Chapter 745 Not Mine
Alice's eyes were all puffy and red, tears streaming down her face. She looked like a kicked puppy, nodding her head like she'd been through hell and back.
Curtis and Emmett couldn't figure out a better plan as well.
Outside, Adrian fired up the car. He had a date with Natalie.
It was already 11 AM. He wondered if Natalie was still waiting for him or if she was fuming mad.
Alice's pregnancy was shady. She just showed up out of the blue today, looking like she wanted answers.
Adrian didn't lay a finger on Alice that night. Even drunk, he knew he didn't touch her.
He did remember Alice helping him to his room, but he had no clue the hotel was where Alice stayed while shooting her film. The next day, Adrian's assistant mentioned some woman helped him out the night before, and Adrian was calling out Natalie's name.
Adrian caught a whiff of a strong rose scent that night, a smell he knew wasn't Natalie's, even in his drunken state.
Just as Adrian arrived at the gate, Joe called out, “Adrian.”
Seeing Joe, Adrian hit the brakes.
Joe walked over. Adrian didn't vibe with him much, more with Ruben.
Joe was this polished dude, handsome and mature, rocking glasses like a college professor. He kept fit, loved writing, and ran a fancy antique shop, where he mostly hung out.
Even though Joe wasn't super family-focused, he kept his nose clean, no side chicks. Because of past screw-ups, he valued Claire even more.
But Adrian was a whole different story, more like Ruben.
Joe said, “Adrian, a mimute?”
Adrian got out of the car, and they headed to the gazebo in the garden.
Joe asked, “You sure the kid Alice is carrying isn't yours?”
Joe knew Adrian wasn't a liar but a responsible man.
Adrian pursed his lips. “I don't know about the first kid, but this one was definitely not mine. I was wasted that night and didn't touch Alice at all.”
Joe frowned. “First kid? What do you mean?”
“The kid that was nine months along, I can't prove it wasn't mine. But I've dug up a lot. If the kid was really mine, Alice wouldn't have risked saving Mom. Actually, it wasn't Alice risking it; it was Alice and Carlos or someone else behind them staging the chandelier fall. It saved Mom, aborted the kid, and made Mom feel guilty.”
Joe was floored. “Has the chandelier thing been looked into? Are you sure Alice's involved? And what's Carlos got to do with it?”
Adrian replied, “John's always had some shady stuff going on, and Grandpa just ignores it. But John's been in the Howard Family for ages, and as long as Grandpa's around, John won't stir the pot. I'm worried once Grandpa's gone, John won't stay quiet. Dad, you know what kind of guy John is.”
Joe had known John for over 40 years, so he knew the deal with John perfectly well.
