Chapter 1023 Protecting Both You and Me

Yancy lashed out, "But seriously, I can't stand your setups. Heather's the only one for me. Those socialites you keep pushing on me? Not interested. If you still see me as your son, just stop. I don't need you making choices for me."

Cassidy looked crushed. "Yancy, I know you hate me. It's my fault. I wasn't there when you were born, or during your childhood. But I had no choice. If I didn't do this, Xavier would've never let me have you. I sent you away to protect you."

Yancy laughed, but his eyes were ice-cold. "Do you even hear yourself? If this is your idea of protection, giving me a childhood full of pain, I would've preferred you never had me."

Yancy closed his eyes, memories of his childhood flooding back.

In his earliest memories, Yancy was in a regular family. But he always felt like his parents didn't like him. He had a younger sister and brother, and their parents' eyes were full of love for them.

Yancy thought he must've done something wrong.

So he pushed himself to always be perfect. He aced his exams, but his parents never seemed happy about it. Meanwhile, his brother scored an 80 and got a gift from their dad.

Slowly, Yancy realized no matter what he did, his parents would never like him.

Once, his brother stole their mom's necklace to get money for games at an internet café.

That night, his brother accused Yancy of the theft.

Their dad didn't even ask for the truth. He just whipped Yancy. Yancy denied it, but that only made the beating worse until he passed out.

Even then, his dad wasn't satisfied and made Yancy kneel the next day.

His mom couldn't bear it and begged for Yancy, and only then did his dad relent.

Yancy slept in the storage room, with no light. It was stuffy and hot in the summer.

In the morning, his parents made breakfast for four, barring Yancy.

Yancy was desperate to find work, but employers said he was too young.

At that time, Yancy was in middle school. He badgered and convinced an employer to give him a job and worked harder than others for less pay, finally saving a little money.

But his brother took that money.

Yancy's only dream was to get into college and escape. But even that dream was shattered.

The night before the college entrance exam, his sister got drunk and stumbled into Yancy's room.

Yancy did nothing but try to wake her up.

When their parents found them, they didn't listen to his explanation. His father accused Yancy of trying to rape his sister.

When his sister woke up, she claimed she remembered nothing.

That night, Yancy was whipped all night, and his father called the police. Before dawn, he was taken to the police station.

That day was the entrance exam. Yancy knelt and begged to be allowed to take the test.

He had done nothing wrong. But no one listened.

The police needed to collect evidence, so Yancy was held in detention for two days.

After the entrance exam ended, he was released.

The police investigation concluded that Yancy hadn't raped his sister. His sister also said she had gotten drunk and walked into the wrong room.
