Chapter 601 Text Message
Alice clung to Adrian's shirt, saying, "Nah, I'm just gonna head back and chill. My leg's been like this since it healed. I'm used to it."
Adrian eyed Alice's dramatic act. "Alice, your leg's been treated forever, and it still hurts? Did the doc mess up? Want me to get a pro medical team to check it out again?"
Alice's leg was fine. She was just faking it to make Claire feel guilty. No way she could agree to a check-up; she'd be busted.
Alice waved her hands. "No need, I'll just go home and rest. It's cool, Adrian. Don't stress."
Adrian said, "Alright, I'll take you back."
"My servant's outside, and I got a driver. I'll head back myself." Alice just wanted to bail. She was scared, Adrian would ask more questions, and she'd be exposed if she stuck around.
Alice needed to go back and come up with a solid plan.
She quickly called Renee in, said a hasty goodbye to Claire, and had Renee push her wheelchair out of the Howard family home.
In the living room, Claire looked at Adrian. "You didn't keep Alice here. Why'd she leave?"
Adrian said, "Mom, you're still recovering. Don't worry too much. Just take care of yourself and rest."
Claire said, "I made a talisman and forgot to give it to Alice. Oh well, I'll give it to her next time. This one's for you." She pulled out a yellow talisman.
Adrian took it. "You're recovering, so don't move around too much."
"How can that be? I just want you to be healthy and have a smooth life, and for Alice to give our Howard family a baby soon."
Claire hadn't been feeling great lately. Adrian didn't want to stress her out more, so he didn't say much. He just stood up. "I'll be fine. I'll leave now and come back to see you tomorrow."
Adrian had just left.
Claire sighed and sat down.
Lori handed her a cup of coffee. Claire said, "He won't even stay for dinner, only cares about work. He has no clue about relationships."
Lori said, "Mrs. Howard, you can't rush these things."
"How can I not rush? At my age, I should be holding a grandkid. My friend already has grandkids." Talking about this, Claire felt really guilty. "If Alice hadn't saved me, she wouldn't have lost the baby. It was already eight months. I feel awful."
Lori remarked, "Mrs. Howard, it's not your fault."
A phone buzzed.
It was Adrian's phone, left on the sofa where he'd been sitting.
Claire smiled. "Adrian forgot his phone."
She walked over, picked up Adrian's phone, and glanced at it. A text had come in, marked from Natalie: [I have plans tonight and can't have dinner with you. How about you come to my place this weekend, and I'll make it up to you?]
Claire read the message by the couch, where she stood for a long time.
