Chapter 940 We Like Each Other

After a moment, Heather grinned. "Excuse me, Ma'am, but I think you've got it all wrong. Why should I be the one to make you happy?"

Cassidy was caught off guard.

Heather went on, "It's obvious you don't get Yancy or what he wants. You think he's into me just to annoy you. You want him to dump me and hook up with some high-society girl. Ma'am, you never really knew your own son. I've been with Yancy for ages, and he's never mentioned his family. Whenever I bring it up, he always dodges the topic."

Cassidy's once proud demeanor started to crack, her expression faltering.

Heather's words hit hard. Cassidy's nostrils dilated with anger.

Heather continued, "You're right, my background isn't great. I come from a regular rural family. I've worked my butt off to get where I am, and it wasn't until I was almost thirty that I became a manager. My savings aren't much. With my background, I don't deserve Yancy. If you want him to break up with me, have him tell me himself. As for the twenty million dollars..."

She glanced at the card on the table and added, "It's really tempting. I might never make that much in my life. But sometimes money can't buy everything. Just like no amount of money can fix your strained relationship with Yancy, and right now, no amount of money can make me leave him. You've always underestimated our relationship. He's with me because we genuinely like each other, not to spite you."

Heather's voice was soft but a bit raspy. After she finished, she grabbed her bag and stumped out.

Cassidy was left stunned. Sitting in the booth, she realized she underestimated Heather.

In Cassidy's mind, a woman from such a background should be greedy and vain, and twenty million dollars would make her happily leave her son. But now, Heather had actually turned her down and said all that.

Lucy, who was beside her, asked, "Want me to give Heather a little warning?"

Cassidy replied, "Check her background thoroughly and see if there's any mistake."

Heather spoke clearly and calmly, not like someone who had struggled her way up from the countryside.

Lucy said, "Heather doesn't seem easy to buy off. Yancy's always been really close to her."

Cassidy said, "Either she really loves Yancy like she said, or she wants more."

Usually, most women would be the latter.

Cassidy stood up, left the café, and got into a Bentley outside.

Two minutes later, Lucy joined her. "Mrs. Reynolds, Heather just paid for the coffee."

Cassidy's eyes narrowed.

The meeting had ended on a sour note. Cassidy returned to the Reynolds Estate. Although it was still the old Reynolds Estate, it was now completely her place.

Cassidy sat on the sofa, raised her hands to rub her temples, and asked Lucy, "How's Bella been these past few days?"
