Chapter 34 Such a Wonderful Fiancée.
Adrian's mom, Claire Howard, had been in a car accident and hurt her leg and eye. After spending a month in the hospital, she finally had surgery. That was why she missed Adrian's engagement party. Now that she felt better, she was eager to meet her future daughter-in-law.
Adrian's phone rang, so he asked Natalie to stay with his mom while he stepped out to take the call.
"Alice, come here and let me see you," Claire said gently, her eyes still covered with bandages. She reached out and grabbed Natalie's wrist, feeling a pang of sympathy. "Why are you so thin? Don't skip meals to lose weight. You'd look better with a bit more on you."
"Got it," Natalie replied softly.
Claire liked her gentle demeanor. Holding Natalie's hand, she said, "I wasn't well enough to attend your engagement to Adrian. Alice, I have a gift for you to make up for it."
Claire slipped off the bracelet from her wrist and gently placed it on Natalie's. Though it was a bit big, it highlighted Natalie's fair skin.
The bracelet looked expensive, so Natalie hesitated. "Claire, I'm so touched, but I can't accept this. It's just too much."
"If you don't accept it, it means you're still upset that I didn't attend the engagement party," Claire said, pretending to be stern.
Natalie panicked and looked at Adrian for help. He smiled and said, "Just take it. It's from Mom."
Reluctantly, Natalie accepted the bracelet. She then pulled a handmade bracelet from her bag. "Claire, I made this myself. It's not worth much, but I hope you like it."
Claire's face lit up. "I love it! Thank you!" She immediately put it on, feeling it with her other hand. It was clear she genuinely liked it.
The value of a gift wasn't in its price but in the thought behind it. Claire had seen countless luxury items in her life, with many people trying to curry favor with the Howard family by giving gifts worth millions. But none of those gifts felt as precious as this bracelet.
She was thrilled that her son had found such a wonderful fiancée.
After spending some time with Claire, Adrian returned from his call. To give them some space, Natalie made an excuse to leave the room.
She couldn't shake the uneasy feeling from seeing Rosalie in the elevator earlier. After leaving the VIP area, she headed straight to Rosalie's room.
But when she got there, she found a middle-aged man in Rosalie's bed. She glanced around but there was no sign of Rosalie.
Then she grabbed a nurse and asked, "Where's Rosalie? Who was in this bed?"
"Rosalie? She was just moved to bed 03 in the hallway," the nurse replied.
