Chapter 1012 Didn't Prepare a Gift
Everyone was exceptionally happy, some drinking and some singing. Virginia sat beside Bernard, chatting freely with the people around her.
Christina watched her, feeling a bit envious.
She could never be like Virginia, able to chat pleasantly with everyone, so poised and confident.
In front of strangers, she would unconsciously feel uneasy.
Bernard, surrounded by people, unconsciously noticed Christina sitting alone in the corner, her head down and looking gloomy.
Bernard squinted his eyes as he looked at her.
Originally, when Hellen mentioned the movie tickets, Bernard didn't want to go with Christina.
They weren't a couple, so there was no need to do such things.
But since Hellen had already bought the tickets, he couldn't disappoint her. Since he agreed, he genuinely wanted to watch the movie with Christina. He just didn't expect Virginia to prepare a birthday surprise for him at this time.
It was normal for Christina to feel disappointed. Anyone would be upset if plans suddenly changed.
Watching her from afar, Bernard suddenly stood up and walked over to Christina. "Let's go."
Christina slowly stood up, looking a bit dazed. "Go? Where to?"
"Do you want to stay here?" Bernard's rhetorical question didn't need an answer. He grabbed her hand, ready to leave.
Seeing this, Virginia's expression turned cold. "Bernard, where are you going?"
She walked towards them, her eyes fixed on their clasped hands. "Bernard, today is your birthday. I planned this celebration for a long time. If you leave now, what are we celebrating?"
Bernard looked around, "Thank you for the celebration you prepared for me today, but I need to spend some time alone with my wife now. Everyone, please continue to enjoy yourselves. All expenses today are on me, so don't hold back."
The phrase "alone time" already stung her. Seeing that he was really leaving, Virginia called out again, "Bernard, where are you and Ms. Russell going to celebrate?"
Christina felt extremely awkward, as if Virginia's gaze could burn her: "Bernard, maybe you should stay and celebrate with everyone."
She tried to pull her hand away from Bernard's, but his grip was too strong. No matter how she moved, she couldn't break free!
"It's not convenient to disclose where we're going. You all have fun." Bernard insisted, pulling Christina out of the private room.
Virginia turned around, watching them leave, her eyes filled with anger.
"Virginia, are we..." Everyone looked at Bernard leaving, their expressions very tense, afraid that Virginia would get angry.
Hearing others' voices, Virginia quickly composed herself and turned around with a smile. "It's okay, Bernard has something to deal with. Let's continue having fun."
With Virginia's words, everyone relaxed and started having fun again.
Watching everyone having fun again, Virginia sat in the corner where Christina had been, holding a glass of wine and swirling it.
When she first saw Christina at the party, she didn't take her seriously.
It seemed she had underestimated Christina.
Bernard pulled Christina out of the club, and she was still a bit dazed when they reached the car. "Bernard, you just left like that. Won't Ms. Pearl be angry?"
"Aren't you angry?" Bernard looked down at her, "Why don't you express your feelings and only care about others' feelings?"
His words left Christina a bit confused. She wasn't angry.
"Wait. Why do you think I'm angry?"
Bernard tilted his head, giving a look that clearly said, "Aren't you?"
"I'm really not angry." Christina smiled helplessly, "I just don't know everyone, so I don't know how to fit in. I'm really not angry."
No matter what she said, Bernard had already pulled her out of the club, so there was no going back.
"Get in the car." Bernard opened the back door, pushed her in, and got in from the other side. The driver was already in the car, ready to go, and started driving once they were seated.
Christina wanted to explain but felt it was useless, so she remained silent.
Bernard had the driver take them back to the cinema and pulled Christina upstairs.
"Buy tickets for the next showing of this movie." Bernard bought tickets for the next showing of the movie they had missed earlier and handed them to Christina.
Christina took the tickets, feeling a bit distressed about the money spent. "Bernard, you're really wasting money."
If they missed the movie, they could watch it online later. There was no need to spend money again. The movie wasn't even that good.
Bernard seemed a bit impatient with her nagging. "Do you want to watch it or not?"
He glared at Christina, and she didn't dare say another word. "Yes, of course."
If she said no now, Bernard would probably leave.
Then the tickets would be wasted again, and Christina couldn't let that happen.
The movie started at 11:40 PM, and there were no other people in the theater besides them.
In the quiet cinema, only the sound of the movie and their breathing could be heard.
Christina felt a bit nervous, unable to focus on the movie with so much on her mind.
She looked at her phone. It was already 11:50 PM.
It was almost midnight, and after midnight, it wouldn't be Bernard's birthday anymore.
Although she didn't know his birthday in advance, now that she knew, Christina couldn't pretend she didn't.
"Bernard." Christina spoke softly, turning to look at him, "I'm sorry, I didn't know today was your birthday until Ms. Pearl celebrated it for you."
Bernard slowly turned to her.
Their eyes met, and the dim environment made the atmosphere between them a bit ambiguous.
Christina felt nervous under his gaze and lowered her eyes. "Bernard, it's not midnight yet, so it's still your birthday. Happy birthday."
He had heard many birthday wishes today, but none felt as special as this one.
Bernard looked at her, his eyes softening. "Thank you. So, where's my gift?"
"Well," Christina looked at him, frowning slightly, feeling a bit troubled, "I just found out, so I didn't prepare a gift for you."
