Chapter 912 Taking on the Mission in Times of Crisis
In the evening, Matthew and Bronte invited Natalie out for dinner.
They ended up in a private room at a nice restaurant.
Halfway through the meal, Matthew asked, "Natalie, when's your flight?"
"Tomorrow morning at 10," she replied.
Matthew bit his lip, glanced at Bronte, and said, "Natalie, Ms. Langley and I really hope you'll consider playing Kaia."
That was Azalea's role, the lead female part.
Natalie was caught off guard. She hadn't expected them to bring this up.
She'd read the script before; it was a great story.
Natalie hesitated. She knew Azalea was in the hospital after a car accident, leaving the lead role open. Heather had mentioned that Matthew and Bronte had already had several meetings about it. Every day of halted filming meant a million-dollar loss, and no one could afford that. If they didn't find a new lead soon, investors would start pulling out.
Natalie had other projects lined up. She was planning to join a new production after "The Nameless Road" wrapped up.
Matthew said, "I know this is sudden. Kaia and Gia are basically twin sisters, so they look alike. But Gia is calm and composed, while Kaia is lively and spirited. Gia only appears in Kaia's memories, so the role isn't huge. But if the same actress played both, it would be better. We thought about this initially, but Azalea didn't agree, so we brought you in as a guest star. Your look is perfect for the lead role. Natalie, Ms. Langley and I really hope you'll consider it. I spent three years writing this script. It's my first shot at modern fantasy with suspense and humor. It's a new venture for me."
Matthew was very sincere.
Natalie nodded, "I'll give you an answer by 8 AM tomorrow."
Bronte said, "Alright."
After dinner, back at the hotel, Natalie talked it over with Heather.
They reviewed the script again and analyzed Kaia's character. Since it was Matthew's original script, only he and the internal crew knew if she was right for it. The general public and fans of the original novel wouldn't know or oppose it.
Natalie re-read the detailed script.
It was clear that Azalea wasn't the best fit for the lead role during the initial auditions.
Heather said tentatively, "I think you should take it. The script is great, and the lead character suits you. Playing two roles is a challenge. Even though there are suspense elements, it's mostly modern fantasy, a genre we haven't explored yet. And..." Heather paused, "Matthew's team for this movie is top-notch. Building connections with people like Matthew is crucial if you want to advance."
Natalie agreed with Heather. After weighing everything, she decided to take the role and had Heather start preparing.
Early the next morning, Natalie gave her answer to Matthew.
Matthew's voice was excited, "Natalie, thank you so much!"
This was the second time Natalie and Matthew were working together.
Their first collaboration had been great, and this time, they both had high hopes for the film.
Natalie was no longer the newcomer she once had been; she was now a rising box office star.
