Chapter 924 Causing Great Harm
Carlos was on his knees, shaking like a leaf.
On the table, a tablet played a video of him and Alice in the underground garage. Their shameless voices echoed through the dead-silent living room.
Carlos was floored when he got called in to watch the video, cold sweat pouring down his face.
He had no clue what was next, but he knew he was screwed. Sleeping with Adrian's girl and getting caught? With Adrian's rep for being ruthless, Carlos knew he was toast.
The air was thick with tension, and Ruben's presence was almost choking him.
Just then, John rushed in. He saw Carlos kneeling and the Howard family members on the couch. He got the picture instantly. Walking over, he knelt down too. "Godfather, it's my fault for not keeping Carlos in line."
Ruben's eyes flicked to John.
John, Ruben's godson, had built up some clout over the past couple of years. Ruben knew John had secretly gathered a crew and skimmed some cash, but he never thought John's son, Carlos, would mess with Adrian's fiancée.
Whether Adrian liked Alice or not, Carlos touching her was a slap in the face to the Howard family, and Ruben was beyond disappointed in John.
John felt the weight of the world on his shoulders. He knew Ruben's character.
When the previous head of the Howard family passed, Ruben, out of six brothers, snagged the top spot. Over thirty years, he turned the Howards into the wealthiest family around. His methods and skills were top-notch. Ruben's success in building the massive Howard Group was undeniable.
Even though Ruben had handed the reins of the Howard Group to his grandson Adrian, his prestige in the business world was still sky-high. One word from him could crush a small conglomerate. One look could make people tremble.
John was already sweating bullets. If he couldn't handle Ruben's pressure, how could Carlos? Carlos looked like a ghost, shaking as the video looped.
John heard the moaning in the video and felt doomed.
But in the living room, no one said a word.
John had zero confidence. This kind of disgrace to the Howard family made him feel like Carlos was just dead weight.
Then Carlos's phone rang.
He picked it up, and sweat instantly poured down his face. It was Alice calling.
That ringtone was one of Carlos's favorite songs.
But right now, it felt like a curse.
Carlos put the phone on the table, and everyone could see "Alice" flashing on the screen.
Adrian smirked, "Why not answer?"
Carlos wouldn't dare. It was like he was caught red-handed. He looked at John, pleading. John knelt and shuffled over, pressing the answer button.
John cursed Carlos in his mind for being useless, always dragging him down.
And Carlos, at that moment, hated Alice with a passion. 'Your call will be the death of me, Alice.'
