Chapter 494 It Was My Fault
Nicholas glared at her. Bella felt the tension and wanted to back off, but her back was already against the wall.
Bella looked a bit freaked out but still tried to be brave, clenching her fingers. "Nicholas, I'm Austin's fiancée. I'm about to move in with the Reynolds family. I get that you're worried about Austin, but I..."
She really wasn't sent by Cassidy.
Before she could finish, Nicholas cut her off. "If it wasn't for you, he wouldn't be in the hospital."
Bella shook. "What does this have to do with me?"
Nicholas snapped, "Quit the act. Is playing dumb fun for you? He's allergic to mangoes. You gave him a dessert with mango juice, and he went into shock. If it had been worse, he could've died. He's in the hospital because of you! Stop pretending to be innocent and tell Cassidy if she wants to mess with someone, she should come at me. I'm not scared of her!"
Bella was stunned. 'What? Austin is allergic to mangoes? He's in the hospital because of me?'
She didn't taste any mango in the dessert last night.
"I'm sorry, I really didn't know." Bella's eyes showed guilt.
"Fake sympathy. You didn't know? What a lame excuse." Nicholas wasn't buying it.
Bella's eyes welled up. She hadn't realized it was her fault. If she hadn't brought it up, Austin wouldn't have eaten it. Usually, the food for the third floor was checked by Brian or made under his orders. This wouldn't have happened.
It was because she mentioned it last night that Brian didn't check, and Austin trusted her.
Thinking about Austin trusting her made Bella feel awful.
It was like a giant hand was squeezing her heart.
Bella pleaded, "I'm really sorry. I want to see him, Nicholas. Please let me see him."
Nicholas looked at Bella begging. Her delicate features and red eyes made her look pitiful. Any normal guy wouldn't refuse, but Nicholas had long seen through Cassidy's tricks!
He wouldn't pity anyone sent by Cassidy.
Nicholas said, "Bella, get out of the hospital before I lose my temper. Otherwise, I'll have security throw you out."
Bella bit her lip, her voice shaking. "Mr. Reynolds, please let me see Austin."
She couldn't be at ease without seeing how he was.
From inside the room came a weak, faint, and hoarse voice. "Is Bella here?"
The voice was soft, but this was a high-level special care ward. There weren't many people around, and both Nicholas and Bella knew Austin's voice well. Bella was the first to react, her eyes lighting up as she walked past Nicholas into the room.
Nicholas pursed his lips and took a step forward.
Brian stopped him, lowering his voice. "Mr. Reynolds."
Nicholas halted, looking at Brian. "You better have a good reason."
Brian said, "I can tell that ever since Mr. Austin Reynolds got sick, this is the first time I've seen a light in his eyes when he saw Ms. Swan. Even if she was sent by Cassidy, if she can make him happy, I think it's worth it."
Nicholas trembled.
Brian continued, "We don't know how much longer Mr. Austin Reynolds has. I hope that every day he lives from now on is a happy one. Ms. Swan can make him happy."
