Chapter 862 The Inescapable Shadow
"Are you sure?" Amanda asked.
"Of course," Rebecca replied.
"This is Alice's second miscarriage, right? If it didn't happen because of some external force, then it must be a result of her own actions. I mean she is physically incapable of carrying a pregnancy. Do you think she's not a good fit for the Howard family? The last baby was over nine months, almost due, and then it was gone." Amanda was there when the chandelier fell. She had been invited to Claire's charity dinner.
Claire didn't hold a charity dinner this year because she couldn't get over the shadow of that incident.
Chloe came home with Rachel, and they had bought a ton of stuff while shopping. As soon as Chloe got back, she shouted, "Mom, look what I got for you. You'll love it. Rachel and I picked it out together."
Hearing Chloe's voice, Amanda said to Rebecca, "Chloe's here. Let's talk later."
Rachel saw Amanda, stood up with a smile, and politely said, "Aunt Amanda."
Amanda Robinson was the daughter of the richest family in Silver Lake City.
She had known Claire since middle school, and the Robinson family and the Murphy family had a long-standing and deep friendship. Claire had a gentle and unassuming personality and often went to church to pray and donate with Amanda. Claire, with her gentle nature, had average judgment. The first glance told Amanda that she wouldn't take a liking to Alice and Alice was full of calculation, especially when Amanda saw Alice surrounded by other wealthy daughters and accepting their gifts one by one.
No matter how well she disguised herself, Alice still seemed a bit mercenary at that moment.
After all, a true socialite wouldn't care about such small gifts. Alice was a bit too greedy.
"You're here. Have a seat. I knew Chloe went out this morning to find you," Amanda said jauntily.
Amanda was close to Claire, so Chloe and Rachel grew up together. Rebecca and Adrian also knew each other since childhood.
If Adrian hadn't been so distant and Rebecca so strong-willed, Amanda and Claire would have really wanted to match Adrian and Rebecca together.
Rachel smiled. "Aunt Amanda, try on the necklace Chloe bought for you."
Amanda was never short of pearl necklaces, but since Chloe bought it, Amanda naturally put it on with a smile. She looked at herself in the mirror. "So good."
Although it was a pearl necklace, it was made of pink pearls, each one round and smooth, complementing Amanda's complexion.
Amanda remembered what Rebecca said on the phone and asked, "Rachel, do you know how Alice is doing? Has she been discharged?"
At Amanda's sudden mention of Alice, Rachel was stunned. "She should be discharged by now."
Chloe was also surprised, wondering why Amanda suddenly brought up Alice, which had nothing to do with their conversation.
Amanda said, "Claire just called me and asked me to leave an invitation for Alice. It's all Rebecca's fault for forgetting such things. I don't even know if Alice has been discharged. Can she attend the debutante ball in her condition?"
Although Amanda said Rebecca forgot to give Alice the invitation to the debutante ball, Rachel knew that Alice had clearly begged Claire for it. She was immediately blushed with embarrassment and wondered how Alice had the nerve to have the cheek to turn to Claire.
