Chapter 455 The First Meeting

Lucy grinned, "Ms. Swan, go on in and get to know Mr. Reynolds better."

Bella wasn't feeling it. The whole vibe of the place was throwing her off, making her feel all kinds of uneasy. But she sucked it up, pushed the door open, and stepped inside.

Outside, Lucy turned to Brian, "I'm heading down now."

Brian nodded, "Cool."

As soon as Lucy left, Brian whipped out his phone and dialed Nicholas. "Yo, Nicholas, Miss Swan's in Austin Reynolds's room."

Nicholas on the other end was like, "You let her in?"

Brian shrugged, "Austin wanted to meet her."

Nicholas said, "I'm coming back right now. Keep an eye on the door."

Brian replied, "Got it."

Inside, it wasn't as creepy as Bella thought. Actually, it was pretty chill. The place smelled like disinfectant, and there were some medical gadgets around, but it didn't feel dead.

The window was open, and there were some cute little potted plants on the sill.

The light blue curtains were swaying in the breeze.

Bella slowly made her way to the bed.

The guy half-lying there was reading a book. He had glasses perched on his nose. He didn't look too old, maybe twenty-six, with hair the same color as his eyes.

He had this gentle, classy vibe going on.

Bella's cheeks got a bit warm. She thought Austin was super handsome and refined.

"Hey," Bella said softly.

Austin looked up and smiled. "Have a seat, Ms. Swan."

Bella plopped down on a nearby chair. Austin said, "I'm surprised you came to see me today, Ms. Swan. But even if you hadn't, I wanted to meet you and chat."

Bella asked, "About what?"

Austin replied, "I get it, you don't wanna tie the knot with me, and I ain't gonna hold you back. I might not be here much longer anyway."

Bella said, "No, you'll get better, you definitely will."

For some reason, hearing Austin say he might not last long made her feel a pang of sadness.

She had just met him, so why did she feel this way?

Bella smiled. "If I marry you, Swan Jewelry Company will thrive. If I don't, itwon't survive many years under the pressure from the Reynolds Group. I get all of this."

Austin said, "I'm sorry, Ms. Swan, but that's not something I can control."

"I know, I get it. My bad." Bella smiled, a faint dimple appearing on her cheek. "Actually, Mrs. Reynolds asked me to come see you. She asked me to come today. On my way here, I was thinking, if you were a bad person, I would stay as far away as possible. But..."

Austin asked, "But what?"

Bella continued, "But I think I was overthinking it. Marrying you might not be so bad."

Austin shook his head with a smile. "You told me this. Aren't you afraid Mrs. Reynolds will blame you?"

Bella stuck out her tongue. "If you don't tell her, how would she know?"

Bella's gaze fell on the book in his hand. "Do you like this book too? I do. I have almost all the books by this author."

Austin was a bit surprised. "You like it too?" Seeing Bella nod, Austin smiled. "I have many more on the bookshelf."

Bella stood up and walked over to the bookshelf.
