Chapter 325 The Couple Meets While Wearing Masks

Katherine followed the receptionist into the Eden International Private Club.

The conference was on the top floor. Katherine took the elevator up, and the whole process was highly secure to keep out intruders and protect members' privacy.

When they arrived, the receptionist greeted them and left.

Katherine walked in alone.

The lighting was dim, unlike the usual bright banquet halls.

Everyone here was anonymous, sharing tech knowledge without revealing their identities.

The dim lights helped hide features that masks couldn't cover, like eyes.

The place was buzzing, more like a masquerade than a forum. Everyone was dressed similarly, fully geared up, and wearing matching masks.

In the center, small groups chatted and drank. Further in, someone was on a small stage discussing new systems and tech.

"Look! That code... it's Rabbit!"

"Rabbit's here too!"

"Rabbit's been quiet lately. Remember when he hacked Eclarias' defense system just to change their slogans?"

"That's wild!"

Katherine smiled and found a quiet spot to listen to the stage presentation.

Slides showed recent technical challenges.

After a while, Katherine got a bit sleepy. She looked around for something interesting.

People whispered around her.

"Rabbit's here. What about Lion?"

"Lion's here too!"

"Where? I've never seen Lion!"

"By the floor-to-ceiling window! Look!"

"Wow! Lion's so tall, like 6'3"!"

"Yeah! Even sitting, his legs look long. He must be something special in real life. Is he handsome?"

"I want to meet him! But why's he sitting alone?"

"Truly strong individuals are often lonely! Look at Lion's presence. It feels like a warning to stay away! No one dares approach him unless he starts the conversation. Do you?"

"No."

Hearing this, Katherine realized Lion was here. She saw him by the window.

It was definitely him.

She had met Lion at an offline forum years ago. They exchanged ideas briefly, and many of their thoughts aligned. But the meeting was short, and she didn't get to talk much.

Today, she couldn't miss the chance to learn from him.

Bored with the current discussion, Katherine got up and walked towards Lion.

Seeing her approach, the whispers grew more excited!

Two top experts meeting was a big deal.

"Lion, long time no see!"

Katherine greeted him, her voice altered by a voice changer.

Lion looked up, his metal mask covering most of his face, leaving only his chin and thin lips exposed.

He glanced at the code on Katherine's chest, recognizing her online identity, and nodded slightly. "Hello."

His voice was altered too, sounding like a rough machine.

Katherine smiled. "Why are you drinking here alone? Why not join the discussion?"

"Not interested," Lion said, sipping his wine.

"Yeah, I find it boring too." Katherine nodded and asked, "Mind if I sit here?"

He nodded and gestured elegantly. "Please."

Katherine pulled out a chair and sat down.

Since he let her sit, he didn't mind chatting.

Katherine suddenly remembered. "Lion, last time we talked online, you mentioned you were married and had strict house rules, making it hard to attend forums. How did you manage to come this time? Did your wife give you permission?"

Lion, who had been indifferent, suddenly tensed up. His eyes under the mask turned cold.

Sensing the change, Katherine frowned. She was just trying to make conversation but seemed to have hit a nerve.

Lion was silent for a long time. "Divorced."

With that cold word, Lion finished his wine and closed his eyes wearily.

How did he get divorced so quickly?

"Sorry, I didn't know."

Katherine felt awkward for bringing up a sensitive subject. To apologize, she picked up the wine bottle and poured him another glass.

"No problem." He didn't blame her, but his tone was cold, and he seemed in a bad mood.

Katherine didn't want to pry into his private life, but she had her own relationship issues. She couldn't help but ask, "Why did you get divorced?"

Lion took a sip of wine and almost mockingly said, "She ran off with another man."

Katherine was at a loss for words.

Great! Now it was even more awkward!

She had asked another inappropriate question.

"Sorry, I shouldn't have asked."

Lion didn't seem angry, just sipping his wine and looking at her with cold eyes. "What about you? Didn't you get married too? How's your newlywed life?"

Talking about her situation, Katherine shrugged and smiled self-deprecatingly. "Funny enough, my situation is similar to yours; we've already separated."

Lion's eyes narrowed as he looked at her, throwing back the question she had asked him. "Oh? Why?"

Recently, he felt he didn't understand women at all and was curious about why women usually break up.

Leander had told him that Katherine mistakenly thought the child Scarlett adopted was his, which was why she left him.

She left decisively and started anew quickly, almost seamlessly marrying another man and even having a child with him.

However, even if she had misunderstood him, there was no need to explain now!

How could he explain? In what capacity would he explain to her? Did she even care about the truth?

How could she marry another man so quickly?

Did she have no heart?!

Katherine didn't know the man behind the mask was actually her husband, nor did she know what he was thinking. She just sighed and honestly answered, "Because I found out my husband had a child with another woman. I couldn't tolerate such a betrayal, so I left!"

Lion paused, his sharp eyes tightening as he stared at the familiar eyes of the masked woman across from him.
