Chapter 723 Discovered
Rachel strolled over, asking, "Hey, where's Adrian and my mom?"
Alice replied nervously, "In there."
Rachel was about to knock when the door swung open, and there was Adrian, staring right at Alice.
Alice felt a pang of guilt; she hadn't expected Rachel to show up while she was snooping. Lucky for her, Rachel didn't catch on.
Alice couldn't meet Adrian's eyes. She held up a tray. "I made some coffee for you downstairs. It's a special blend I snagged from Rosewood City."
Adrian's voice was steady. "So, you just got here, huh?"
Alice's face went pale. "Yeah."
Adrian studied her face, then turned to Claire. "Mom, I'll head back for work."
Claire, still in shock, just nodded. Alice brought over the coffee, but Claire wasn't feeling it. She just pursed her lips. "Alice, I'm kinda beat. Need to rest. Don't you have a shoot or something? Don't let us delay your work."
Alice said, "Aunt Claire, this kind of coffee is fairly tasty.. "
Claire looked at Alice's sweet and obedient act, finding it hard to believe she could be so sneaky.
Adrian must've been wrong.
After Alice left, Rachel walked into the study.
Seeing Claire on the sofa, rubbing her temples, Rachel walked over and started massaging her shoulders. "Mom, what's up? Is it because of Alice?"
"Why do you think it's Alice?" Claire sighed, trying to push the thought away.
"How could it not be Alice? You always think she's so great. How's she even good enough for Adrian?" Rachel never liked Alice, especially after Alice gave her some bad advice. Rachel followed it, and Jamie still ignored her.
This past year, Jamie had been dodging Rachel even more.
Since that night, Rachel barely saw Jamie. No way she could like Alice.
Claire said, "Alice is great, and she's gonna be your sister-in-law. You can't talk like that in front of her."
Rachel pouted. "What's so great about Alice?"
Claire knew Rachel never really liked Alice. She used to think it was just Rachel throwing her tantrum. Now, thinking about what Adrian had just said, Claire asked, "Rachel, why don't you like Alice? What kind of person do you think she is? What's your take on her?"
Rachel said, "If I tell you, you can't get mad."
"Alright, when have I ever gotten mad at you?" Claire smiled.
Rachel started massaging Claire's legs. "Alice comes off like she's from some new money family, always showing off, dressing flashy with no taste. She's got bad manners, too. I saw her once at a jewelry store, yelling at a salesgirl just 'cause another customer reserved a set of jewelry she wanted. She threw the Howard Family name around to pressure the salesgirl, and it ended up with the manager stepping in."
