Chapter 415 Stand him Up
Natalie didn't bounce tonight. In the dead of night, she cracked her eyes open and peeped at the dim view, catching Adrian's high-bridged nose. She reached out and gently touched his cheek. Next thing she knew, Adrian's hand grabbed hers.
Natalie jumped a bit. She thought she had woken him up.
But after a few seconds, she heard Adrian's steady breathing and realized he was still out cold. Just a reflex, she guessed.
Lately, Mindy set up ID checks for Natalie on all the big platforms and made her post a pic once a week.
Natalie usually hit up Facebook to drop her thoughts or some landscape shots. But Dynamic Entertainment, to keep their artists' privacy tight and dodge any old cringe posts, made everyone re-register their accounts.
Soon, Natalie wrapped up her scenes as the lead in the anthology series and jumped straight into the next flick.
It was a high school drama directed by the famous Esme Adams, who's like the queen of youth romance films. Her last movie, "The Future Is Yours," killed it at the box office last Valentine's Day, raking in $860 million and smashing records for youth romance films.
Natalie played Luna Miller, the fourth female lead, a sweet and quiet girl at school. In the 120-minute movie, she had like two minutes of screen time. As the lead girl's friend, Catherine Spencer, she helped push the main romance along.
Her scenes were packed into about 10 days, mostly to fit the lead girl's schedule. Sometimes, Natalie had just one scene a day.
This week, Natalie didn't see Esme. Her scenes were handled by the assistant director, Connor Smith.
Connor checked the monitor. "Nice, perfect. Luna, turn your head and look at Ruby. Keep your eyes on Ruby's face."
Ruby Cooper was the second female lead, the roadblock between the main couple, and the male lead's childhood confidant.
Ruby was played by Harper Bennett, a dancer who blew up earlier this year. This morning, the main scenes were between Natalie and Harper.
Harper was no-nonsense, danced with a cool vibe, and rocked a hip-hop street style. The character Ruby was totally different from Harper herself.
After a take, Harper wiped the sweat off her face. "This role is so tough. Natalie, Ruby should be you, the male lead's childhood friend, the long-haired goddess. I don't fit this role at all. Hope the audience doesn't roast me when it airs."
Natalie grinned. "You nailed it just now. Usually, in pics, you look super cool, totally different from the ladylike vibe you just had, but it didn't feel off at all. As an actor, you gotta break out of your shell."
Harper took a swig of water, looking a bit shy. "I don't act much. This script was set up by the company. Natalie, I hadn't heard of you before, but now we're acquainted. I think you're gorgeous and talented. You're with Dynamic Entertainment, right? That's a big deal. I heard Dynamic Entertainment is spearheading this film, with their own actress star in the lead role. They put in a lot of cash, so why'd they give you the fourth female lead?" Harper's blunt nature made her speak her mind. "Don't get me wrong, I don't mean anything by it. I just think you're way better than Samantha. It's really dumb of them to push her and not you."
Natalie smiled. "I gotta climb the ladder step by step. If they gave me the lead in this movie, I wouldn't be able to handle it as a newbie."
Harper handed Natalie a bottle of water. "If all newbies thought like you, it'd be awesome. In this biz, everyone's clawing for roles. Samantha's the lead in this film, also a newbie from your company. With such a big production, we still gotta wait for her to show up for a scene this afternoon. Bet she'll be at least an hour late."
Natalie said, "I hope not."
Harper shrugged, "We'll see."
Natalie said, "I hope she won't be late." Adrian had also made dinner plans with Natalie for tonight.
She agreed right away. She hoped she wouldn't stand Adrian up because of this.
