Chapter 245 Daniel's Confession

Brice tried to read Adrian's mind. "Mr. Howard, sometimes it's either that this person is exceptionally good at hiding the truth, or you're reluctant to admit what's really going on. Or, it could all be a lie."

"Look into this guy," Adrian said, pointing at a photo of a man next to the half-naked woman in the picture. The image was a bit blurry, but enough details were discernible.

Brice nodded. "Got it."

Adrian added, "Handle my discharge papers and get someone to watch Alice."

Brice replied, "Will do."

Daniel texted: [Natalie, can we meet?]

Natalie glanced at the text message from Daniel. Over the past few days, he'd called her several times, and she had ignored each call, along with his messages. But now, as the text arrived, Daniel's phone call came through once more.

Natalie sighed and answered. She needed to clear things up with him. "Hello."

Daniel said, "Natalie, I'm right outside."

Natalie's eyes widened in shock.

She then opened the door.

Daniel stood there, holding a bunch of stuff. When he saw her, he smiled brightly. "Look what I brought you." He walked past her into the living room.

As Daniel stepped into the living room, he was taken aback by the stark simplicity of the space. He had anticipated that Natalie's financial situation might be tight, given her mother's illness, but he hadn't expected her home to be so stark and chilly.

The furniture was minimal: a row of sofas, a TV, a small kitchen area connected to the living room, a table, and chairs. Yet, everything was impeccably clean.

Suddenly, Daniel felt a lump in his throat.

He said, "When you were unconscious, I was at the hospital. When I went back, the doctor said you were discharged. I've been calling, but you didn't answer, so I came."

Natalie looked down. "Wait a moment, I'll get you some water."

Daniel watched her walk to the kitchen. He sat on the sofa, looking around. The place was simple but felt cozy.

Natalie brought out some fruit and a glass of water.

Daniel pointed at a family photo on the wall. "This is you, right?"

Natalie looked at the photo. Two months after it was taken, her father and brother had died.

"Yes, that's me," she said.

"And this?" Daniel pointed at the boy next to her.

"That's my brother. He and my father are both gone," Natalie replied.

Daniel was stunned. He wanted to comfort her but didn't know how.

"Natalie, I've thought a lot these past few days. I don't care about your past," Daniel said.

Natalie smiled faintly. "Mr. Murphy, there's no future for us. We're from different worlds. You might not care, but I do."

"You're rejecting me, aren't you?" Daniel felt hurt but expected her rejection. He smiled. "You can reject me, but you can't stop me from pursuing you."

Natalie didn't know how to explain the gap between them. "Mr. Murphy, you don't understand."

Daniel interrupted, "I don't want to understand. I only care about your future."

Natalie felt a bit dazed at his words.
