Chapter 657 The Role Was Switched
Mindy shot Heather a text, "Heather, how's Natalie holding up on set these days?" Yvonne hadn't checked in with the crew, so Mindy was still in the dark about Juniper's photoshopped pics.
Heather shot back, "She's hanging in there."
Mindy replied, "Heather, we gotta talk. You free for a video call right now?"
Heather knew Mindy had something big to spill.
Heather was still in Natalie's room, running lines with her. She glanced at Natalie, who gave her a nod.
Heather pulled the curtains shut and fired up the video call.
She put the phone on speaker so Natalie could listen in.
"I gotta tell you something," Mindy's voice came through. "So, Natalie was supposed to be the lead in 'One Day' directed by Victoria, but turns out she's not a fit. After some back-and-forth with a few production companies, she's out."
Heather and Natalie had kinda seen this coming.
Heather asked, "What? How's that even possible? This movie's been Natalie's gig since last year. Ms. Richardson is tight with Natalie, and we've been waiting to jump into One Day after Rising Winds. Ms. Richardson even vouched for Natalie. How could she get dropped? Mindy, can you push back on this? Is there some mix-up?"
Mindy was losing her patience and didn't want to argue. "Heather, I'm just giving you the heads-up, not looking for a debate. The movie hasn't started shooting yet, so swapping leads is no biggie. No contract's been signed. The entertainment biz is cutthroat. Today it's your role, tomorrow it's someone else's. Only the strong survive. Even with a signed contract and filming underway, leads can still get swapped! That's just how it is. I've got other gigs lined up for Natalie. Losing One Day just means it wasn't meant to be!"
"Other gigs? One Day is Victoria's baby, something she's been working on for years. It's one of the most hyped films this year, with a huge budget, killer script, solid crew, and a role that fits Natalie like a glove. Now that the lead's been changed, finding another perfect role like this is gonna be tough." Heather tried to make one last plea, but Mindy wasn't having it.
Mindy snapped, "Heather, you're just an exec agent. I'm Natalie's main agent! I can replace you with a snap of my fingers!"
Heather bit her lip.
Natalie, looking icy, signaled Heather to hang up and stop pushing it.
Heather said, "Got it."
Mindy thought Heather was cowed by her authority and smirked. "Heather, you've got potential. Moving on from Natalie to manage other talents could be a smart move. I've got a bunch of newbies under me, and I can set you up to manage them if you're interested. Sticking with Natalie is a dead end. One Day was handed to Alice by Mrs. Howard, who called Herman tonight. Mrs. Howard gave the nod; who'd dare say no? Mrs. Howard's backing Alice, and Alice is the real deal in the Howard family. From now on, Alice could take any gig Natlie wants as long as she does. Alice is bouncing back and gearing up for a full comeback."
