Chapter 271 Rescuing Rosalie (2)

Natalie and Curtis showed up at Shoreview General Hospital.

The bodyguards on the 6th floor had been told to leave half an hour ago. They were in it for the money, not to end up in jail for illegal detention.

Natalie pushed open the hospital room door, her eyes tearing up. "Mom."

Rosalie sat up in bed. "Natalie."

Natalie walked over and hugged her. "Mom, I'm getting you out of here."

Finally, she could free Rosalie from Avery's control and threats.

"Okay," Rosalie said, her voice trembling with emotion. She had been trapped here, her freedom stripped away, her health fluctuating.

She knew her body well enough to understand that a kidney transplant was her only lifeline. Yet, the oppressive environment of this place, especially with Avery around, was unbearable.

"Curtis," Rosalie said, noticing Curtis standing at the door.

Curtis met her gaze, a tangle of emotions playing across his face. It had been years since they’d last seen each other.

During their time with at the Cullen family home, Rosalie had kept her distance from him. Curtis had only spoken to her occasionally, careful not to provoke Avery’s jealousy.

After Stanley and Ryan passed away, things got even more complicated. They barely spoke when they met.

Curtis said, "Rosalie, I need to talk to you."

Natalie, holding Rosalie's hand, felt the tension and released it at Rosalie’s gentle pat. With a tight-lipped expression, glanced at Curtis, and said to Rosalie, "I'll wait outside."

Now, it was just Rosalie and Curtis in the room.

Curtis looked at the frail Rosalie on the bed. He remembered her as a bright college student. He smiled, reminiscing. "I remember a lot of guys in college were eager to date you back in college."

Rosalie stood up. She was different now, without fancy clothes or expensive skincare. Now, she was sickly and swollen, her complexion sallow and her frame thin. Her once-glossy hair was dry and frizzy, reflecting the toll of her illness.

She was only in her forties but looked like she was in her sixties.

Curtis, in his suit, had gained a mature charm despite being middle-aged.

"Yeah, so many people were after me, and I chose you." Rosalie's voice had a hint of sarcasm. "Curtis, you've changed."

Curtis was taken aback, his nostalgic expression freezing. "Rosalie, I didn't know Avery did this behind my back. I'm really sorry."

"Are you apologizing for your wife?" Rosalie realized that the reason the bodyguards had left was because Avery's detention of her had been exposed. She had initally thought something had happened, perhaps Avery had become kind.

Curtis felt tormented. He had wronged Rosalie time and again. Thinking back, he felt ashamed, but as a man with his own company and an annual income of millions, he had to hold on tohis pride.

"Take this," he said, handing her a debit card.

Rosalie accepted it, smiling with her sallow face. "Just this? It's too little. My husband, my son, and you... Curtis, you abandoned me to climb up the ranks, choosing Avery. Is all this worth just tens of thousands of dollars?"

Curtis's face looked grim. He took out another debit card and handed it over. "Rosalie, I know I owe you a lot."

"Indeed, too much. You and Avery owe me too much." Rosalie was emotional. "Do you know how Avery treated me? I was locked up here, had a kidney transplant, but she gave me medicine one day and stopped the next. My health kept deteriorating, and she threatened my daughter. You all threatened my daughter!"

Curtis looked at her emotional state. "Rosalie, it's me and her who wronged you."

"Hahaha." Rosalie suddenly laughed. Her prolonged illness and dependence on dialysis had left her face sallow and gaunt, resembling little more than a skeletal frame.

But now, her smile deepened, becoming somewhat eerie. "Curtis, go back and tell Avery, she will definitely regret it in the future!"
