Chapter 155 Those Who Hurt My Sister, Die!
Sophie, having experienced Katherine's cunning firsthand, could feel her anger mounting as she listened to the police's frustration with Katherine. She muttered a curse under her breath, 'That Katherine, she's nothing but evil and sly!'
Sunny frowned, disapproving of Sophie's words. "Sophie, don't jump to conclusions. What if it wasn't Katherine?"
Sophie was taken aback and looked at Sunny incredulously. "Sunny! Katherine hurt Scarlett this time. How can you not support Scarlett and instead speak up for Katherine?"
She didn't dare argue with Alex, but did she have to hold back with Sunny, too?
Sunny furrowed her brows in frustration. "Sophie, don't slander me. No matter what happens, my heart is always with Scarlett! I don't think Katherine is the kind of girl who would resort to such vicious means. Besides, you've falsely accused her several times before!"
Sophie opened her mouth but suddenly found herself speechless. After all, before Scarlett returned, she had indeed been in the wrong with the things she did.
But wasn't her intention to help Scarlett? She just wanted to get rid of Katherine, the troublesome rival, to prevent future problems!
Unfortunately, she never succeeded even once.
Looking at Sunny, who couldn't distinguish between friend and foe, Sophie felt a pang of frustration and could only vent to her best friend, "Scarlett, I think your brother is a lost cause, always thinking of others instead of his own family!"
Scarlett seemed lost in thought but snapped back to reality when Sophie called her name. She smiled understandingly. "No, Sunny is a kind-hearted kid. I understand him. He doesn't want to think badly of people, and I'm the same way."
Sunny nodded.
Sophie held her forehead in exasperation.
They were just too pure and kind-hearted!
Scarlett wasn't in a hurry, but Sophie couldn't just watch Katherine get away with it!
So, Sophie asked the police again, "Sir, is there any evidence that can prove Katherine's guilt?"
The police officer shook his head regretfully. "Unfortunately, we don't have any valid evidence at the moment. Unless there's surveillance footage or someone caught Katherine meeting with the criminal Ethan Davis. But if they were planning a crime, they wouldn't meet in a public place with cameras. The chances of a passerby capturing it are even lower. So, it's very difficult."
Hearing that evidence was hard to come by, Sophie wished she could convict Katherine right then and there!
"If you don't have enough evidence, then take off her handcuffs," Alex, who had been silent, finally spoke, his tone calm and authoritative.
The police officer, sweating and looking troubled, glanced at Alex hesitantly. "Mr. Melville, this..."
They couldn't afford to offend Mr. Melville, but Mr. Mitchell had also emphasized not to let the suspect go easily. They were caught between a rock and a hard place.
"Who said there's not enough evidence?" Bernard's clear voice suddenly came from the elevator entrance.
Hearing the voice, Sophie immediately looked over, her eyes lighting up. "Bernard!"
Bernard walked over with a leisurely stride, exuding an aura of nobility that was no less imposing than Alex's.
Seeing her brother arrive, Scarlett felt reassured but still obediently stood by Alex's side, not wanting to leave.
Sunny stood in awe upon seeing Bernard and instinctively felt nervous, wanting to run away to avoid being scolded.
Sophie, on the other hand, greeted him warmly, "Bernard, you came just in time! The police said they needed corroborating evidence to prove Katherine met with the thug who attacked Scarlett before they could charge her. But they don't have any..."
Bernard raised an elegant eyebrow, "Who said there's no evidence?"
Sophie was taken aback, her eyes filled with confusion. "There is? Bernard, do you know where the evidence is?"
"I am the witness!" Bernard's tone was calm yet powerful. "The night before last, I happened to see Ms. Galatea and Ethan together by Whispering Ripple."
Bernard walked to the center of the group, paused, and politely nodded to the police in greeting. Then, he looked at Alex, his demeanor humble but his stance unyielding.
Bernard stated, "Alex, I'm sorry, but this involves Scarlett's safety. I have to intervene."
Alex narrowed his eyes at Bernard, a dangerous glint forming in his gaze, his lips curling slightly. "So, Mr. Mitchell, you're here to be a false witness without any bottom line?"
Bernard frowned, then smiled politely. "Alex, you're underestimating me! What I just said is the truth. I won't be a false witness, and no one can harm Scarlett under my watch and get away with it. No matter who they are or whose wife they are!"
The tension between the two men was palpable, on the verge of exploding.
The Mitchell and Melville families had a long-standing feud. Scarlett didn't want Bernard and Alex to clash, as it would only drive her and Alex further apart.
So, Scarlett threw herself into Bernard's arms, pleading, "Bernard, let it go. Katherine is Alex's wife, after all. I think..."
Bernard naturally embraced his sister, gently stroking her hair as he spoke softly but firmly, "Scarlett, if there's a first time, there will be a second. I can't let you be in any danger, so this matter can't be brushed aside!"
Scarlett was his half-sister. Although his relationship with his stepmother was average, he transferred his feelings of regret for his full sister onto Scarlett because his full sister had gone missing when she was young.
Bernard couldn't bear to see this sister suffer any harm!
Alex looked at Bernard calmly and asked, "Mr. Mitchell, are you determined to risk falsely accusing my innocent wife?"
Bernard explained, "Alex, if it were anyone else, I wouldn't waste time searching for evidence. It's precisely because Katherine is your wife that I'm willing to spend time explaining to you! Whether I'm wrong or you misjudged her, we'll find out once we confront her."
Bernard, confident and composed, then turned to the police and asked, "Sir, as a witness, I should be allowed to confront the suspect, right?"
The police, still a bit stunned, quickly nodded. "Y-yes, you can!"
