Chapter 99 Still Calling Him Alex
Katherine looked at him and blinked unnaturally, responding with a tired reply.
Alex had already changed into a clean and crisp suit, which Leander must have just brought him.
Katherine thought for a moment, lowered her eyes, and said, "Um... all my clothes are ruined. Could you please have someone bring me a couple of clean outfits as well?"
Alex glanced at the torn and messy clothes on the floor inside, recalling how he almost crushed her last night. A satisfied glint of indulgence flashed in his narrowed eyes.
He raised his hand and handed her a shopping bag he had just brought in. "Leander bought these clothes randomly at the mall. If the size doesn't fit, make do for now and change when you get home."
Katherine took the bag and then said, "Thank you."
She turned and went into the bathroom to freshen up and change.
It was a very straightforward dress, a bit large, but at least it was presentable.
When Katherine came out after changing, the man was standing by the window smoking. Katherine spoke to his back, "Alex, I have to go now."
Alex turned his head to look at her with a hint of displeasure in his brows. He exhaled a thin stream of smoke and said in a half-commanding tone, "Come here."
‘Why?’ Katherine thought.
Katherine reluctantly walked over and stopped half a meter away from him, intentionally keeping her distance. "Alex, what else do you need?" she inquired.
Alex turned around and half-sat on the windowsill, extinguishing the half-smoked cigarette in his hand. "Are you still calling me Alex?" he remarked.
Katherine was puzzled and then asked, "If I don't call you Alex, what should I call you?"
Alex narrowed his eyes sternly and retorted, "What do you think? What should a woman call her husband?"
Katherine blushed and awkwardly pouted. "Alex, considering I helped you solve a problem last night, can you stop teasing me? It's so boring!"
‘She thought this was teasing?’ Alex was speechless.
Alex chuckled. "Of course, you were so righteous last night. I certainly won't treat you unfairly."
Katherine didn't understand what he meant, but she didn't need any compensation.
Last night's events were not forced upon her, nor was she confused. Although there were some helpless emotions, she was clear-headed and willing. She didn't see herself as sacrificing anything to him in exchange for something.
He suddenly stepped forward and grabbed her chin with his rough fingers, leaning in to kiss her lightly.
Katherine was momentarily stunned and instinctively stepped back, but her waist was pulled back.
After the deepest intimacy last night, she was no longer scared by Alex's actions, just puzzled.
After letting him kiss her for a moment, Katherine smacked her lips and frowned, asking, "Alex, are you still not over your lust?"
Alex darkened his face, and the tenderness in his eyes instantly cooled.
Katherine was usually so sharp! But at times like this, she was so stupid, which irritated him.
What a clueless fool!
In the car, Katherine finally calmed down a bit and rolled down the window for some fresh air.
Alex turned his head and asked her, "Where are you going?"
Katherine replied, "Please take me back to the Galatea Family. Thank you."
Alex started the car and said in a very calm tone, "You don't need to continue working as an assistant. I had Leander arrange a job for you to pass the time, not to serve others."
Katherine turned to look at him, thoughtful. Her current identity was Mrs. Melville. If people found out that the dignified Mrs. Melville was working as an assistant to a third-rate artist, it would affect Alex's reputation.
Thinking of this, she cooperatively agreed. "I have some loose ends to tie up, but I'll quit the job afterward."
Alex didn't say anything more and drove her to the Galatea Family.
After getting out of the car, Katherine suddenly thought of something and leaned on the car window, saying, "Alex, can I borrow some money? Those kidnappers threw my phone around yesterday, and I don't have any cash on me."
Alex looked at her intently and didn't ask for an amount, handing her his phone. "The password is my birthday."
Katherine caught his phone, somewhat surprised, and looked up at him, asking, "When is your birthday?"
At the Galatea Family.
In the morning, only Sherry and Lillian were at home. Joshua had gone out for a morning run.
Sherry had just come home that morning and was throwing a tantrum in the living room, complaining, "Mom, you said that the love mushroom would make a man aroused, but Mr. Melville didn't react at all when he saw me yesterday! He didn't even help me up when I fell naked. It was so humiliating!"
Lillian frowned in confusion, then replied, "That shouldn't be. I tested it on your dad, and it worked very well! If Mr. Melville really ate that dish and didn’t sleep with you, his body would have aftereffects. In mild cases, he could be paralyzed. Even worse, he could die from congestion! It’s said in the book that a man's instinctive survival desire will only make him more consumed by lust, making it unavoidable!"
As Lillian spoke, she found the book she had secretly hidden in the cabinet.
Lillian flipped to the section about the love mushroom and found a small line of text in parentheses at the bottom. ‘The love mushroom only works when facing someone they are attracted to. The dopamine produced by the body will activate the toxin. It is completely ineffective against someone they have no feelings for.’
Understanding the real reason, Sherry felt even more humiliated!
Sherry thought, ‘How could Mr. Melville have no feelings for me? What’s wrong with me? I have a great figure and good skin.’
At that moment, they heard the sound of the house door being unlocked. They thought Joshua had returned and stopped talking.
But it was Katherine who walked in.
Sherry immediately looked displeased and scolded, "Katherine, how dare you come back? You took my salary but didn't do any work! Give me back all the money right now!"
Katherine walked over without saying a word and slapped her!
Sherry was shocked, covering her face. "You're crazy! How dare you hit me!"
Lillian was also anxious and then reprimanded, "Katherine, you little bitch, how dare you hit Sherry!"
