Chapter 38 Not So Resistant to Her

Natalie remarked, "Mr. Howard, I know you're very busy, so you don't have to stay here with me. I'll be fine."

Adrian scoffed, "Stop playing hard to get! It's not working."

Natalie fell silent. Adrian always misunderstood her.

After getting her stitches, Natalie was drenched in sweat. The wound wasn't severe, but it had bled a lot. The doctor advised her to keep it dry, and change the dressing regularly.

Adrian frowned at her pale, weak face. He turned to the doctor and asked, "Is that it? You're not going to hospitalize her?"

The doctor replied, "Not for now."

Adrian insisted, "Admit her anyway."

Doctor refused, "It's just unnecessary. The wound looks deep, but it's bandaged. She just needs to rest at home."

Before the doctor could finish, he noticed Adrian's cold, indifferent gaze. Wiping the sweat from his forehead, he thought to himself, 'I've never seen a patient so eager to be admitted to the hospital.'

"I don't need to be admitted," Natalie said, frowning. "Mr. Howard, if you're not feeling well, you can get admitted. But I'm not staying."

Adrian was weird. Why insisted on admitting her?

Natalie stood up, thanked the doctor, and walked out. After a few steps, she felt dizzy. She stopped, bit her lip, and stumbled back, bumping into Adrian's chest. Before she knew it, he scooped her up and commanded, "Brice, get the admission papers."

"I said I don't need to be admitted! Adrian, put me down," Natalie shouted, struggling to break free.

Adrian placed her on the hospital bed. A nurse quickly came to set up an IV. Adrian glanced at Natalie, then walked out. The nurse smiled at Natalie and said, "Your boyfriend really cares about you."

Natalie argued, "He's not my boyfriend."

The nurse awkwardly smiled, saying, "Sorry, but he's already paid for your stay. Just rest here for a bit. Press the call button when the IV is done. If the cut on your arm is really hurting, we have painkillers."

Lying on the bed, Natalie recalled the earlier scene when the crazy woman had come at Adrian with a knife.

The wound on her arm still burned.

Gradually, the medication took effect, making her drowsy, and she drifted off to sleep.

When Adrian returned, he saw Natalie asleep on the bed, curled up and looking fragile. His gaze softened as he pulled up a chair and sat beside her.

Natalie had gone to great lengths to drug him and sneaked into his bed, hiding her greedy and vain heart behind an innocent facade. Yet, he didn't seem as resistant to her as he thought he would be. His heart was filled with an odd sensation.

Natalie stayed in the hospital for three days before being discharged. Bella had been worried sick and kept checking on her. Natalie reassured her she was fine and even video-called her. Seeing Natalie lively and well, Bella finally felt relieved.

On the day of Natalie's discharge, Bella drove her home. Natalie tidied herself up, took a quick shower, and changed into fresh clothes. She put on some makeup, her smile tinged with bitterness. After today, she and Adrian would probably never cross paths again.

Because this afternoon, Adrian was leaving for Verono.

She quickly transformed into her "Alice" persona, put on the diamond pendant she had always hesitated to wear, and took a cab to the airport.

In the airport lounge, Adrian looked at her with affection, "Alice, wait for me. I have a surprise for you when I get back."

A surprise?

She might not be around to see it.
