Chapter 291 Not Letting Her Leave

Natalie put it on, feeling a bit embarrassed.

She closed her eyes, changed clothes, and tidied up. Ten minutes later, she walked out.

Adrian was on the phone in the study, and Lucky was lying bored on the living room floor. Hearing Natalie come downstairs, Lucky ran over, tugging at her pant leg to lead her outside.

"I have to go!" Natalie said.

Lucky barked.

"Lucky, have you seen my phone?" She knew it was silly to ask a dog, but her bag was missing. Could it be with that guy from last night? No, she must've dropped it.

It would be awful if someone picked it up.

Her phone, cards, keys, and other stuff were in that bag.

Natalie was worried.

Lucky seemed to think for a moment, then ran upstairs. Adrian, still on the phone, saw Lucky grab the white bag from the desk.

Adrian raised an eyebrow. "You're pretty smart."

Lucky wagged its tail, standing at the door without moving. It seemed like it wouldn't go downstairs without Adrian's command. But Adrian stayed silent, and Lucky grew more anxious, wagging its tail even more.

Adrian's voice was calm. "If you keep her, I'll get Brice to grab you a girl dog from the pound tomorrow."

Lucky barked, as if to say "Deal!"

Natalie sat on the sofa, eyes slightly downcast.

Lucky ran downstairs, placing the bag in front of her. Natalie's eyes widened, and she smiled. "Lucky, you're amazing!" She hugged Lucky's neck and kissed its face.

She checked the bag. Phone, keys, wallet, and cards were all there.

Natalie sighed in relief. She took out her phone, which had shut off from the fall. She turned it on, and it still had battery.

There were seven or eight missed calls, three from Rosalie, four from Fiona.

She immediately called Rosalie back.

Rosalie picked up right away. "Natalie, where were you last night? You didn't come home. Were you working a night shift?"

Natalie went along. "Yes, night shift."

Rosalie asked, "I see. When are you coming back?"

Natalie was about to say soon, but Lucky kept tugging at her pant leg, not wanting her to leave. She smiled helplessly. "Maybe a bit later. Mom, don't wait for me. Go ahead and eat. Remember to take your medicine and rest well after dinner."

Rosalie replied, "Okay, don't overwork yourself."

After hanging up with Rosalie, Natalie called Fiona back.

Fiona blurted out, "Finally, you called me back. Where were you last night? I couldn't find you anywhere!"

Natalie didn't mention the near-assault, not wanting to worry her. "I ran into a friend and left early. My phone broke."

Fiona said, "I see. You should've told me. I was so worried something happened to you. I'm exhausted. Can you cover my shift the next two nights?"

Natalie felt a bit guilty. "I can't. I took half a month off."

Fiona asked, "Why so long? Alright, I'm going to sleep. I'm exhausted."

Natalie said, "Okay, get some rest."

After hanging up, Natalie put her phone back in her bag and looked at Lucky, who was still pawing at her legs. "I'll play with you for a bit, but then I have to go."

Outside Bayview Villa, there was a large lawn.

Natalie played with a frisbee and ball with Lucky for a while. Lucky seemed full of energy, running back and forth. Natalie was tired, but Lucky still brought the ball back. She laughed, petting Lucky's fur, and found a brush to groom it.

She asked, "Lucky, how about I make a furball out of your fur? It won't go to waste."

Lucky tilted its head back and barked a few times.

Upstairs in the study, Adrian stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, looking at the lawn below. The corners of his lips curved slightly, and there was a hint of warmth in his eyes.
