Chapter 235 Threat
Natalie turned and left.
In the ward, Alice, with red-rimmed eyes, watched Adrian wake up. "Adrian."
Adrian's vision was blurry from the snake venom. It had messed with his nerves, and he'd been out cold all night, leaving him a bit foggy.
He vaguely saw a woman in front of him.
He thought he was still in the forest, still in that cave.
He called out, "Natalie."
Alice froze, then gritted her teeth.
She thought, 'As I expected, something must've happened between them in the forest; otherwise, why would Adrian call out Natalie's name?'
Her heart raced.
But as Adrian woke up, Alice quickly put on an act, crying. "Adrian."
Adrian's vision cleared. The strong smell of disinfectant told him he was in a hospital. Alice was crying and threw herself into his arms. "Adrian, you scared me to death."
Adrian's arm was numb from the snake venom. He patted Alice's back. "I'm fine."
"Adrian, you really scared me. I didn't know what to do. The baby and I missed you so much," Alice said, placing Adrian's hand on her abdomen. Adrian was stunned; under his palm was Alice's slightly protruding belly. His gaze softened. "I made you worry."
Though she harbored some resentment towards Natalie, she was careful not to show it.
After all, she wasn't sure what had happened between Adrian and Natalie in the forest.
She cautiously probed.
Seeing no reaction from Adrian, she cautiously probed, "Adrian, the doctor said your hand is numb and weak because of the snake venom affecting your nerves. It will get better after a few days of rest."
Adrian squeezed his right hand; it was all numb.
He sat up, and the door to the hospital room opened. The doctor and nurse walked in. Adrian said to Alice, "You should go back."
Alice didn't want to leave, afraid Natalie would come. "No, Adrian, I want to stay with you."
Adrian instructed Brice, who was outside the door, "Brice, take Alice back." He looked at Alice. "You're tired too. You need to rest. Even if you don't want to, the baby in your belly needs to."
Hearing Adrian say this, Alice nodded.
"Alright, the baby and I will come to see you later." She held her lower back, sticking out her belly. This was her trump card.
Alice and Brice walked into the hallway. When they passed by Natalie's room, Alice stopped. She glanced at Brice. "Brice, I want to see Natalie. Wait for me at the door."
Brice was just an assistant; he had no authority to stop Alice, so he nodded.
Inside the room, Natalie was sitting on a chair reading a book. Hearing the door open, she thought it was a nurse and didn't look up.
The sound of high heels made her frown slightly. Before she could look up, a pair of light brown high heels appeared in her peripheral vision.
Natalie already knew who it was. She closed her book. "What are you doing here?"
"Natalie." Alice knew Brice was outside, so she gritted her teeth and whispered, "What happened between you and Adrian in the forest?"
"What do you think should have happened between Adrian and me?" Natalie looked at Alice, her gaze falling on Alice's belly. This was Alice and Adrian's child. She clenched her fingers. "Alice, you're not welcome in my ward."
Alice said, "Natalie, I'm warning you! Your mother is still in my hands. If I want, she can be thrown out of the hospital right now! Without the expensive anti-rejection drugs, Rosalie will be dead by tomorrow!"
Natalie's eyes turned cold. "Alice, that's illegal!"
