Chapter 186 Guilty Conscience
She said while looking at Natalie, genuinely afraid that Adrian might catch on, especially since they had entered one after the other. Natalie's outfit was a bit tight on her, and even though they looked quite alike, Alice was still anxious. Particularly because Natalie now had leverage over her and Carlos. Alice's heart was in turmoil.
Feigning ignorance, Natalie said, "Ms. Cullen, I'm free."
Daniel stood in front of Natalie. "Ms. Cullen, Natalie is my classmate. You don't need to worry about her."
Alice forced a stiff smile, not expecting Daniel to argue with her in front of so many people just to defend a maid.
Adrian walked in, his gaze falling on Natalie. She was wearing a light pink dress that suited her well. At that moment, a faint blush adorned her cheeks as she stood behind Daniel. Adrian found the scene rather displeasing.
Seeing Adrian look at Natalie, Alice quickly walked up to him and took his arm. "Adrian, the baby just kicked me."
Adrian responded gently, "So naughty."
"Adrian."
Joe was helping Ruben down the stairs, and Melissa quickly walked over. "Dad."
Ruben nodded, his gaze scanning Natalie's face and pausing slightly. His murky eyes squinted, and Natalie immediately felt a sense of pressure. Daniel said, "Grandpa, this is my classmate, Natalie."
Only then did Ruben's gaze slowly move away. "Let's eat."
In the dining room.
Natalie sat next to Daniel, feeling immense pressure, but Alice was the one that was under even more pressure. Every time Adrian's gaze lingered on Natalie's face for even a second, Alice feared he would notice something. So she would claim she had no appetite, or that the baby was moving, or ask Adrian to pass her some food, all to divert his attention.
However, the more she tried, the more suspicious she seemed.
Adrian's keen gaze fell on Alice's face.
"If you're not feeling well, I'll have the family doctor come over and check on you."
Upon hearing that Alice was unwell, Claire sounded a bit anxious. "Alice, what's wrong?"
Everyone's attention was now on Alice.
After all, Alice was pregnant, which should not be taken lightly.
Alice knew she was acting a bit too nervous. "No, it's just a natural reaction to pregnancy, I don't have much of an appetite."
Claire smiled. "That's normal. I've already asked the maid to prepare some light food for you. Here, have a bowl of soup first."
"Thank you."
Ruben smiled. "Take good care of yourself. If you need anything, just tell Adrian."
Alice's face lit up with a sweet smile. "Got it, Grandpa." Looking at Adrian's profile, Alice felt suffocated. Adrian was exceptionally handsome. In Vachilit, there were many women eager to pursue him.
Rachel snorted coldly and muttered something about Alice.
Natalie lowered her eyes, eating the food on her plate.
Suddenly, a pair of hands holding a fork and knife placed a piece of grilled ribs on her plate. She looked up and saw Daniel's handsome smile. "Try Mia's cooking. Every time I come here, I always make sure to eat extra. The taste is unique, different from any restaurant."
Mia Cook, who was serving soup to Ruben, smiled and said, "I'm glad you like it. Miss, why don’t you try some grilled ribs, it is my specialty."
Natalie took a bite. "Delicious, Mia. Can you teach me how to make it?"
"You like cooking, too? Sure, I’ll teach you after dinner."
