Chapter 443 Ten Hermès Bags

Bernard squinted. "So, you think there's a chance Mom's still alive?"

Katherine sighed. "I hope so, but I really don't know. I haven't found any clues, just some paintings she left behind."

Bernard sighed. "I've been looking for you and Mom all these years. Now that you're back, I'll have someone keep searching for her."

Katherine nodded. "Alright, Mr. Mitchell. If you find anything, let me know."

She didn't mind more help searching for her mom. More people meant more ground covered.

She was really worried her mom might have been harmed after leaving her with Joshua. Claire wouldn't have given her up unless it was desperate.

Bernard saw Katherine's sad expression, knowing she was thinking about their mom. Katherine had been alone all these years, enduring who knows what.

He felt heartbroken and wanted to hug her, but he didn't dare. He knew she hadn't accepted him as her brother yet. She was only talking to him because of their mom. Otherwise, she wouldn't be calling him Mr. Mitchell.

Bernard knew he had to be patient. "Katherine, it's okay if you don't want to acknowledge me, but can you promise not to disappear again?"

Katherine smiled. "I'm at the Melville family. You can contact me anytime, but only about Mom. The Melvilles don't welcome the Mitchells.."

She stretched and stood up. "Alright, Alex has been waiting for me. I should go!"

Bernard didn't try to stop her. He just stood up and reminded her, "Take care."

Katherine waved without looking back and walked to the parking lot. Bernard watched her go, wanting to walk her to her car but afraid to upset her.

Luckily, the parking lot wasn't far. He could see her reach her car from where he stood. Only when she got to Alex did he feel relieved. He picked up his suit jacket and dusted it off.

As he turned to leave, he bumped into Edwin. Since Claire left, their relationship had been strained.

Edwin asked, "Bernard, what were you talking about with that girl?"

Bernard's expression was indifferent. "Just apologizing to Grandpa's savior. Today's events were disappointing for her."

Edwin nodded. "How did that girl marry into the Melville family?"

Bernard raised an eyebrow. "Why? Are you interested in her?"

Edwin replied, "She reminds me of your mother when she was young."

Bernard sneered. "Funny you remember her now. You should be ashamed to even mention her."

With that, Bernard grabbed his jacket and walked past Edwin without another word.

Edwin, used to Bernard's coldness, didn't get angry. After Claire left with Laura, Bernard had stopped talking to him.

Edwin sat alone on a stone bench, squinting towards the parking lot. He saw Katherine take a big gulp from a yogurt bottle Alex had opened for her, then playfully pull it away when Alex tried to drink, her face lighting up with a pure smile.

Edwin didn't even realize he was watching her with a kind expression. Katherine really did resemble Claire when she was young. It's been over a decade; he wondered how Claire was doing.

Back at the Melville Manor, Alex went upstairs to shower and change. Katherine stayed downstairs, saying she wanted to watch TV but actually heading to the kitchen.

Alex had come straight from work to pick her up, and with everything that happened, it was now dark, and he hadn't eaten.

She washed her hands, put on an apron, and started making pasta for him. A servant tried to help, but she sent them away. Cooking pasta wasn't complicated; she could handle it herself.

As she chopped tomatoes and prepared other ingredients, she heard hurried footsteps approaching the kitchen. She kept beating the eggs.

"Katherine, what do you mean by this?" Fiona stormed in, making sure Alex wasn't around before losing her temper.

Katherine, still beating the eggs, raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong? Want some pasta?"

Fiona rolled her eyes. "Who wants your lousy pasta? I'm talking about the stuff you had Anton give me today. What does it mean?"

Katherine smiled. "Oh, it's a gift I picked out for you."

Fiona was annoyed. "A gift? You call that a gift? I've never seen such a cheap gift in my life!"

She waved a booklet around disdainfully.

Katherine was unfazed. "Cheap? I gave you workbooks to help you improve your knowledge. Isn't that good? Knowledge is the most luxurious wealth, not shoes and bags."

Fiona gritted her teeth. "It's one thing to give me workbooks, but you gave me elementary school workbooks. What do you mean by that?"

Katherine calmly replied, "Nothing much. I was afraid you wouldn't understand the higher-level ones."

Fiona felt deeply insulted. "Katherine, you and your whole family have an elementary school IQ!"

Katherine chuckled. "Fiona, if you're so confident, why don't you complete a workbook to prove it? If you get at least half right, I'll buy you ten Hermès bags tomorrow. How about that?"
