Chapter 120 Have We Met Before?

Katherine clung tightly to Alex's arm, shaking him. "Alex! Hey, wake up, don't scare me."

He closed his eyes to rest, remaining silent for a minute before speaking indifferently, "Why did you stop what you were doing just now?"

What was she doing just now?

Katherine quickly understood the meaning behind Alex's words, her mouth twitching uncontrollably in disdain. "Don't try to take advantage of me!"

Realizing Alex had tricked her, Katherine was quite annoyed. She shoved the remaining cup of water in front of him, saying irritably, "Drink it yourself! I went through all the trouble to bring you this water, and if you don't drink it soon, it'll all be gone!"

He wasn't thirsty.

But since Katherine had rarely shown such kindness by bringing him water, he had to drink it.

Alex opened his charming eyes, raised his hand to take the reed leaf cup Katherine handed him, and tilted his head back to drink the remaining half cup of water in one gulp.

Then, as though a realization suddenly struck him, he fixated on the now-empty reed leaf cup in his grasp, his dark pupils contracting in contemplation.

"Katherine, have we met somewhere before?" he asked.

Katherine sat nearby, hugging her knees, looking small and fragile.

Hearing this, she thought Alex was teasing her again and rolled her eyes. "Alex, stop pretending to have amnesia. It's really boring!"

But Alex was serious, very serious. "I mean, a long time ago. Have we met somewhere before?"

Hearing the particularly serious tone in Alex's voice, Katherine looked at him with a strange expression.

"Probably not! Before I turned eighteen, I lived in a remote, impoverished area. How could I have had the chance to meet someone like you, a rich young master?" she answered.

Alex squinted his eyes slightly, a look of intricate emotion residing within them.

Ten years ago, he went to the countryside to inspect the group's poverty alleviation projects in poor areas but was ambushed by enemies on the way and severely injured.

In an emergency, he hid in a mountain village forest, waiting for his subordinates to rescue him.

While waiting in the forest, he lost consciousness due to excessive blood loss, and the smell of blood attracted a venomous snake that bit him!

That day, he almost lost his life, but a little girl passing by saved him. The girl was young, about ten years old, but she acted calmly and maturely, methodically.

She first used a hair tie to tightly bind his arm to prevent the venom from spreading through his bloodstream. Then, she sucked the venom out of his wound with her mouth and spat it out. She found a type of herb in the surrounding grass, chewed it up, and applied it to his snake bite.

The girl told him that where there were snakes, there were usually herbs that could counteract snake venom, and these herbs could neutralize most snake venoms.

Afterward, the girl used her handkerchief to bandage another wound on his body.

Because there was still some residual snake venom in his system, his vision was temporarily impaired, and he couldn't see the girl's face clearly.

For the next three days, the girl would pass by the forest every day, bringing him a whole wheat bread and pouring a cup of water from her bottle to share with him.

The girl used a reed leaf to fold a cup to hold the water.

The day his subordinates found him, the girl hadn't arrived yet, and he had urgent matters to attend to, so he couldn't wait for her. He left one of his subordinates there to wait for the girl.

He left a string of crystal stones, a protective charm given to him by his mother, with his man, instructing him to give it to the girl who saved his life as a token. He also told her that if she ever needed help, she could always go to the Melville Group in Janetrick to find him.

He took with him a reed leaf cup the girl had made as a keepsake.

Not long after, a girl came to the Melville Group with that string of beads to find him.

It was then that he learned the girl who saved him was actually Scarlett Mitchell, the second daughter of the Mitchell family, who happened to be vacationing at a summer resort in the countryside during those days.

However, the reed leaf cup soon withered and lost its shape, and a servant at his home threw it away while cleaning his room.

Coincidentally, Katherine also knew how to fold such a cup from reed leaves.

"Alex, someone is coming!" she called out.

Katherine's voice brought Alex back to reality. He lifted his sharp gaze and saw flashlight beams sweeping across the cave entrance, accompanied by the sound of helicopter rotors approaching from a distance.

Alex stood up, holding Katherine's hand, and they went to the cave entrance to check the situation.

A helicopter was flying low, circling in the valley, with someone on board shining a flashlight around in search.

It must be the rescue team!

Katherine raised her phone, with the flashlight function on, and waved it towards the helicopter to signal their location.

The people on the helicopter saw the flashing light below, adjusted their direction, and slowly descended.

The cabin door opened, and Hilton and Issac jumped out of the helicopter one after the other.

"Alex, Katherine, are you two okay? Are you hurt?" Hilton quickly approached, shining his flashlight over them from head to toe, checking their condition.

Katherine shook her head and then replied, "We're fine."

Alex gave Hilton a cold look. "Did you finish your dinner up there before you remembered to come down and rescue us?"

Issac walked over to explain, "Alex, the rescue team got stuck in traffic on the mountain. We arranged for a helicopter to pick them up, but our helicopters are too large to fly in the valley. Hilton had to borrow a smaller helicopter, which caused the delay."

Hilton nodded helplessly. "Yeah! I had to ask around a lot before I could borrow this small helicopter. None of us would usually buy such a small, crappy helicopter to play with!"

Alex pinched the bridge of his nose. "Alright, let's get up there first."

With that, he put his arm around Katherine's shoulder, leading her to the front to let her board the helicopter first.

At that moment, the cave echoed with the wailing of the brown bear.

Katherine heard the bear's cry, looked back at the cave entrance, and then looked down at Alex. "Alex, it..."

"Yeah, I know." Alex understood her meaning immediately. He turned to Hilton and said, "There's another one inside. Bring it along, too."

Hilton looked puzzled. "Another one? Weren't there just the two of you? Who else is there?"

A few minutes later, the rescue team carried out an injured brown bear from the cave.

Hilton smirked and teased, "Alex, when did you, the iron-fisted killer, become so compassionate, even rescuing wild animals?"

Alex's expression remained indifferent. "Katherine likes it. We'll take it back, let her keep it for a few days, and then release it."

Hilton looked at his friend of over twenty years with amazement and couldn't help but admire him. "Wow, so considerate! You're practically the best husband in the world!"

"Shut up." Alex shot him a cold glance and stepped onto the helicopter.

Hilton shrugged and followed him up.

Once everyone was on board, the helicopter took off from the valley.

They reached the cliff.

As soon as Katherine stepped out of the helicopter, Teresa rushed over, crying and hugging her. "Katherine, thank goodness you're okay. You are freaking me out."
