Chapter 327 Blind Date
"Adrian, guess who I bumped into today?" Colby said, hopping into the car and calling Adrian.
"Who?" Adrian replied.
"I went to see Lester Wells and ran into Natalie and her mom. Man, Natalie's had it rough. Her dad and brother both passed away," Colby explained.
Adrian asked, "Why are you telling me about Natalie?"
Colby raised an eyebrow, stopping at a red light and putting on a song. "You said you didn't want to hear about her, but if I see her again..."
Adrian cut him off, "You're such a busybody."
Colby suggested, "If you're interested in Natalie, just go find her. She works at the Imperial Nightclub. How about tonight? I'll set up a hangout."
Adrian replied, "I have no time."
Colby shrugged. "Fine, I'll invite other friends. Raymond will come too."
Adrian asked, "Why him?"
Colby said, "He's Mr. William Newman's grandson. My family is working with Dominic Newman. I'll introduce you two properly sometime."
There was a brief silence on Adrian's end.
The light turned green, and Colby hit the gas. The roads near the cemetery were wide and usually empty except on holidays and weekends. Only a few buses passed by. The drive was smooth.
Colby kept his eyes on the road, confident Adrian would agree. He didn't hang up and hummed a tune.
After a few seconds, Adrian's voice came through. "We'll talk about it tonight." Then he hung up.
Colby smiled. He knew mentioning Natalie would get Adrian to come.
But what was it about Natalie that Adrian liked?
At 4:30 PM, at the Half Street Library.
Natalie was still in the white shirt and deep blue jeans she wore earlier. Her hair was down, giving her a fresh look. She hadn't dressed up. She smoothed her hair and looked at the young man across the table.
The man, two or three years older, wore black-framed glasses and had a gentle appearance.
"Hi, I'm James Hayes. Mrs. Harrison mentioned you," James said, adjusting his glasses and glancing back awkwardly.
Natalie didn't look back. She knew Sierra, Rosalie, and James's mom, Jasmine Hayes, were in the booth behind her.
Natalie smiled, "Hi, I'm Natalie Teeger."
James glanced at her, a bit embarrassed. "I've heard your name. It's a nice one. You seem kind and gentle."
Natalie said, "You're too kind."
James continued, "I work at NexGen Innovations Inc. I've been there two years and lead a project team."
Natalie hadn't spoken yet.
Jasmine's voice came from behind, loud enough for nearby seats to hear.
"My son is excellent. Top of his class from middle school to high school. In college, he got scholarships every semester. Now, he's a project team leader at NexGen Innovations Inc., a Howard Group subsidiary. He earns over ten thousand a month," Jasmine boasted.
Then Sierra chimed in, "James is outstanding. Rosalie, he's perfect for Natalie."
