Chapter 638 Letting Go
This morning, they had another script read-through, and everyone showed up.
The assistant barged in and said the producer wanted to see Oscar.
When Oscar got to the meeting room, Natalie's agent, Heather, was already there.
Heather pipied up, "Natalie told me last night she wants to move her billing position back and have Samuel's teacher take the lead."
Oscar raised an eyebrow, clearly caught off guard. He didn't see that coming from Heather, and definitely not from Natalie. Most actors would kill for the lead spot, but not her, who was giving it up.
Not just Oscar, but even the seasoned producers were taken aback. It was a first for them, too, seeing a lead actor willingly step down.
Everyone had different looks on their faces.
Oscar turned to Heather. "Did Natalie really say that?"
Heather nodded. "Yep, she said Samuel's got mad skills and experience, and she wants to learn from him. Even though the film's revolving around a female lead, she still wants Samuel to take the top spot."
One of the producers chimed in, "Samuel's a special guest star; he won't be overshadowed."
Heather insisted, "Natalie said even as a guest, Samuel should be the lead guest."
The producer was momentarily speechless.
Oscar's eyes showed a hint of respect. Maybe Natalie wasn't as bad as he thought. At least, she seemed to be a solid and together actress.
Meeting a senior and giving up her billing position made Oscar rethink his opinion of Natalie.
Sure, Oscar had seen some of Natalie's bad press before, but he knew how the fame game worked. Rival teams often stir the pot. A few scandalous photos didn't mean much. Even if they were of Natalie, it just showed she had a past, which didn't necessarily relate to the present.
But because of Natalie's past scandals, Oscar's film had been stuck in limbo. The biggest investor, Dynamic Entertainment, insisted on Natalie as the female lead. Oscar had even butted heads with Dynamic's boss over it. Now, it seemed like Natalie was the right fit after all.
All day, Natalie was taking notes, not just on her role but on everyone else's, too. By the afternoon, she had the whole script in her hands, two thick volumes.
Oscar had poured his heart into this script. It was his third team-up with Matthew.
Their last two projects were box office hits, both critically and commercially.
This time, they had fine-tuned the script for years, crafting each character with care. This script was gold.
It was Natalie's first time meeting Matthew.
Matthew looked way younger than his age, with well-kept skin. His hair was styled in big waves, and he wore a fisherman's hat and a black-and-white printed long dress, giving off a French vibe.
Matthew walked over and immediately hugged Samuel.
Matthew said, "Didn't expect you to play the male lead here. I wrote a script just for you, which you turned down, and now you're here playing a supporting role. Color me surprised."
Samuel grinned. "There'll be more chances to work together."
"Alright then." Matthew glanced at Natalie, sitting next to Samuel, and held out his hand. "You must be Natalie. Heard a lot about you."
The phrase "Heard a lot about you" had a bit of a sarcastic edge, but Matthew's eyes were clear and sincere. Natalie stood up and shook his hand.
