Chapter 307 The Big Shot
Natalie asked, "So, what did your mom say?"
Bella started crying. "She can't stand up to my dad either. Natalie, I've called you so many times. I'm at my breaking point."
Natalie apologized. "Sorry, Bella. I was busy last night."
"I don't want to marry someone I don't know, especially someone disfigured. I heard Austin has a really unstable personality. If I have to spend my life with him, I'd rather die."
Natalie tried to comfort her. "Bella, don't get so worked up. I'll come see you tomorrow. Maybe your dad just agreed on a whim. You should beg him; you're his only daughter."
Bella said, "Natalie, you don't get it. We can't afford to offend the Reynolds family."
The next day at 11 AM, Natalie met Bella at Mountain View Restaurant.
Bella looked exhausted, her eyes bloodshot and lifeless.
Bella started to complain. "I just found out yesterday that my family has a marriage contract with the Reynolds family. It was arranged by our elders. The Reynolds family has two sons, but I have to marry Austin. You know him; he was disfigured in a fire over a decade ago, and his organs are failing. He's almost dying. The Reynolds family suddenly approached my family, asking my dad to fulfill the old agreement. It was set by my grandfather, and they want me to marry Austin. It's insane!"
"Bella." Natalie held her hand.
Bella said, "I'm only twenty-one. Why should I spend my life with someone I don't know, who's disfigured and dying?"
She sighed. "The Reynolds family is very powerful. My family can't resist them. My dad founded Swan Jewelry Company. Although the business is good, it can't compare to the Reynolds Group. My dad said if I refuse the marriage, our company will suffer."
Natalie didn't know how to comfort Bella. Family alliances were something Bella couldn't resist. Natalie spent the whole afternoon with Bella, taking her to an arcade and watching two movies.
Bella's mood improved a bit, and she resigned herself to her fate.
Bella said, "I've thought it through. He's so sick that he'll die in a couple of years. By then, I'll still be young, and the Reynolds family will have to give me a fortune. It's not so bad."
Natalie smiled. Bella looked at her. "Not bad, right? I've made up my mind. What else can I do?"
Natalie felt relieved. "It's good you're thinking that way."
At 3 PM.
Howard Corporation Building.
Adrian was in a meeting.
Suddenly, Brice walked in urgently and whispered a few words in Adrian's ear. Adrian's face changed instantly.
Adrian put down everything, turned around, and left, leaving everyone in the conference room puzzled.
The car sped down the road, and Adrian arrived at a high-end private hospital in the city center as quickly as possible.
Stepping out of the elevator, he walked straight to a room door. Standing at the door, Adrian paused for a few seconds before stepping forward and pushing the door open.
Doctors and nurses were gathered around a bed.
The doctor saw Adrian and said, "Mr. Howard, just now, Ms. Lawson's fingers twitched a few times."
Adrian looked at Andrea lying on the bed. She was pale and frail, with a sickly complexion, deeply sunk into the bed. Her breathing and life were sustained by the machines beside her, with countless tubes maintaining her vital signs.
Adrian asked in a somewhat shaky voice, "Are you sure about what you just said?"
The doctor replied, "It's true. I saw Ms. Lawson's fingers move with my own eyes. It's truly a medical miracle."
