mention of fun, Sunny immediately perked up, forgetting what he had been concerned about.
He widened his handsome eyes and curiously asked, "Hilton, where are we going to have fun?"
Hilton laughed heartily. "It's been a while since we went to Zephyr Meadows. My horse, Kidd, must be missing me! The weather's been great lately, perfect for a couple of days of fun!"
Kidd was the name of Hilton's horse.
Sunny lit up his eyes. "Horseback riding! I'm in!"
Hilton smiled and then nodded toward Alex, who was sitting behind his desk. "Alex, come on?"
Alex kept his eyes on the document, unmoved. "You guys go. I am not available."
Hilton clicked his tongue. "How can you not have time? Tomorrow's the weekend, you don't have to work! By the way, why don't you bring Katherine along? You two haven't gone on a honeymoon since getting married. This could be a great opportunity to take her out and have some fun!"
