Chapter 574 Taking a Dig
Dylan leaned back, smirking. "So, Finnian's got Natalie's back, huh? No wonder she's snagging all the prime gigs. Word on the street is her next flick's gunning for an Oscar. But Finnian? Pfft, he's a nobody." Dylan then turned to Herman, buttering him up. "He ain't got nothin' on you, Mr. Simmons."
Calliope strutted in, hips swaying. "Mr. Simmons~"
She was a fourth-tier celeb with Dynamic Entertainment Media. Mostly snagging side roles or leads in low-budget stuff, she made decent cash, though. And she had some occasional endorsements, and lived a well-off life.
Calliope plopped herself right onto Herman's lap. "Mr. Simmons, did ya miss me? It's so late, and you called me over."
"Sweetheart." Herman flipped her over, pinning her down.
Dylan, catching the vibe, quietly shut the office door and bounced.
Natalie shot a look at Heather. "When I texted you, I told you to find Mindy. Where's she?"
Heather sighed. "Couldn't get a hold of her. I called her twice, no answer."
Heather had just parked the car.
Natalie and Heather headed upstairs.
As they stepped out of the elevator, Heather's phone buzzed.
It was Mindy.
Heather glanced at it, and Natalie nodded for her to pick up.
Mindy's voice came through. "Heather, saw you called earlier. What's up?"
Heather replied, "Oh, nothing. It's all sorted now."
"Good to hear," Mindy said. "I was in the shower, left my phone outside. Glad it's handled."
Heather hung up and muttered, "I think Mindy's full of it."
They were back home by now.
Natalie grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge, chugging half of it. The cold water seemed to clear her head a bit. She looked at Heather. "How do you know she's lying?"
Heather shrugged. "Just a hunch. When I went downstairs, I hit the restroom. Yvonne was there too. I was in the stall and overheard Yvonne calling Mindy, saying she saw you go into Herman's office."
Natalie always knew Yvonne was Mindy's mole.
But Yvonne was also her assistant and did her job well.
So Natalie let it slide, even though Yvonne reported back to Mindy.
Yvonne had never crossed her, but... Since Mindy knew she went to Herman's office, she dodged Heather's calls on purpose.
If it wasn't for Heather's quick thinking with that smoke device, Herman would've had his way with her.
Mindy was playing a dangerous game.
No secret would stay hidden forever.
Natalie got what Mindy was up to.
Mindy wanted to send a message.
She claimed to back Natalie, but that was 'cause she was scared of Adrian, who had Natalie's back. Yet, she also wanted to keep Natalie under her thumb.
Mindy had slipped up from the start.
Natalie had met with Karen a few times, and Yvonne had tattled to Mindy.
Mindy had dropped hints, not so subtly.
Basically, she didn't want Natalie getting too chummy with Karen.
At the time, Natalie didn't think much of it.
Now, it was clear Mindy couldn't be fully trusted.
